Not bad looking - except for the band....needs a nice anodized black steel band....but the killer is the (less than?) one day battery. My Pebble lasts a week - that's tolerable, but still wish it was longer. Charging every day - even wirelessly - is too much hassle.

The Verge review says 12 hours battery life.
Anyone who buys a watch with that kind of battery life deserves to have a Samsung ad made about them.

I agree, also for me the battery is the reason why I'm not interested in these. I'm already forgetting to charge my iPhone and iPad often enough. One or few days charge for a watch is not tolerable.

You still have to pair it with your phone? Plus no Hangouts camera on it? Another Fail.

If Apples iWatch doesn't have to pair to your phone and if it has a FaceTime Camera with a loud speaker, it will take over the world. Especially if it can check your glucose.

You should be an analyst!!

If I do get one then I hope there is an option to photograph the back of my wrist skin and use that as a wallpaper so it looks like I have an INVISIBLE WRIST!!

Oh wait, not an invisible wrist, an INVISIBLE WATCH!

Yeh, emperor's new watch, and when people say 'what is it?' I push an invisible button on what looks like my wrist skin, and Flappy Bird appears.

Also, I could pretend to have a trendy tattoo on my wrist, but actually it is a photograph of a trendy tattoo superimposed over the photo of my wrist.

Also, the portable doctor app could overlay things onto my wrist skin, as if I can see into my own blood veins. And little icons for Vitamins, and Bloody Glucose levels, and Leprosy could scroll past to show me my current state of well being.

Like notifications, but actually look like they are flowing through my wrist veins.

If I can tap the icons to cure the ailments then even better.

I wouldn't buy this because I don't like the way the band is attached. There is no transition into the watch itself, making it look like a piece of cilinder that sits on top of your wrist.

Equally high watches usually have a band attachment that transitions into the house of the watch making it look more elegant and natural.

This is why Samsung wants to leave the Googlesphere so badly. They're part of an ecosystem where they end up competing with themselves. For Google this is a win-win. For all those manufacturing the actual products it becomes a tie-lose.

Well it's not an awful design, but it doesn't look that different to an inexpensive Casio watch.

My 18-year-old Tag Heuer is a thing of beauty that gives me pleasure every time I look at it. A smart watch would need to be an extremely good looking device to persuade me to change.

The other thing is that it's a real pain to visually interact with a device that is positioned on the outside area of your wrist. A wrap-around band makes more sense.

.

Careful, that's how mobile phones started. Technology meant they started big and got smaller and smaller because that's what people wanted, then everything reversed because idiots thought they needed massive screens.

Smart watches will get smaller and then Samsung will release a ridiculous 4" round watch in 2024 so all the Android people can continue to look like idiots.

That just made me think of someone walking around with a Nest Thermostat on their wrist.

Here's my prototype

And it controls the temperature at home.

I'm the biggest Android fanboy around these parts but this is not the watch to get guys. Poor battery life, ancient processor, lcd instead of oled display and the flat tire screen. I will call it like I see and the only saving grace is the $250 price tag which is close to the other smartwatches released so far.
If the iWatch looks good and priced good I will praise it but if it sucks I will talk bad about it as well.

Haha I just noticed the fake screen overlay, thats not good. Especially when the overlay wasn't moving at the same time as the guys arm lol

If you look closely you can see the round object move around slightly in the watch which you often get when using the tracker tool in After Effects. The hand and the screen on the watch move out of sync. This is often done to overlay a screen on an object to make it more clearer. If you compare the shots with this link you can see the difference.

An awesome example of this tool was used in this videoclip. They animated t-shirts designs using the same tool.

you can see it moving, and not aligning with the centre of the watch :)

Yeah , you're right :), I watched the video again and noticed those things .

Apple really need to get the pricing of their wearable, whatever form it takes, spot on. They can't afford to be greedy with this.

Please please Apple don't release something if you're not able to get more than a day battery life. That would be a deal breaker. Also it sill seems to me that smartwatches are a solution looking for a problem and all the OEMs are doing is trying to make the device look more fashionable to justify its existence. I don't care how nice something looks if it isn't useful and right now these devices seem to be nothing more than trying to put a smartphone on your wrist.

Not sure if you watched Samsung's keynote this week but they praised Google a few times. And leaving Google is basically phone suicide at this point. They even put their Tizen based phone on hold which is only in their wearables. Plus they have a Android Wear watch and will be making a circle wear version pretty soon.
Samsung at this point would be crazy to leave Android/Google.

The LG looks much better than the 360. Plus it has a Amoled Display with real Black.

I agree. The only negative is that if you want a digital only display the numbers around the border would be out of place. But that's a price I would pay to have a full 360 display.

And this is why these kinds of devices don't appeal to me. Could they be cool and fun to use - yes. But I really don't want to have yet another device to have to keep charged. Especially daily. I get annoyed enough having to recharge my Pebble every several days but at least it's not every night nor am I concerned on any given day that it will just stop working.

Whether it's Apple, Samsung, Motorola, LG or whoever - you have to up the game here. Especially if you want to displace the wristwatch.

It looks quite good on pictures but seeing it on a wrist in use it looks pretty stupid imo. Way too big and the design doesn't really help at making it look less clunky. However, it still is the best attempt out there so far imo.

Still, I don't see the use. What we see in the demo video is someone who does things that can be done on a smartphone (more efficiently) without having to take it out (which is really not a very tedious task). So why would I want to do this? If I want some navigations, I probably want to look at the map on the big screen of a smartphone. I can look at the whole thing, zoom in, try alternative routes etc. I simply don't see that convincing a lot of people. I wouldn't want to charge that thing every day when it adds that little functionality to my smartphone.

The Verge review said circular displays are the right form factor. Other than circular perhaps looking more fashionable (and like a traditional watch) I find that hard to believe for anything other than displaying time or maybe something simple like steps, heart rate, etc. How can a circular display be better for viewing notifications, texts, maps, email, etc.?
