This really is making me going nuts,

Convex home button? HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!.... i dont want to get siri activated everytime i sit down coz the button is outside the front panel and with pressure can be hit unintentionally...

New home button image? at least i could imagine a more rounded icon in home button, coz now the ios 7 icons are more rounded, But... anything else could look a bit drastic to the elegance with the iphone

No megapixel camera upgrade? what are this asians thinking when launching this rumors, the camera must be upgraded to at least 12 mpx to reach the competition, WITH the low light improvement and dual led flash...

New gold color? i agree with the champaigne color someone talk about here, coz a real gold gold color will look awful

Lets hope this insane rumours that are running ultimately all are fake :C coz i will be really sad and i will start to look for another phone, im getting pissed with all this :C

I guess you missed the part about the home button being a sensor touch thumbprint or fingerprint reader.. random pressure wouldn't activate it.

Megapixels aren't everything. Dual flash and a wider aperture are both advancements.

Except if wider aperture is accompanied by a wider angle lens (which is usually the case in compact cameras). Most compact camera lenses are coming with wider apertures, wider angles and more distortions to be corrected via software. That is, the lenses are usually f/2 at the very center of the subject, but decreases towards the corners with noticeable vignette.

I don't want taking pictures of my feet while pointing the camera to a landscape. We need more "normal" (e.g. 40-50mm equiv.) focal distances than ultrawide, ultradistorted, ultravignetted ones. It's like taking instagram pictures out of the box because of the low quality optics. But who cares? It's f/2 - at least in the frame's most centered megapixel.

I actually think there is a market for a gold or champagne phone; it's very cristal-ish.

But I really don't care much as I used to about the color of my phone because I have to buy a cover for my phone. My phone would be thrashed without a lifeproof cover because I do all kinds of activities where I can easily drop my phone or get it dirty: fishing, biking, camping, running, etc

The gold color is just... tacky.

My gold colour iPod looks beautiful. Got a bright red one as well (Product Red, but bought that model because of the colour). All depends on how it is made. And if they are sold in three (or more colours), you pick the colour you like. And let others buy the colour _they_ like.

so full of useless features

I couldn't agree more. I love my S4, but the first 5 minutes of taking it out of the box was spent turning off all the rubbish like Smart Stay, S Health, Smart Scroll, S Beam, Air View, Air Gesture, Smart Pause etc. etc.

Can't wait for all of the people who actually know about photography to come and rip you apart

You don't actually have to know _that_ much about photography. I thought it was common knowledge by now that cameras add megapixels only for the clueless "bigger number = better" crowd. Which unfortunately makes it very difficult nowadays to get a decent quality cheap camera, because the clueless crowd is the majority

I don't recall any apple products in history being in gold color.

(Looking at my iPod) You are wrong.

How do you know what he can and can't recall?

I think what you meant to say was "Whilst you may not have seen a gold Apple product before, they do exist - I have a gold iPod."

And politeness is restored.

But still cannot compete with Nokia 41MP Lumia 1020, that is a real nice camera.

I agree. I haven't seen it in action, but I like the principal that is it 40-some megapixels, but still generates 7-8 MP images, making each of those final pixels more accurate.

If you want more mega-pixels, do it intelligently. The rest might be crap, though... But I reserve judgment if I ever see a Windows Phone

Tim probably already thinks its stupid that people feel they have to buy each version of the iPhone. They make the phones to last so you don't have to buy a new one every year.

I think this is actually what is partly hurting Apple currently. Their products have grown to such high quality in build and performance that even a two year cycle does not seem necessary anymore.

My iPad 3 is still blazing along and able to run all apps that are available, and I kept my iPhone 4 for a lot longer than I thought I would.

1. Still an 8MP camera? - possible, but public perception alone is enough of a reason to up it that least 10.

2. Square symbol gone form home button? - sorta makes sense if a fingerprint scanner is included

3. Called the iphone 5S? Very possible but if it has even a few of the rumoured improvements, calling it the iphone 6 would make it seem like a "considerable" upgrade. I think they'll scrap numbers altogether though.

4. Gold colour version? - utterly ludicrous. It would look tacky and will never happen.

Verdict: I call bull as well.

Gold? I'm calling BS on this rumor. Seems a tad ostentatious. Even for Apple. Also only 8 megapixels? No way. First off, the strong rumor for the last year has been 12 or 13 megapixels. And I firmly believe this to be true. The cheaper 5C iphone will get the 8 megapixel camera from the iphone 5 and the iphone 5S will get the 12 or 13 megapixel camera.

There ain't no way Apple is gonna lose ground or just tread water on the camera in their flagship iphone model. Especially since they aren't, from the looks of it going to release a larger iphone this year. Apple is losing ground to Samsung. If they plan on keeping the iphone 5S the same size, and not release a larger screen iphone until late 2014, you better believe they are gonna pack the 5S with as MUCH goodies as they can to keep people interested for another year.

I love Apple, but the consumers seem to want a larger screen smartphone, and Samsung is really leaving Apple in the dust in this regard. I know Apple usually bides its time, and then comes out with a better version of something...but they sure are taking their sweet time regarding the larger screen iphone.

He's right. I've been shooting with a 12 mp camera (canon eos 5d mark i) for years and made the sharpest shots on a A0 compared to cameras with even a higher pixel number. But the most difference made the lens: a high quality and complex lens with special antireflection layers and UD glass elements is worth every penny. Second is the sensor with high sensitivity (high dynamic range and good low light behaviour) and third a good processor to does transfer the raw image data into a beautiful jpg (or other formats).

As long as the lens isn't improved (in sharpness, resolution it can deliver), a bigger pixelcount on the same sized sensor isn't improving anything...

Not necessarily.
Yes they sell less if you would buy every year a new product ... in short term.

BUT if you buy an expensive phone and can use it for several years, you will most probably buy an iphone again. Not so with android. You will more likely switch between companies here.

Second ... if you use your phone more, you will have more apps, get more accustomed to the way everything works and will most likely less change.

So in short term sales they probably loose with good quality.
In long term sales they win.
And through the ecosystem they will earn additional money.

So for apple it is really the best to have long lasting products, not so for other companies, but for apple it makes perfect sense.
Good for the customer

That's why I hate when rumor sites post hardware mockups. They never look as good as the finished product. With iOS 7's color scheme does anyone really believe they'd release a phone that looks like the gold one in this mockup? Seriously?!?

No way apple releases a gold phone. It just doesn't make any sense at all. If anything, the gold color is some type of undercoating that helps with the final anodizing.

If apple releases a gold phone, they will have officially "jumped the shark".

I, and many other people don't want a bigger phone. I have a 7" tablet. I don't need a 5" freaking phone in my pocket. Or the monstrosity that is the Note. Might be alright for girls with handbags but no good in a pair of jeans / suit pocket.

the myth that more megapixels produces better pictures is nuts. some of the 12mp cameras are awful. It' more about the WAY the CCD captures, the compresssion used and even more about the Lens used. In fact the only way to dramatically increase quality is to use a big lens like the Pureview Nokias or normal compact camera.

And unless I can control the captured image size/res I don't want anything bigger than a 8mp. that's 3456 x 2304 - more than enough to print on A4! 12mp is 2x the storage space.

As for the colour. it won't look like those horrible renderings it will be a lot more subtle like the 'spare parts' - not that I would buy one. I love the black but took it back as it needed to be kept in a case to stop any damage... And why would you want to make your phone bigger!

8 megapixels...still? 3 years and no advancement in whats probably one of iPhones most used features?

Please explain why you need more megapixels. How big are you making your pictures that you need over 8 megapixels. That is enough megapixels to make a crisp poster 32" x 42". So unless you are making something bigger more megapixels won't due anything to improve the camera. However with this proposes lens change everyone would see a noticeable difference in picture quality.

Yeah it's hard to fit a full frame sensor in the iPhone, but if they could, well the quality would be amazing, but then everyone would whinge about the very low depth of field that a full frame sensor has.

The tiny ones in mobiles have a very deep depth of field and that makes them useful too. Packing more pixels in the same size sensor never goes down well with those who know about cameras, and is more a marketing ploy than real quality improvement. The wider aperature will help in low light situations, and is a real image improvement as it means less amplification is needed internally (and that has a large noise issue) to get a useable image in low light situations.

For quick snaps any time I'll use the iPhone, for decent pics I'll use the D7000, but if I want quality, I'll grab the D800 and good glass anyday.

I like to take my photos 10x farther away than would be necessary, then crop them to hell.
