those saying there's no firewire may be wrong. look at the port holes, theres' dvi, ethernet, what looks like two usb ports, plus what i'm assuming is a firewire 800 port. after that are the mic and headphone ports plus the little oval port found on macbooks.
you can connect a firewire 400 device to an 800 port with a cable from belkin. so maybe firewire is still there and apple's dropping the 400 to streamline manufacturing between the different macbook models by having one standard for all models.

or it could just be a small rectangular hole for no apparent reason

maybe the one piece thing was speculation. nail manufacturers can make screws too.

It's the front for their new "Brick" factory!! :p

What's so special about the trackpad? If you imagine the buttons there, it doesn't look bigger than the current ones.

yeah it lines up exactly the same. Almost all the way to the left of the space bar, and to the right half way through the command..

NOT BIGGER

good point. so maybe we could be seeing firewire 1600 or 3200?

You forgot power... That first one on the left is magsafe. Then ethernet, 2usb, then the unknown square.. probably some small form DVI.

While I hope the announcement is soon and the products revolutionary, Apple's last few products have failed to excite - they are erring on the cautious side with a more emphasis on price than value.

I'm not sure that I agree - if you plot the evolution of their machines over the past 8-9 years, there's been a steady improvement of reliability, design refinement, and price. They'll always be priced higher than the competition, due to much smaller volumes, and higher design cost of their hardware, but their price points necessarily need to follow the competition's to an extent, lest the gap grow too high. They know that people will pay a premium, but that premium needs to be relatively constant, relative to the competition, or people will leave.

And the innovation you're talking about seems to come in waves - and we might be on the cusp of another wave, given what we're seeing and hearing. Whether it's going to be 'make-your-head-spin-around-with-novelty', or just a subtle but profound improvement in some aspect of the product, something's bound to be another evolutionary leap for the product line.

Thing is, they've been setting the bar for a while now on how to best design consumer computers & electronics. When they dove back into the fray in the late 90s, beating the competition at the design game was ridiculously easy, and afforded them a lot of freedom to experiment, and test the waters culturally (because good design is always sensitive to the cultural environment). Competitors have studied Apple and learned, and now their design wins and innovation need to be more calculated. That doesn't mean that they'll be any less impactful. You can bet your pants that with the amount of attention Apple pays to the way that people actually USE their products, any new features that they introduce will probably fall closer to "wow - how did i live without that", than "holy-crap that's melting my face it's so exciting".

I'd almost chalk this up to faulty translation... Haha, but it is kind of funny, plants, nails, and pipes? Put together with a brick, sounds like a weird way to build a greenhouse or a Home Depot, not a computer. Just more to chew on, I suppose! :D

The current magsafe is more rectangular than square. Maybe it has inductive power. I doubt it, but maybe.

I hope this is true, but you're forgetting one connection: power. The far left port shown could be a mini-DVI (it does look a little chunky for the magsafe), but then there would need to be another port to the left of the photo for the power connection, which is certainly possible. That photo definitely doesn't show the entire depth of the notebook.

Yes i agree, you cant really rely on google translator.

it does make for an interesting story though! :D

i wasn't aware that firewire 3200 or USB3 were standardized yet - though i would really like to see it. kindof like how the newer macs shipped with 802.11n before it became widely used.

only FW1600 and 3200 are standardized. usb 3.0 is still too far off in the distance to be able to even consider including it in this macbook.

Firewire is definitely gone. But everything else is there.
Or the mini dvi is gone instead of the firewire.

In the shot that focuses on the ports, the magsafe is slightly cut-off. Look in the optical drive slot one and you can see all the ports.

The awkward port next to the USB ports is a display port (the thus-nicknamed "Macro-DVI"), identical to the leaked MBP picture. There's no firewire port.
