Um because it is not practical or functional at all maybe???

How is it not practical or functional? The multi-touch keypad should DEFINITELY stay, but I'm just saying that the multi-touch screen should be there as an option. AS a user, you should be able to turn Multi-Touch screen ON/OFF as you choose. I just want the option to touch a bookmark in my Safari bookmark bar or touch a link on CNN.com or touch an app icon in the dock if I wanted to. Like iPhone heaven. That's all I'm saying. Wouldn't you?

Why would it be the MacBooks?

I don't understand why people think that the MacBook would be updated, especially before the MacBook Pro. Especially since its a LONG ways away from being at the end of a cycle. The MBP is must more due for an update.

Because they've got both feet firmly suck about 5 year behind. Case in point - combo drive on cheap MB and MM. Only once they've stopped shafting customers with that old p.o.s. can they move on and give their pro line ( supposedly the best platform for content creativity ) the optical drive it deserves.

Doug

I love Apple, but even I will admit it is pretty retarded that they still have a combo drive in anything!

Time Capsule anyone?

I wouldn't get too excited about this coming Tuesday yet. It might be new MP Pros, but it might just be the new Time Capsules which were due out "in February".

Err, I think I know what he's trying to say so I'll clarify for him. By bulky he means old. He wants a redesign. Something fresh looking that doesn't have the old keyboard and nasty non-magnetic latch.

I'll agree about the clip latch, that would be nice to get rid of, but I really like the current MBP design. IMO, the keyboard is awesome and the general look of the MBP is still way ahead of everyone else. The look of the keyboard with the speaker grills and the matching touchpad just looks so perfect to me; I can't imagine a total redesign looking any better, but Apple is certainly full of surprises.

hmm, not quite sure about this: why would companies update their products if they already work fine?

e.g nano G1, it was fine, why couldnt they have just re-done the internals (more storage/battery)

Well I think the nano did get better in G2. The anodized aluminum didn't scratch like the shiny back of the G1.

i would love to see Flash for iPhone sometime soon, that would be VERY cool!! in my opinion cooler than SKD, because we can have all the apps we want already!

and flash would really make the iPhone browsing experience complete.

Ok buddy. Then you keep your MBP you have now and I'll buy the new one when it comes out. We'll both be happy ;)

Flash is coming this coming week in iPhone update 1.1.4.

Won't happen, Apple have a great market share with FCP.

I really hope so but over the last six months the rumors have gone from Apple thinking of selling to Apple taking bids to Apple has a done deal. I hope i'm wrong.

I love that everyone keep suggesting that it is just the time capsule even though arn already said it was clearly not that.

I'm pro MB style keyboard, mag-latch
That is freakin' pretty! but I'd want the normal speakers on the side of the keyboard.

You can't imagine how a redesign would make it look better? Have you seen either the MBA or even the MB? The MBP was nice at one time in the same way a 1970's Lamborghini is nice compared to a current day model. It's still neat, but you can't seriously want to live in the past forever. It's time for a change. Time to move on.

They will make it better, and you'll probably like the new look. Remember this: there were people who HATED the current design when it came out too. They don't seem to mind today though.

Time Capsule

Based on some of the post on the Apple forums:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6685552#6685552

"Best Buy has Time Capsule is advertised in their current weekly ad dated 2-24-08 to 3-1-08"

From the sweetwater.com site:
"It's Arriving Soon!
We've confirmed this item has shipped from Apple and should arrive in our warehouse within a day or two. Please call and place your order now. We will ship it immediately, the very same day we receive it from Apple. Call now. We promise you'll have it soon."

But don't you think by this June, it's finally time for that incredible new MBP Touch?

Also, the touch screen in Cali theory is untrue. Yes, people like to show it off, but it's user-friendliness and it's functionality is better than anything out there.
Apple is just barely starting to implement Multi-Touch with the MacBook Air. And even if they ever do make a Multi-Touch screen which I don't think they will for at least 3-5 years if at all then the OS has to support it. Small detail ;) What they are going to do is get rid of the keyboard and track pad and have that replaced with an entire touch surface which is NOT the screen. That will be in about 2 years when 10.6 comes and they have added all that into the OS.

If you want a touch screen then what you should be hoping for is the new Newton. That will be separate from the laptops.

My guess is that Apple is shipping the Time Capsules. I was at an Apple Store on Friday and the sales person mentioned that they expected the Time Capsules on Monday or Tuesday.

Maybe steve jobs will live up to his ego when he said that mac pros will offer great expansion. With that said, where the **** is my geforce 8800, or something of equal quality for my first gen mac pro?

Here we go again lol.

If there is a new MBP coming out, which I pray that there is, I hope it looks nothing like that. I think the keyboard on that image would be way too much like the MB keyboard and that it would totally destroy the effect of having a "Pro" notebook.
