Anyone on here will be quick to tell you that Apple retail employees aren't really privy to release dates, and if they somehow become privy, NDAs would threaten their jobs if they told you.

However, on an unrelated point, the employee was wrong about the education discount not applying to the Macbook Air. You can get the Air for $1699 with the education discount.

I understand that they aren't supposed to say anything whether they know or not and the employee made it clear multiple times that he could not disclose any information or rumors of new products. The way the question was asked about the discount on the new Pro with the discount was what got him.

Employees at Best Buy and at the Apple store both said the Air was not subject to the discount. The reason I asked the Apple employee was to see whether or not the two stores were on the same page.

But they were wrong my dear friend, as I used the education discount to purchase my MacBook Air, that's all I am saying. ;)

EDIT: SEE! ;)

Once the MBP updates actually do come, people will still complain. It will not be good enough for them. I wanted (insert useless idea).

Spoiled brats.

Interesting. Well, the Air is not practical for my usage either way. I'm just hoping that the new Pro is eligible and that it comes out this week :D

Yeah, that was kind of my point. Since the air is a completely new product and is eligible for the discount there is no way they would not allow an upgrade to be eligible. You should be good to go!!!

Even though I will not be getting a MBP, since it has been so long since they've been updated I think it would be cool to see what Apple comes up with. :D

I am not, however, so disillusioned as to believe that the whining will stop. :(

I think it would be funny to see no MBP updates just for the sheer entertainment value of the uproar on Mac Rumors! :)

It also would be funny if the update was a .2 ghz speed increase and another multi-touch gesture. :D

Yea, I know I'm am ******. But it would be funny.:D

hahaha, that'd be hilarious! I can imagine it now...

Steve Jobs: Well, boys, it looks like we're ready to announce and ship these new Macbook Pros this Tuesday!

(Jobs goes into his office to take a break. He goes on Macrumors to see the hype. "More New Apple Products... This Tuesday?" He also sees that everyone's happy and overjoyed)

(A devious smile crosses his face)

Steve Jobs: Screw it. Everyone! We're holding these off until June! But first...(he goes and posts the new specs on the Apple front page for just 10 minutes, making sure it says Feb 26, then reverts back to the Air)

(Tuesday comes. Mac Rumors crashes and dies from the overload of rants.)

Steve Jobs: Boom!

But yeah, I want it to come out only to stop the off-topicness of every single news on macrumors (got a Macbook Pro three weeks before they changed from X1600 to 8600 =( ).

Does this mean that the design would be the same? I dont get it why not just update the look of it too. ugh Apple sucks

heck

All I know is that im ready for a new MBP. I dont really like the keyboard on them now. Plus apple is upgrading me to either a MBP or a MBA due a a whole bunch or problems with my macbook. Im trying to hold out for a updated MBP though. I guess we will see in a couple days...

unfortunately, i ended up getting one of the old models as a replacement from apple last week. i was super disappointed - i was hoping for a new one because i've had really bad experiences with the current MBP's. I was hoping a new design would help them not be such crappy machines. but, that's kind of apple's thing lately.

but, if my experience with this computer is anything like the previous two they've replaced, i'll be able to get a new one in a couple months anyway.

Honestly the only thing that would make me buy a MBP now would be a better Graphics processor than the 8600. Is there one?

I don't think so. There'll be plenty of refurbs for Apple to keep giving you for a looong time. Sorry mate.

Reading all this stuff about touch screens on laptop has gotten me imagining a Nintendo DS-like MacBook with no keyboard or trackpad at all.
Instead a second identical screen which is a multi-touch interface ala iPhone is in it's place.

Keyboard displays when you need it, off when you don't, etc.

Could even have Optimus Keyboard-like changing keys.

That'd be pretty cool.

No, it wouldn't, unless you're a hunt-and-peck typist.

Yeah, it's just that there's a huge difference between the X1600 and the 8600...should have found out about Macrumors beforehand...probably was a rumor on it the time I was buying it.

But yeah, that's why I also haven't bought a replacement Macbook Pro (not that I'm going to).

I don't care what features they add, I don't care what features they remove, I don't care how much it costs, I just want a MacBook Pro! And I want a new one!

You know another thing i just thought about was the fact that these current MBP's have been out for like 9 months. Does anyone else have a problem getting a comp that will be replaced very soon? Maybe its just me...

First, I have posted this elsewhere but I havent gotten any answers. Here it goes... I got very sick of the waiting game and decided to go ahead and buy because I broke my MB and sold it on ebay.... and needed another mac for my work. Going with out a laptop for work is crazy. I broke down and ordered MBP last week and it will be here Monday. So what if apple redesigns the MBP this tuesday. I read somewhere you can return it if you bought it within like 15 days of a update or something. Can anyone clear this up for me??? Just curious... even if they do update it 9x out of 10 at this point in the game I could care less!!!!!

heres what id like to see

macbook pro macbook updates

blu ray option on all macs

new cin displays 20 30 40 with built in isight and 30 and 40 1080p suport

I have a problem with getting any computer that's been released for a few months. I base when I buy new computers on when there are upgrades. I'm also not afraid of "Rev. A" upgrades at all.

That is true they charge you a 10% restocking fee though...
