I'm fairly certain we wont see these on the 14th. Case redesigns like these deserve their own event, and Apple has made no mention of an event for the 14th yet when usually they announce their events one week in advance.

I remember the Alum iMac event was announced one week in advance... but then again people weren't as antsy in their pantsys for an iMac redesign as they are for these MacBook redesigns and maybe Apple really wants to surprise us on the 14th?? AGHHH I don't know what to think.!

I'm just hoping we get these before November.

Firewire is definitely gone. But everything else is there.
Or the mini dvi is gone instead of the firewire.

Anyone else notice how the two USB ports on the next generation MacBook look huge compared to the mini-DVI and Ethernet ports?

it looks like mini dvi but it's in a bad spot to me. When you're plugged in to a monitor you want that mini dvi > dvi dongle + dvi cable way in the back out of the way. Just like all the current cases.

I'd love to have a 12inch macbook. Bring back the six year old powerbook style.

I had an idea

What if this case is NOT for the revised macbook, but the macbook air? The top case is nearly identical, but side ports have been added, sans firewire (god I read too much engadget).

There isn't enough to have an event. "Look! they are aluminum!" can't really fill an hour keynote and an hour or two of press hands on.

I don't know if I'm sold on that translation yet. There could be another port to the left, outside of the photo. I would say what you labeled as mini-DVI is too small to be a mini-DVI. Look at the current MB. the mini-DVI is much taller than the USB slots, whereas in this new photo what you label as mini-DVI is actually shorter than the USB connections. Size-wise it would make more sense for that to be some kind of firewire connection (obviously not 400). What you have labeled as the power port could be a mini-DVI and then the magsafe port is off the photo to the left. There's still more to that we can't see. By the way, this would make much more sense, physically. Having the magsafe and then mini-DVI or whatever they use for external monitor connections (like the current designs) are better placed in the back because they're not going to be used when you're on the go.

I could see Apple getting rid of FW in their lower end models, but there's no way they get rid of it completely. Video transfer is usually done through firewire, so at the very least, the higher end notebooks will have firewire. And if they don't, hopefully they'll still have the expresscard slot, since they make firewire adapters for those.

Edit: Looking at the photo from the other end, you can clearly see that there are only 5 ports (not counting headphone and mic), so we're obviously missing one since the current MB has 6. There has to be a magsafe and some kind of display output port, so that leaves three ports. Probably 2 USB and an ethernet, no firewire. But I'd gladly trade a USB or the ethernet for a firewire. You can always get a USB/ethernet adater.

That video out hole is the same spot it was back on the G4 iBooks, sandwiched between the headphone jack and the USB port(s).

what would happen to the world if these were fake and there is no event

surely a one day warning is enough for an event. :D

anyone for a new iMac? i like the look of this (a mock-up from gizmodo a while ago if you havent seen it)

now it's time to hope for the slim chance that the usb ports are actually usb 3.0 so they can make up for losing firewire

Anyone else notice that the hand in the photo of the top of the case appears to be over top of something, as if to hide it or something? Looks like there is something under the hand. I'm pretty sure that they could have taken a picture of it without holding it like that. A measurement help, perhaps? I guess it's bugging me, why is that hand there?

i was referring to the picture of the new photos with the current MB photos, the one he said could have been ethernet, is to rectangular.

I realize that, and what I'm saying is that the hole in the newly leaked photo appears to have the same width to height ratio and the framing around the ethernet port on my G4 iBook....
