ummmmm who said anything about discontinuing the touch? if they add 3G then it will be just like the ipad. Seperate model, and pay as you go. (menaing you don't pay month to month)

and theres nothing wrong with making it a tad bit thicker.

No I'm not saying they will discontinue the iPod touch. The iPod touch now is currently like the 3gs except without the 3g and phone capabilities. If they add 3g to the touch, the only thing that will distinguish it from the iPhone is the phone app. If they do that, they might as well discontinue the touch.

iLife: bring it on! But how would the man on the street transfer movies from iMovie to DVD without iDVD?

I've said it before and it is looking more possible now that putting 3G in the Touch would be a brilliant move. It might make it a bit thicker but the ability to use my iPad SIM (and contract) with either device would be a compelling feature, plus if it gets 3G then you know it is going to have GPS too..that's all good. :)

Scraping the classic seems logical, but however, mark my words, for next year's 10th anniversary they're gonna release the iPod with the "Classical Touch"

And the nano/shuffle thing, it's basically a upgraded shuffle. Why they'd still call it Nano is beyond most of our understanding.

And 3G touch is like... *insert flabbergasted expression*

Why? There are people who dont want to be tied to a contract or are happy with their phones already. It will be data only like the ipad. Pay as you go.

I thought the 1st gen touch does not have a mic. Only 2nd gen and older support the mic headset..rite?

I use my 1st gen iPod Touch as a phone. Just plug in the mic/speaker and use Skype. Yea it's not the greatest set up but I don't mind.

So about iLife '11... I have a new iMac, had it less than a month. They gonna let me upgrade for free?

No.

You already got iLife for free with your new Mac, so Apple has no obligation to give you a new version for free if and when it is released. If you physically bought iLife within a couple weeks of a new version being released then possibly, but since it's the version that came free on your Mac then there is no way it'll happen.

Anything 3g is a contract. There is a reason that there is an ipod touch and iphone. I'm not spoiled rotten. The ones asking for 3g are.

Look at the iPad.

No-contract 3G service.
AT&T 3G Data Plans for iPad
Data per month Price per month
250MB $14.99
2GB $25

One month is based on 30 consecutive days, and starts at the date and time of your purchase.

In the United States, 3G service is available through a breakthrough deal with AT&T. You choose the amount of data per month you want to buy — 250MB or 2GB. You’ll receive onscreen messages as you get close to your monthly data limit so you can decide whether to turn off 3G or upgrade your plan. Best of all, there’s no long-term contract. So if you have a business trip or vacation approaching, just sign up for the month you’ll be traveling and cancel when you get back. You don’t need to visit a store to get 3G service. You can sign up, check your data usage, manage your account, or cancel your service — all from your iPad.

Yeah well I just so happened to get Snow Leopard for free when it was released, few months after I bought my macbook. Well see if Apple re-instates the grace period.

You still don't get it do you. Whatever, no one knows what Apple will do, I don't really want to argue with you, it's becoming pointless. You can't see my point, I can't see yours.

If the touch adds 3g, I'd want it to be usable on any 3g network... Hopefully apple has learned from the mistake with the iphone and at+t.

That truth will not go to the iPod touch. if it does I blame the fanboys for the spoiled rotten crap...

It's not just "spoiled rotten fanboys" that would like to see 3G in it. I have an iPhone now (which I pay for myself, thank you very much), but back when I used my iPod touch out and about it did become a bit of a pain at times if I wanted/needed to look something up but there wasn't a wifi hotspot around (they're not as prevalent in Australia and many other places in the world as they are in the US). I'm not saying I would've used it constantly, but having 3G just would have been a convenience thing for me. In the end it doesn't matter though - unlike other people I did weigh the options and moved to the iPhone because it did offer what I wanted.

If that nano is less than $50, I will have to buy it and wear it as a watch.

You read my mind! I bet someone will create a cover for it w/ watch straps! I wish Nike would create it and had in the back of the cover a heart rate monitor so that it could bring Nike+ to perfection, also I need a new geeky watch that can do a bunch of stuff to replace my suunto observer that keeps breaking the strap!
---------
People if the new Ipod Touch came with a 3G sim card it would basically increase the cost of the unit exponentially (due to the new parts, also prob. no 64Gb ipod touch since one of the 32Gb spaces would be used by the 3G chip) since there would be no contract unless you subsidize it to a network.... an iphone cost $600-700 w/ no contract and no one is going to pay the same price for a touch that has no phone capability (they would basically cost the same to make)... If you people really want an ipod touch w/ 3G wouldn't it be easier to get a unsubsidized iphone and just put an iPad sim card and run the data only iPad card?

Yes I do kid. What you need to understand is while yes, it will be the iphone with out the phone there will still be people who want a smaller data only device. While the ipad can do it, you can't place it in your pocket)

You may not have to worry about this since mommy and daddy provide you with your needs but with most cell phones, there is a contract. You are tied to that contract. If you chose to leave before its up you are face with a $250 or more fine. With the 3G, chances are apple will go the ipad route and provide cheep, pay as you go plans. Way cheeper then the iphone (as you have to pay for the voice (AKA minuntes) and you can cancel at anytime.

I don't want to come off as a jerk, but I don't think you get it.

If Apple release the iPod touch with 3G capabilities (Even without the phone app, because you could still make calls with the headphone Mic) it would conflict with FUTURE sells of the iPhone.

Future customers who is on the fence about getting the iPhone would have no need to, if the iPod Touch basically have the same specs. I said this before in another thread, What would be the selling point for a customer who was looking at the iPhone and Touch (BESIDES the "phone" aspect)?. . . I could see this happening. . .

Rep:Well the iPhone can make calls!
Cus:Okay, what else. . . . .
Rep:Oh the Retina Display
Cus:*Yawn* The Touch has that now
Rep:3G support?
Cus:Last week Steve made the Touch 3G Capable as well. . . anything else?

If the iPod Touch had the SAME feature as the phone, everyone would just buy the Touch. (Which would conflict with Apple's money, so I don't see that happening, anytime soon.)

This is another reason why I believe this revision of the Touch won't be as big as everyone is hoping for.

Well there you have it....the iphone........................................hello?......................iPod touch serves different purpose
