REM, oasis, although they both have nice songs. Placebo seems to be overrated lately, I don't really like them anymore (like it used to) :p it's just a song to say goodbye.

What about all those rappers and r 'n b music, they are way overrated!

yeah placebo's new album is garbage.....their older albums....black market music.....sleeping with ghosts.....those are amazing

What, they're overrated just because no NASA astronaut has yet requested that ground control play that catchy video of Sing for Absolution at the wakeup hour?! :D

I'll give you the video  might be overrated but I think that Black Holes and Revelations has some fabulous tracks. No way that album is overrated anyway.

This thread should be wastelanded if things stay as they are. People should stop stating their personal opinions as though they were scientific facts.

TO EACH HIS OWN!!!!

If you think a band is overrated and can explain why, please contribute your opinions as such ([Band name] SUCK BAD!!! does NOT count by the way).

If you simply can't stand the fact that other people enjoy a band that you don't, then you have nothing worth posting.

Any bands or artists that Apple uses in their ads :p

specifically coldplay, radiohead and U2
not to jump the bandwagon; they sell shows and people like em..cool whatever.
atleast outside of music some of attain other recognition.
I can agree with some of the things the singer in radiohead has said prior about music piracy and the riaa though.
but specifically for music, no thanks.

come to think of it NIN too, I dont know after With Teeth, then Year Zero, Slip and TR getting all resentful of his past after "Sobering" up...kind of ruined it for me, I love the work, talented, sells shows, good knowledge and appreciation for music and production...ill still listen to the old stuff.

Jonas Brothers = Screaming Kids. Yawn fest.

I have to say anything by Lil Wayne. Seems he's popping up like the plague, appearing in every song you hear on the freakin radio!

Anybody that thinks talking fast with rhyming is considered music is overrated.

Blink 182(duh), I was a fan in middleschool and part of highschool, and they're old stuff still holds a place in my heart(reminds me of ****ing **** up and lighting fires back when I had nothing better to do). But with the amount of talent they have, they shouldn't have gotten anywhere in the music industry. Travis Barker is a good drummer, but not as amazing as blink fans make him out to be. Tom and Mark probably can't play anything more advanced than pop punk..

i dont understand.. why are radiohead bad? overrated bands include for me at least, jonas brothers, blink 182, sum41 (all that punk kinda rock stuff with the bikini girls in the vids, if you get me jist) Most if not all the modern indie rock stuff thats come out recently, the artic monkeys, the libertines to name a few?

Off the top of my head, The Beatles.

From what little I understand, they didn't become popular because of their innovation or whatever musical styles people say they influenced. They give me the impression of the early 60s' version of a boy band, becoming popular by catering to girls with their looks and pop sounds rather than ability to create good original music. They weren't that great at playing their instruments or singing, compared with say Chuck Berry. Their innovations and influences came after popularity, and I care more about their ability to make good music than innovation. I have one of their earlier,pre-LSD CDs and the music is decent, just not worthy of the admiration people gave them back then.

U2 was the first band that came to my mind. Coldplay as well. Also, I think Led Zeppelin is one of the most overrated bands of all time. Stairway to Heaven is awesome, everything else is mediocre in my opinion.

If we're going for just flat-out didn't deserve the fame then I think I'd say Milli Vanilli, you can't deny they were epically overrated with all the chart-toppers they had.

My big one is U2, but i have tons. Anything Disney (Hannah,Jonas, etc.) IRON MAIDEN!!! Kiss,The Stones,Bruce Springsteen and the E street BS.

EDIT: I almost forgot MJ

Definitely Coldplay. They started as cheapskate Radiohead imitators, but have turned to imitating U2 now. Absolutely hate the band.

I love Radiohead, by the way.

U2 is actually okay. Well, they used to be. Since Zooropa they've definitely gone downhill. Well, actually since Achtung Baby, which I consider to be their last great album.

Oasis has always been highly overrated, while Blur has always been seriously underrated, unfortunately.

They're not bands, but certainly Duffy, Norah Jones and Katie Melua are highly overrated. And so is Eminem.

The Black Eyed Peas are also very much overrated.

All in my opinion, of course.

I could have a long, long list but I keep it short with:

U2
&
Radiohead

oh, and Oasis

Oasis?
False.

Most Over-rated band: Jonas Brothers.
Even though i don't know if that counts because the only people that like them are pre-pubescent girls who have been manipulated by Mickey Mouse himself.

Most overrated band would have to any band which comes at the end of this sentence...
"The Beatles are crap. There are way better bands today, like ......... "

Which brings me to another point. Beatles bashers. You think they were boring and uninnovative, but you know that they did invent/perfect modern music as we know it? List of things they did...
- Arrangement (2 guitars + bass + drums (+ maybe keyboard)), taken for granted today...
- Wrote their own songs. Beforehand there were professional song writers. The Beatles made writing your own songs expected from bands...
- Made the album a piece in itself. The Beatles arranged songs on an album so that they worked together. Not a compilation as there was before.
- Which brings me to Sergeant Pepper. Every song was different to anything that had gone before, and yet it still worked.
- Variety of styles. Bubblegum pop, proto-Rock, Ballad, experimental songs (see Yellow Submarine, Strawberry Fields, I am the Walrus e.t.c.), Rock, proto-Heavy Metal . They tried everything. And it all worked...
- And most of all...it was good! Hence why girls screamed and such at the time, and their music collection is the most valuable today...
