Except the Beatles fanboys, of course, who would be deliriously happy to buy everything all over again and chuck even more money at Sir Smug McCartney...

Which is especially funny in light of the release of the Master Collection last year... Seems Beatles fans need a yearly budget for expenditures related to music these days.

This is obviously a big announcement. The Beatles are the biggest selling band/artist to ever walk the face of the planet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists

To all those who are saying that 'anybody who likes the Beatles already has all of their songs', are you serious? That's like saying all of the best inventions have already been invented. Future generations will buy Beatles records. They will buy a lot of them. The implication for Apple in terms of revenue from sales figures is massive (that's revenue they can plough back into other areas of the business, meaning it has knock on effects for product development). So, win-win....

For the vast majority of peple whio use iTunes this is good news. Why in God's name would this story deserve a 'negative' rating?

Yet I'm huge Beatles fanboy, and I'd never rebuy anything from itunes. I already have my collection ripped in lossless, why would I ever buy acc encodes of what I already have in digital lossless?

Obviously if there are true exclusives, I might buy one or two tracks. Many others will do the same. Whole albums will never sell so poorly as they will from the Beatles collection.

Easy. Apple invoking their power over the customer base to draw attention that would otherwise be nonexistent, deserves a negative rating.

Truth, but the formula has been for years: obsessives buy first and speak for it, then the millions follow.

Yes, but still not my point.

To clarify further. People here are saying that, if it's the Beatles then the "hype" has been over the top.

I'd put forward that the members of MacRumours are not a representative sample to assess whether that is the case. We are far too obsessed by the systems themselves. People on here may think it's an "Apple fail", but many millions of people won't agree.

We will buy and spread the word with or without the advertising. The advertising isn't for us.

Anyone else been humming Beatles tunes in the last few hours. :p

Erm, no. I've been listening to something far more interesting, but not as popular. So I guess that means it's crap...

He's obviously well enough to have another go...

Maybe he's discovered earplugs!

Well sir, you're ovbioulsy not a true fan. Please return your fanboy certificate to the Beatles police...

we'll know in an hour.

i can't see this being JUST beatles releases.
i could see it being the illusive remixes that all of us die hards have been waiting for. that might get me to make my first itunes purchase. (i pro physical media)

i think at 10 a video may load up with the apple guys introducing the cloud without a meeting for the press to mess with.

I believe its 'negative' because people were expecting something exciting to be announced. Not that iTunes signed on another artist/band.

This will not be a day I remember. And in ten years I'm sure you won't either. I thought the announcement would be some sort of feature that would affect everyone using iTunes, hence the excitement.

Instead it affects people who want to buy the Beatles...

What if another poster is right? What "IF" apple has gained rights to sell Beatles stuff, with one big thing attached? There will be "never before released Beatles material."

This would surely be a day most of us never forgot.

lol - with all of the recent speculation of a streaming or cloud-based iTunes service, if does indeed turn out to be a Beatles announcement, it would be tantamount to taking your girlfriend out to the most expensive, romantic restaurant in town, getting down onto on knee during the dessert course, and asking her if she wants to go to a movie.

Why would I think music other than The Beatles is crap? I haven't even said that in the thread. All i've mentioned is that people trying to dis-credit the Beatles need their head checked.

You seem to think people on here that like the Beatles don't own any other music. lolz!1!111 etc

Trust me, as a beatles fan you'll think it's crap...

and not just any movie.. but Saw 3D.

Maybe Apple will change it's name in "November 16th"? So we will never forget..

Some rumors about "11" or "16" - any beatles songs? Anyone?

I proposed that theory and I'm sticking with it. Unreleased Beatles music coming exclusively to iTunes today.

The irony is that Apple have now created a self-fulfilling prophecy. I bet if you asked me in 5 years time if I remembered when the Beatles appeared on iTunes I'd remember it; not because of the event, but because of the hype. I'm not saying I'd remember it as a momentous point in my life, just that I'd be able to recall it like I can remember buying a new dishwasher 8 years ago.
