Why would I deactivate them if I was assured that an iPod Touch 3G would never happen? I have them activated now because there is no 3G iPod Touch and an iPad is too big.

If AT&T has you on the hook for 3 iPhone contracts now, why would they ever want to give you iPad style data on an iPhone style device?

I think that AT&T would actually appreciate having an increased number of customers with data plans overall. Sure they may lose some people with iPhones, but it'll probably be more than balanced out by new uptake of iPod touch 3g owners.

Remember when that AT&T person said that most iPads would be wifi only? Remember when AT&T abolished the unlimited 3G for $29.99 for iPad? Somehow I doubt that the telecoms want more data hungry devices and users on their network that aren't roped into expensive contracts.

They are all just for my use. I used 12GB of data on one and 7GB of data on another last month alone.

What? This makes absolutely no sense. What the hell are you doing on this phone?

Besides, you could kinda use Wi-Fi every once in a while.

Can I ask how you possibly even consume 19gb of data ON A PHONE?!!! Its kind of impressive in a way. Has AT&T sent you any warnings?

Why would they send me a warning? Unlimited on AT&T is truly unlimited. I've been using an average of 12GB on my main phone for over a year. I'll use about 500MB sometimes in one day just using my XM radio app.

I tried downloading a 4GB HD movie a few weeks ago just to see if it would be successful but it failed at just below 1GB. :)

I think a 3G Ipod is at least 1-2 years away. I think apple would want to develop a significant VOIP service before introducing a 3g. I think Facetime will eventually turn into that VOIP service in a couple of years.

Yes. Why not? I only need a cell phone for occasional use. I don't use one for my work.

$100/month is outrageous. Skype and Wifi are out there, and if Apple doesn't want to make it available for a lower price, someone else will.

While you may not use your phone very often, others do. How else am I to have a social life when my friends live scattered across the city? Communication is a habitual part of my life, sanctioned through my phone. Skype is great and all, but it's far too complicated for daily phone calls.

But if it works for you, by all means!

The iPod touch came out because not everyone could afford or want an iPhone with a data plan. Why would Apple make a 3G iPod touch? That'd be like going back to the original iPhone before the touch came out.

Can't wait to see what the small-screened thing is going to be.

iWatch??

If they're going to make an ipod that small, why not put two straps on it and call it "The iWatch"? Give it 4 aps: Clock, Itunes, Ical, and Contacts.

Why can't they have the ipod touch?

Is there something about it that makes it and its owners somehow unworthy of a constant internet connection?

apparently...

I don't understand why some people are so offended (not you obviously but others) with a 3g ipod touch. I assume most are current iphone owners who can't stand the thought of other people getting their benefits without having to pay an outrageous monthly bill?

It has been stated many times that the iphone is not very good as a PHONE. I and I know many others will not get an iphone because we need a reliable phone and can't compromise on this function but would also like to have smartphone like capabilities and the app store. I have friends who have an ipod touch and while they like it they agree that much of its value is lost because you need wifi (which contrary to popular belief is NOT everywhere. seriously I live in boston and I have to think about where I can get free wifi, I don't know what some of you are smoking).

I would buy a 3g ipod touch in a heartbeat. It would be my ideal device but of course we'll just have to wait until sept 1st and see what apple rolls out. Maybe they'll have it maybe they won't. No need for everyone to get all worked up until then I suppose...

The problem with phones is the limited market. The great thing about the iPod is there is no contract, no subscription or anything ontop of the original cost and you can use it to it's fullest no matter what country you're currently in.

Maybe what they're planning is something like the iPad with the option to buy a months worth of a mobile data connection. Because, personally, I'd absolutely love that for when I'm on the road. An iPhone without a subscription or voice calling? I'll be the first in line!

They can have the iPod touch all they want. Except the iPod Touch will have its limitations. That's where you go to the iPhone for.

why not the watch straps as an accessory and also most imp. add nike+ support and a heart monitor

Ok, so you saying from a business standpoint, it might not make sense for 3G due to cannibalization of the iphone. That's fine, you should have just said it that way in the first place. ;)

If the iPhone isn't good, then get a different phone. There are plenty of other reliable smartphones. This where Att and apple fans/customers delusional. You think an apple product is your only option. The iPod touch is not the iPhone.

And if you think that iPod touch is gonna get 128 gb AND 3g AND get rid of the classic then you are clueless and expect disappointment.

If 3g iPod touch comes to life, so help me God that the new iPod Nano (touchscreen or w/e) takes over the bestselling iPod by adding capacity just for the sake of unforgiven spoiled runts that want 3g on every damn device.

How come no one mention iTunes 10 or iTunes X? Apple issues new iTunes version every year around the same time as the music event.

I guess everyone's forgotten the rumors about iTunes getting a social media web-interface. That might be what the Apple data center is for.

EDIT: or at least some kind of social media integration.

Do you really expect an iPod touch with 3G/GPS along with a decent amount of storage, two cameras, and a retina display to be significantly cheaper than an unlocked iPhone 4?

I do think that there is a market for such a device, particularly in countries where there are no factory unlocked iPhones. It's also not going to be significantly cheaper than an iPhone.

Well, the iPod Touch with 3G would have to be cheaper than iPad with 3G, which is about as expensive as unlocked iPhone 4 (in UK for example). Also if there's going to be cheaper 7" iPad then the iPod Touch would have to be even cheaper than that.

If that really is the new ipod nano, I imagine it's going to be really difficult to use , given the, in my opinion, way to small screen... I will be very disappointed if this actually is the new nano.

I have an iPhone and have no prob. w/ them releasing an iPod Touch w/ 3G the more connected the device the better if you can afford it, if people can pay the extra price for the chip and be happy of having 1/2 the memory than now (since the 3G chip would take one of the slots) and pay even more that's their decision... but, iPod Touch owner that never used 3G have to know that using anything on 3G drains the battery way faster than in wifi and that if you want to use any VOIP like Skype, GV (soon no mins needed) to replace a phone that every time you call or answer the call you can actually see the battery % go down while talking w/ your own eyes and the battery will not last you more than 4hrs of use ...

Exactly what I think. For me it makes perfectly sense to bring a 3g iPod touch when considering the success of the 3g iPad. I love the wi-fi capability of my touch, but it is limited to hot spots. To have the internet on the go (like with the iPhone) would be awesome. Although I have to admit that I thought the opposite regarding 3g on the touch some months ago.

I like the nano mockup! My girlfriends gonna be a bit annoyed if it turns out true though as she hates touch screens! i know, i know... but she just can't get on with them! She does need a new nano for her car though, and i do really like that mockup ;)

...

A 3G iPod touch sounds like a good idea until you look at the cost of the current 16gb touch and add a $130 for 3G (the amount they charge for it on the iPad) and you may as well just get an unlocked iPhone without contract
