OK my source just let slip that in addition to the new iEar and iRate (include iPhony plugin) the new phone will also be able to lip read using the front facing camera. This is very useful in high noise environments. In addition, the other party will also be lip-read and subtitles will appear on the screen. This way you don't even have to stop listening to your music when a call comes in. Your iPhone could be docked into a stereo and music pumping at club volumes and you'll still be able to make a call with the other (iPhone) person. It's called iSay.

Was there some connection between your post and my post?

why are everyone saying the new iphone doesnt make them change from the 3G?

The new iphone will be much better then the 3G, removing the cheap plastic casting to metal and adding faster processor etc will be cherry on the cake.

Remember forthcoming apps will be running much better on this new iphone video the 3G.

To be perfectly honest, even though this iPhone will have very significant upgrades, I think the major revision to the iPhone won't occur 'til next year. Why?

1. Multicore processor
2. OLED Display
3. 1st gen. PA Semi technology
4. OS 4.0 which will more than likely have full multitasking, integration between apps and a visually revamped OS that will be the answer to the Pre.

I sure can't.

is b.s.

I'll apologize profusely if you are even the tiniest bit right. I'm not worried.

an add "iphone, now with video!" would not do good for the apple brand in europe or in asia.

agreed. I was probably clutching at straws with the killer thing. But I do have a point. Because of the ecosystem, Apple can get away with shortcomings, at least for a while. But most of them need to be addressed to ensure a continuous supply of on tilt converters.

Now, I just heard from my source the most amazing thing about the new iPhone! You won't believe it. The new IPhone DOES NOT have a touchscreen!

Just like the Mac introduced the mouse, the iPod the clickwheel, and the iPhone the multitouch display, now Apple introduces a fourth revolution in pointing technology.

We're just gonna look at it. That's right, it's a pointing device we're all shipped with, and ya don't even have to lift a finger to use it.

How? Apple have been working with Canon to introduce Eye Controlled Pointer (ECP). Similar to ECF on Canon EOS cameras, using the new front facing camera, it will be able to detect where you are looking on the iPhone screen. And boy have they patented it.

You might well ask how you "click" with your eye. It turns out it's so simple. You simply raise an eyebrow (one click) or both (two clicks). This ingenious system is called iBrow.

Someone mentioned the Apple logo lighting up!?
I'd seriously be more excited about that than video chat!
Even MMS is more exciting than video!

To be honest I'm more excited about the new OS 3.0. I have no desire to upgrade my 3G at this time. Video means nothing to me. I doubt there is any new feature that will make me want to get the new iPhone. I've been happy with the 3G since day one. OS 3.0 will be all I need!

Oh yea, and bring on Snow Leopard!!!! :)

If the reports of the speaker at the top of the phone moving upward is true, then it certainly makes sense to fill the space with a camera otherwise there seems no point in moving the speaker at all! I'm personally not too bothered with the extra camera though; i'd just prefer a better main camera! But, any new features are welcome and to be fair there are clearly a lot of people who want one... I think if we had 32gb storage, MMS, Tethering, a better camera, video recording (and editing), a compass (with rotating maps app ;) ), a faster CPU/GPU AND a front facing camera with iChat app, then that would make an awful lot of people happy and bring a lot of new customers in... Luckily MMS and Tethering are confirmed and most of the rest of it seems very likely to appear.... If it does contain all of the above this 3rd gen iphone will be as significant a release as the original iPhone!! "3rd times a charm" as they say... Fingers crossed! Not long now....

My last final wish: it's released in June ;)

And to be perfectly Honest with you by the time your suggested specs come to light next year, there will be much better features Apple can't yet integrate because of cost or compatibility reasons, What I'm getting at is that you will ALWAYS be waiting for the next best thing. I am with you though all those sound great.

Loving the black brushed metal FLAT back. But I much prefer the silver chrome bezel, it makes the iphone look much more classy. But I'm sure even if it dose have a black bezel it will look great in the flesh.

You know these color scheme rumors remind of this :D

It's hilarious

I make a fake. To illustrate what iChat might look like on the iPhone.
I post it on MacRumors forum - saying it's a fake
Then some italian blogger, takes the image, puts on their own logo. Posts it.
And then MacRumors links to the italian blog.
"and calls it questionable"

Try to keep up.

um wtf...the design is going downhill with each iteration..
metal backing scrapped for plastic...then now shiny plastic scrapped for cheaper looking matte and the chrome trim is removed.....
i hope this is all fake

not holding my breath

Every year these pre-WWDC threads are full of great speculation, interesting ideas, and hilarious banter. Unforunately, Apple has been underwhelming of late. Maybe it is expecting too much, maybe reading these threads invites the feeling of letdown, I don't know.

Of course, 3.0 will be introduced and a few features will rely on the new iPhone. My 1G won't be able to do what I want most (MMS) so I'll be forced to upgrade. However, I once loved MMS now I've grown to be without it. Now, Apple wants me to want it again? For all it's great innovation, Apple certainly has shot themselves in the foot by taking steps with these yearly iPhone releases. I'm supposed to get giggly for voice recording? The fact that I might be able to actually use Notes and sync them to my computer is worth an upgrade? To me, these are things that should have been added in the 3G.

And, of course, Apple will announce a change in pricing structure with AT&T. We got burned by the 3G tax, now it will be something else related to the way the new iPhone will interact with the AT&T network. Another $5-$10 dollar increase in your bill to send MMS. But, you should buy this iPhone because the camera is improved and now features auto-focus. Hmmm.

I'll read the post-WWDC highlights, as always, with great anticipation and slowly be weaned down to a  look on my face at the end. Oh, and one more thing...

Bright light! Bright light!

Can someone please explain to me why there's no flash for the camera? My roommate has a Blackberry and she can take fantastic pictures when we're out or in a dark restaurant, etc. Oh, and she can send the pics to her friends via MMS. Me with my iPhone? Not I, said the fly.

Is there hope for one on the new phone or will we just have a front-facing camera that only works in daylight?

Someone already said it, but I'm really liking the sound of those Silver-Zinc batteries that are in the 17" MBP. I'm not sure if it's technically possible to (someone will know right?) but it seems like a good idea. They've already moved some principals from phones to notebooks, like multitouch, why not vice-versa?

This looks exactly like the current iphone, they need to come up with something new.

I don't get it. Why do so many people think he iPhone is out-of-date after two years? I don't hear complaints about typical PCs looking old, even though their design hasn't changed much in nearly 20 years!

If a design is good and works well, why change it? IMO the iPhone is still light years beyond any other design out there (even the Pre with it's old-style slide-out keyboard). I'm sure when Apple comes up with a good reason, the iPhone's design will change.

A Happy Coincidence …

My first post and I have read this thread with great interest. I don't think I am too excited by the idea of video on the new iPhone but obviously others are.

I was walking my dog this morning and - as always - was listening to my iPod Touch. I was in something of a hurry and so just hit Shuffle. The first track was by Beyoncé and it was "Video Phone". A Happy Coincidence …

We'll see tomorrow.

Its Li-polymer inside the 17" MBP. Silver-zinc batteries are not yet available with any manufacturer of laptops.

Looks incredibly boring... history shows that rumors and leaked pics are usually spot on this close to a media event, but this time I hope they're all way off. I refuse to believe that Ive and his team would take this lame direction. So the white version will have a white bezel? Yay, now I can finally have an iPhone that looks like an 8 year old iPod.

The iPhone would have to be one of the few Apple products that look worse for every revision... the original iPhone with the aluminium was sexy. The iPhone 3G looked like a poor man's 1st gen iPhone, and the new one will apparently look like a homeless bum's toy version of the iPhone 3G. I suppose the 4th generation due out next summer will look like a brown Zune soaked in vomit? Wohoo, progress...
