No one is talking about iLife 11? I could see getting rid of iDVD. Maybe include is as an optional download like they did with the old iMovie (no, there won't be a new iDVD, just the old one as an optional download). A revamped iWeb is a must. I hope they include some prosumer features for at least editing html titles, tags, body, etc. Like RapidWeaver. No, I don't expect it to be as great as RapidWeaver or even offer close to all of the feature currently available in RW, but take some hints from that great piece of software. There will probably be a new app. It will probably be an app offering an easy and quick way for consumers to create iPhone/iPad Apps. Of course it will be extremely basic and lacking many pro features, but it would further development and customization for users and their "i" devices. I assume all of the iLife 11 apps will be completely rewritten for 64-bit Snow Leopard. Why isn't Final Cut Studio? Please release an update for that soon to utilize 64-bit. Anyway, it will be interesting to see the event. There has to be more than just an iPod refresh.

Apple should just buy RapidWeaver and integrate it into iWeb.
As for the iDVD download that would be a 2GB download and not everyone has a 10Mb connection (3Mb Here)
As for FCP they need to write it as a 64Bit App

An iPod touch with 3G would suit my needs perfectly. The iPad is just a bit too big and I have no need of an iPhone. I would like all over connectivity though for mapping purposes. A 7 inch iPad/iPod touch would probably be the sweet spot for me too.

I wonder if there will be any break on iLife '11 for people who buy Macs now with iLife '09. Not a big deal. It's not like it's FCS.

I take it you are of the opinion that the Macbook is eating into the sales of macbook pro's then? After all, it's putting a downward pressure on the Macbook pro
The difference between a MBP and a MacBook is clearly evident on the hardware level (unibody AL case, FW800, better display, thinner case) even for the 13" model. And the price difference (after equalising with third-party RAM) is only $100 or 7%.
Pay 7% more and get a number of hardware benefits is a reasonable price structure.

Pay 60% more to get the Phone app is a much harder sell.
$900 unlocked 32 GB iPhone vs. $550 iPod touch 3G ($400 iPod touch + $150 3G upgrade as with the iPad).

I might update my iPod collection if the upcoming event gives us some good iPods. Something to replace my Shuffle and a nice 128gb iPod touch to replace my 80gb 5G. This might be an expensive month :D.

Let's be fair here, how much is an unlocked iPhone 4? £500 over here. Not every teenager's parents will buy one of those for chrimbo, nor will they enter a contract for £30 per month for their kids.

If the 3g iTouch comes in around £300 then they will sell like hotcakes to kids and those that can't afford a contract or to buy an unlocked iPhone.

If the new iPod does have a 3G radio then I would hope it has GPS as well.

Otherwise, getting an iPhone4, putting a data SIM in it and manually changing the APN, is certainly a viable option. Plus there are plenty of monthly data plans for the iPad that are non-renewing. They are pay as you go.

Or import an iPhone 4 from another country and sticking in a prepaid sim.

If you buy a Mac the day of a new version of iLife comes out you can get the new version for $19.95
except in your case I don't think you will qualify

so as long as the price difference is small, it doesn't matter? So it would be fine for there to be 3g iTouch and iPhone if it were to just have $100 of a difference?

Sorry dude, I totally disagree with you. There will always be a market for people that want an iTouch with data, but don't want an iPhone. They will never buy an iPhone due to contract/unlocked prices.

It's a viable option if you can afford it. Not everyone can.

Gone are the iPod Shuffle (because the Nano replaced it,) the confused iPod Nano (because the Touch picked up what the Nano dropped,) and iPod Classic (because now the Touch has as much memory as it did.)

Maybe, but no one is sure that Apple is getting rid of the Shuffle, yet. There are no cases popping up, but the Shuffle needs no case.
Apple needs a sub-$50 mp3 device, and the Shuffles can be there with ease.
Will Apple go sub-$50? Sept. 1st will tell.

The sub-Nano/mini/shuffle device coming up seems odd for one reason, to me.
You problem with the control isn't a problem if you study how responsive the iPT is.
The problem is the video--video is a further income for Apple. Dropping video would be odd, but a 3cm video player is ridiculous.

I'd be surprised if they drop the Classic this year.
Sure, they could, but I feel it will be dropped next year when memory is truly cheaper and larger than the hard drives.

So if the new touch has 3G, 5mp camera, video, and GPS i'll be selling my iphone 4, obviously it won't though.

The itouch 3g might seem like a good option in US, but in Australia you can get month to month iphones without being locked in. And i'm fairly sure there are a couple of other countries that do that too. Although in saying that, the iphone is extremely expensive here.

A couple thoughts on the iPod Touch 3g issue --

1. They already have this on the iPad. So this would just be a mini version of that.

2. If they don't make a portable 3g device like this, someone else will. With Skype and similar applications, if you have Internet you also have a phone.

3. If Apple wants to be a leader, they can't say "no, that product is too good, so we better not offer it."

4. That said, I do wonder, if they offer the Touch 3g, how they make the pitch that the iPhone is worth the extra money.

How come no one mention iTunes 10 or iTunes X? Apple issues new iTunes version every year around the same time as the music event.

You could have said it more quickly by quoting my post a few posts above yours... :)

I read through the first page and didn't see any ideas of mixing in touch sensitive sides / back rather than the touch sensitive screen so I figured I probably had something new to say.

As I was writing the ideas on the Nano the fact that the Shuffle and Classic would be out came to me and the post went on a lot longer than intended.

This is all very interesting and exciting. It's making me rethink my phone usage.

The only thing I know, however, is to wait for the announcement This is Apple and you know even if the 3G Touch comes, the first few versions will be missing something key that we'll all want.

IF it has 3G then it is a certainty that it will have GPS. It's part of the 3G chip set!

It would be easy for apple to add 3G to the Touch if they wanted to. They may also still plan a 7 inch iPad. That would make for a nice spread that would pretty much own the tablet territory and may provide the motivation and reason to do that. Putting 3G in the Touch may not make sense to some with narrow thinking but if you look at the big picture where Apple wants to own the tablet market it makes perfect sense.

Oh, I didn´t mention the first thing about touch sensitive sides etc. .. My post was just about the fact that I think the Shuffle and Classic will be replaced by the Nano (small, they should call it the Pico) and iPod Touch respectively.

I guess everyone here seems to forget that the iPhone is in fact a phone. What are you gonna do, use Skype as a replacement? Sure...
