this is probably for 4G, not 3G... possibly coinciding with apples new iPhone, which they Jobs said would be an A+ release (4G/Verizon?)

i also remember someone saying on here about a hybrid GSM chip that could fall back onto Verizons CDMA signal when 4G is low.

No 4G Verizon phone would work this year. Not until Verizon starts rolling out 4G next year. All these talks about "iPhone 4G" are false. Yes, it's a new iPhone, it's a fourth generation. But it is not 4G. They probably mean, G4(generation fourth/fourth generation.) They only way of a 4G iPhone rolling out this year is only if Sprint networks get it.(Which I really hope they do instead of Verizon. If there were to be a CDMA device.)

Verizon sux

Back in the day I had a Verizon cell phone. I dumped it because they would not let me tether it to my Mac. I bought a Sprint T608 SE and was able to tether unlimited data for $15 a month. When the iPhone came out I switched to ATT and haven't looked back. Still tethering...

Keep telling yourself that the US is the only CDMA market.
Keep telling yourself that many millions of dollars of equipment is going to disappear in a year or two.

Apple can choose to stay with limited market coverage. After all the objective is not suppose to be a major player in the market. I'm sure Palm and Android vendors are going to enjoy having a foothold to grow market share off of.

iPhone/iPad doesn't optimally work on T-mobile either. That same issue of US frequencies being different from current mainstream legacy 3G countries is just as true in LTE for all the US vendors.

CDMA makes up 18% percent of the market Globally and guess what makes up the other 82%. just an FYI

I wouldn't plan on a Verizon iPhone anytime soon.

I was ATT customer, then Verizon customer and back to ATT thanks to iPhone. ATT grew leaps and bounds from my first experience. I never liked Verizon, especially their pricing for messaging. With my teenagers it was a rubbery in progress plus the locked up phones. Internet access, yeah, open your valet really wide for that one and multiply by 4. No wonder their CEO talks about messages all the time. I never heard him talking about new network services, features or infrastructure. That much messages, this much messages, bla-bla. And yes Verizon drops phone calls just like that ‡†. Thanks, but no thanks.

Bwaaa Haaa Haaa, AT&T is a subpar network.

They were rated last of all the networks in a recent customer survey.

Keep em coming that is funny!

Yes, they may have been rated last but Apple selected ATT and not Verizon because Verizon wanted to dictate policy, marking, and feature set of the iPhone. Now, it's going on three years and Verizon is still trying to get the iPhone on their network.

Apple will not build iPhone specific for the Verizon network because Apple prefers that the current iPhone should just work as is. It works this way when I got to Europe and it works this way when I'm in the states.

Sorry, I ment to say.. "4G verizon phones wouldn't be able to work this year!"

And still we won't see 4G iPhones until 2013 at minimum. Why? The network footprint won't be as large until that date, also, power consumption of the 4G chips needs to lower to Apple's expectancies before we get it and lastly, Infineon needs to develop the chip itself, which takes a year give or take.

Your tears are so delicious...

Tears you say? Those are the tears of AT&T customers by this time next year when millions and millions more iDevices are put on an already strained network. You are the only one that thinks AT&T has a perfect and very robust network nationwide.

Android is the way to go if you want iPhone like features, but network choice. Apple is leaving Google one heck of a wide window to really build their market share over the next year. Heck they have left them the #1, #3 and #4 carriers in the United States and Android is coming to AT&T as well... so make that all 4!

You keep hoping that the AT&T exclusive agreement stands, but if it does it is not going to take long for Android to take over the market and never look back.

If you look at the last Consumer Reports survey on major U.S. cellular carriers, none of them can really brag. Yes, Verizon came ahead of T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint but just barely.

Essentially Verizon is a 38" giant in a land of three-foot midgets.

Nicely done....
:)

At&t is really good. Maybe you don't get that well reception, but oh well. I don't get good Verizon 3G. Give at&t some slack bro. They still got months to improve their quality! Who knows what they'll do next. Also, it makes sense that you obvioiusly want an iPhone like every other vFanboy crybabies. Suck it up, and get the phone now. There is now way Verizon is getting the phone soon. Do the research! Don't rely on analysts. Btw, good luck with that Droid of yours. Can your phone pinch to zoom?

Note: I'm not talking just CDMA, I mean the whole AT&T exclusivity thing:

AT&T has ~85 million subscribers out of the total of ~275 million in the USA. That's 190 million subscribers whose carrier doesn't have the iPhone.

Therefore, as I said, Apple is ignoring over 2/3 of the USA market.

That is ridiculous, you are not that dumb.

100 percent of the USA market can switch carriers. Even ignoring prepaid and people out of contract, each year at least 50% of customers have the opportunity to switch carriers without breaking a contract. It happens every day; Verizon customer moves to AT&T, AT&T customer moves to Sprint, etc.

And after Sprint, they never think to decide to go to T-Mobile, and see how reliable Sprint actually is. :D

Not Apple's problem. Also, I know that runs at EDGE speeds. Yet, you still have choice.

May I ask what your issue with Verizon is? The way you troll on them makes it sound like they murdered your entire family or something.

Its a known fact that at least in my state (CT) AT&T sucks. And while Veizon's crippled phones and overall prices do piss me off, they have way better service. Everyone I know has made the switch to Verizon, except the few with iphones who refuse to give them up, and suffer with the inconveniences that AT&T throws their way.

Yet, you can achieve the unlock and use it thru T-Mobile.

Only techo geeks will do that and that is such a small number it is not worth talking about. It requires jail breaking and then cracking it and so on. Plus you do not get any subsidised cost. If you are not with ATT in the US apple is ignoring you.

Boy the truth stings. Apple is effectly not paying attention to 2/3 of the market. AT&T is not going to grow that much more. They will sit at their 1/3 market. I do not see them becoming the number 1 carrier any time soon. The smart people out there choose the carrier first then choose the phone. Most people I know choose what carrier they want then worry about what phone they can get.

Not with ATT or want ATT no go on getting the iPhone. Apple pays no attention to you.

My carrier is AT&T and no I do not have nor do I want an iPhone.
Apple limiting itself to just AT&T is going to cost them in the US. Android is taking hold and growing very quickly and now has coming to AT&T so Android phones truly have access to 100% of the US market. Apple just 33%/. RIM has access to 100% of the market. Hell the hated Window Mobile has access to 100% of the market.

I also would like to point out I do not like Verizon and never will use them. But I am not going to trolling and bashing them.

They suck in their service where I lived and tried to shove down my pocket my final bill worth $350 in very questionable stuff I never got (like MMS, SMS, and int'l minutes I never consumed). It took me 3 days and a lawyer threat to make them leave my bill as it was before.

Cancelled service promptly that same month (I was never in a contract so ETF never hit me) and switched to AT&T (in that time Cingular) with a regular plan and 200 texts. Ever since that day, AT&T has been wonders to me. No dodgy charges, CS calling me sir and being extra nice with my questions, and easy to understand policies. Got my 1st Gen and all I did was just add the data to my line and presto. AT&T has given me no headaches ever and everywhere I have gone, I have enjoyed great service. Verizon down here is all static and garble.

fair enough. i suppose the service thing is all about where ya live. glad to hear your happy with AT&T tho that sounds like a good experience to me.

Glad that you are happy with AT&T's service. But please take into consideration that many people in the US are poorly served by AT&T, namely in the South and rural areas. It would help these people if the iPhone came to Verizon. No need to bash that.

You mean the North right? South is blanketed by the Bell conglomerate which is now AT&T.

Well upon further examination of AT&T's map on their website, coverage is pretty poor throughout the country except for more densely populated areas. 3G coverage, while certainly faster than Verizon's 3G, is pretty much non-existent in most of the country. The point is that there are lots of people who are not served adequately by AT&T and it would really be a benefit to them if the iPhone came out on Verizon. I'm not sure why you have an issue with this, but I am certainly open to hearing your reasons.

I have done the research. AT&T is not even available in the state where I live so I am not sure how I could get the phone now. AT&T is trying to buy some of the old Alltel assets that Verizon was forced to sell after the merger in my state. If it is approved they will have some sort of a hodge-podge CDMA network with a little GSM roaming capability. Knowing AT&T you can plan on at least 24 months before they have converted the network over and it remains to be seen if it will be a statewide 3G network.

What would you do in my situation? Probably what I did. I have no faith in AT&T to serve the rural midwest the way Verizon has. AT&T has said over and over again they are only concerned with the top markets in the US. If they come into South Dakota and provide the same network footprint and 3G service quality as Verizon does I will eat my words, but I am not expecting it.

For those of you living in large metro areas it is easy to say we don't need cell service out here, but we do. A lot of rural customers have a very favorable opinion of companies that spend the time and money to make sure we are connected. If you were living in a rural area like me your opinion of the Verizon network would be much higher.

BTW - I really like my Droid. Thanks for asking!

The horror?

You mean Verizon drops calls, I thought the fanboys told us they didn`t.
