Fingers crossed. I'll be pretty annoyed now if the stores come back up and unanimously the only thing different is Time Capsule available. In pink.:p

It's got to be the day we've been waiting for...

I always enjoy the buzz generated by simply closing their store. It's not like they need to do it; online stores are updated live all the time. Apple does it solely so we can have this discussion. And honestly, I enjoy it.

9:00 PM in what time zone, though?

I think they had something similar for iphone stock checking and i think its just when they update their stock holding from the days sales - so you know if they will have any when you visit the following day

Strange question maybe but why do the stores go down for so long? Surely all the new content is ready, signed off and aproved on a staging server so they just need a simple switch?

i work for a company as big as apple, and when we do a web release - the site doesn't even go offline!?

Or are they just playing with us

I agree.. you would think they would have a testing site to stage the new content before publishing live..

Guess it helps adds to the suspense though ;)

if this is what is happening at all of the online stores around the world does anyone know whats happening in all of the real stores right now?
dont they get stock of the new machines to sell on their release date?
what happened to the rumours of hundreds of apple trucks and shop inventory lists?

[delete]strange double post[/delete]

Maybe too many engineers/designers at apple developing shiny new MBP/MB.
Maybe they should hire one person who knows how to update a site without bringing it down.....looks at calendar...2008.....is is that slylish these days...

I am hedging my bets on both the MB and MBP being updated today!!!!

Contagious buzz

I'm not even considering getting a new 'book, but even I'm checking the store pages every five minutes, and I agree with anyone who said that the UK store being down was significant. I wasn't expecting that.

And what happens if you ring the store now and try to buy a MBP/MB/iMac/whatever? Do they tell you to wait while they update things or do they let you buy?

Someone on Flickr just posted a photo - the 5th Ave. store in NYC is covered by 20-foot-tall post-it notes saying "We'll be back soon!"

:) (only kidding of course, although that would be a really, really funny photo.)

I have no idea why I have no money at all to spend on a new computer and yet I'm so terribly excited on the shop going off-line!! lol!

GOOOO APPLE!!!!!!!!!

Indeed, I know. :) I was trying to subtly hint that the time made no sense because it is a locally relative number, and these stores that are down now are probably all going to come back at the same time (or close--the US store is always first ).

Maybe Apple have a secret worldwide network of underground tunnels they use to ship new products to the stores??

Does Steve normally do a keynote speech before the site goes up with the goodies in the morning, or does everyone know before hand and can buy before hand? Does he always do a keynote?

Bryan

The German site Mactechnews.de is claiming that new MacBooks have arrived in retailer shops... nothing about MBP though!
