I am happy with mine. It is neat to have another display next to my computer monitor, never had that luxury.

At 1.5lbs, holding it in my hands, as light as it is, gets to feel heavy after awhile. I need to find something that holds the iPad in landscape mode. Some cool apps like the aquarium app only work in portrait mode. I reckon I will have to find a small plate holder or something to hold it.

No serious complaints at this point.

One of my friends bought an iPad likewise today but cannot get any of his videos to import into the device, even ones purchased from iTunes. Apparently some are having the same issue however mine does not.

its pretty good living in the uk as we get it late april, so you americans are like our gini pigs finding all the problems so when we get it it should be almost perfect

.

I'm waiting for the cover in mid-month which is configurable for that. That might be worth looking into if you're willing to wait a lil while. I'll post the link in a bit.

to those that got their hands on one of these beauties:

I am going to shop for a college laptop fairly soon. I would like to know if an iPad can be a candidate or the does keyboard capabilities hinders it for this purpose. The main reasons why I even consider one is the weight (an accident I had earlier this year is still taking its burden in my back) and the battery life.

Another question, are there any news on textbook prices yet?
Thanks, and enjoy your new toy

It seems like about 90% of Huffington Post content is iPad related today. I think it's safe to say that the iPad was well received.

About a month from now people will know more about potential uses for the iPad, I look forward to seeing what else will be thought up for it.

Sorry, WRONG, it's running iPhone OS, a derivative version of OSX and it is NOT multitasking. Certain backround tasks are happening like PUSH notifications, but at no time are 2 programs running at the same time such that you can switch back and forth to cut/paste info from one app to another or switch windows from one program to another.

Actually, you are wrong! You can play iPod music, receive email, iCal updates, Push Notifications, contact updates. etc. while surfing the web. Each one of those involves at least 1 task... and they run concurrently.

What Apple does not [currently] allow is multiple 3rd-party apps to run concurrently.

International keyboards

Does the iPad have the same ability to add international keyboards such as Danish as the iPhone does?

This thing is FAST!!!!

Way faster than expected.

Screen is beautiful -- Enterprise and Captain Kirk looks great on it.

Webpages load in faster than new iMac i7 on same network.

Wow.

Man, I'm glad you said that. I've got a 3G on order. My demo in the Apple Store today was only slightly disappointing because Safari wasn't as fast as I had hoped(having just purchase an i7 iMac myself). If yours was good then that tells me their network/Internet was slow. Thank God for that.

Your report makes it even harder to wait for the 3G.

I can see a laptop in your future :D

Just some random observations from the Brea Store. I went in knowing I was not going to buy one (and didn't) but wanted to see how I might use one if I did.

1) Very impressed with the overall responsiveness. Can't wait to see a similar experience with a future iPhone.

2) Actually lighter than I imagined, but I'm a big guy.

3) Internet surfing speeds were amazingly fast but Apple probably has much higher bandwidth than my DSL at home.

4) The book app was impressive. I can see families really enjoying this device and students, this is a must have, IMO.

5) iPhone apps looked much better than I thought, especially after reading this article. 2x feature is great.

6) The line to buy one was small and it seemed like there were plenty available. I asked a couple employees but both said they didn't know. Got the impression, even if they did, they weren't going to tell me.

7) There were smudges on the screen but didn't even notice them when I was reading and playing. This is a non-issue.

8) Keyboard and typing were amazing. I have an iPhone so I understand letting the device do all the self-correcting. Makes me want this ability on my work and home machines.

9) Movies were exceptional. Kind of noisy in the store so not sure about sound quality. If this thing really does get 10+ hours of continuous viewing, it's a no-brainer for anyone who travels a lot.

10) Photos was another app that was amazingly responsive. I couldn't believe how fast it was at flipping through pictures and zooming in and out and the expanding of events and such. Very cool.

Overall, I really wanted one. I'm just not sure which one to get. 32 or 16 GB. Do I need 3G? Should I wait for 2.0 like I did with the iPhone? Will the kids really read books on this device? I know they would play games but that's the last thing they need.

I am also waiting for the new MacBook Pro's, which I am definitely going to get, so is there a way to justify getting both?

Funny I love it when this was announced everone said this is gonna flop etc etc I knew once people got there hands on one they will be in love with it :D

Buy the Apple cover accessory--can be used to prop up iPad in viewing incline mode or full vertical.

Stupid no 3G on launch date. :(
I guess that’s a good thing. I'll be able to figure out what I wanna do in terms of my next cell phone and the iPad. I can't decide and I want to see the new MBPs and iPhone before I jump on one.

I'm very dissatisfied with my iPad. After unboxing it and using it for a few minutes I have not been able to pry the device out of the hands of my kids.

Can't Apple make a product that my kids can't stand so it will be mine alone?

I would like to know this as well. I know it won't be the same as OSX but would be interesting none the less.

HA! That is so true isn't it? One of my friends has a son who won't stop playing with his ipod touch, just imagine what's going to happen when my friend buys an ipad...

I think 3G is obvious simply because you can turn it on and off as needed. So if you are a wifi believer and you go to some vacation where wifi sucks, you can turn on 3G for that period.

My question is mainly why does anyone "need" more than 8GB? I suppose if you are a videophile and have a lot of ripped movies, then yes. Otherwise, why?

I ask.

This is a client-server device. Once you have bandwidth on occasion, one can download the next set of media from your own home computer.

For those complaining about heft (mass) I have been posting over 2 years about ATNN (do a search) which I envisioned as this resolution of device or so (2-3x iPhone 1G) with the same graphics density. If one were to make a next gen iPad with the "same" resolution, but with a far higher density display, it would be "large pocketable" and "purseable".

I find it hilarious seeing all the people grading articles like this as "negative". I can just imagine them finding it all so upsetting that all these people like the iPad.

BTW, why do so many people on MacRumours take the time to respond to trolls? I feel like i'm in high school again, and someone is calling someone else a nerd, so they feel compelled to respond "No I'm not", instead of just continuing with the game of D&D that they were enjoying. You must realize that in this game, you lose by being distracted from what you enjoy, and they win by getting to have an arguement in which they derive pleasure simply by being antagonistic.

If you're enjoying your iPad, great. Keep on posting and skim past anything aimed at "fanboyz". Just enjoy your new toy.

That just shows the amazing hypocrisy (the unbelievable gall!) that gives non-"fanboys" just cause to be disgusted.

You guys get to trash ANYTHING that is non-Apple; point out faults and why a certain Apple product is better... but when it comes to pointing out faults of an Apple product, well, that's a MAJOR NO-NO and caused for exile!

You CAN'T MULTI-TASK on the iPad, as the PP pointed out. Having to save and shut down a PDF, to open up a different doc to copy and paste and close that and reopen your original work................. see what I mean?

The fact that you guys live life w/ blinders on just shows how immature and petty you can be.

As anti-fanboy as I am, I can ADMIT the iPad has some aaaaah-mazing things about it... but it's FAR from perfect. A shame you can't handle discussion about it.

Dear fanboyz:

Please stop with the nonsense about it being "fast" or "snappy." Hello, it is a unitasker. You know what that means? Only one program open at any given time.

So of course seems fast. So are laptops and desktops, the difference being laptops and desktops can multitask. You know, multitask, i.e. being able to actually use your machine to accomplish something more than surf TMZ.

That's not its only shortcoming.

It is not a G5 PowerBook
It does not have an internal optical drive
It does not have or even support Blu-ray!
It has NO Ethernet port
It has no physical or even a chicklet keyboard, chicklet being the higher issue.
It does not support Flash and probably never will directly.
It makes you PAY to downoad apps
It makes you PAY to download content readily available pirated elsewhere.

This sh&t sucks!

After playing with the demo unit for about a half hour, my hands were getting cramped and tired. The iPad really does have a lot of heft to it (which I assume is caused by the batteries). It felt almost as heavy as the small MacBook Pro. I found the fingerprints noticeable and distracting. I hope Power Support makes an anti-glare film for it (which Apple won't sell).

I played a couple games on it. Zen Bound was strangely laggy, as if it were only hitting about 15 fps. Real Racing HD faired slightly better. The accelerometer seemed way more responsive and accurate than the iPhone's. The Maps app was a bit of a mess. The satellite rendering was badly pixelated and wouldn't resolve when I zoomed in. I wish I could have rotated the view, a la Google Earth.

Mail is a big improvement over the iPhone version. But I still don't understand why Apple won't allow me to e-mail to a group; I still must select everyone individually.

The selling point for me, though, was Pages. The interface was elegant and easy to use. I'll bet that's going to be the future of desktop publishing. We'll actually be doing layout on a desktop-like surface with virtual clippings that we slide about with our hands.

Now I just have to wait for the 3G version.

:p Wow an actual critical post about the iPad. In these neck of the woods, that takes bravery, my boy! Better carry a billy club w/ you when you go to the parking lot tonight (or at least a loud saftey whistle). ;)

I applaud your post for its frankness. Those who attack those who think critically are just insecure Apple cider-drinkers. :)

Quoted from Apple's Website:

"Keyboard support for English (U.S.), English (UK), French (France, Canada), German, Japanese (QWERTY), Dutch, Flemish, Spanish, Italian, Simplified Chinese (Handwriting and Pinyin), Russian"

That's all for the current software, they definitely will add more languages in the future when iPad is shipped to more countries.
