you mean like the white iPhone4?

Correct.

The difference is that there is a black iphone4 and other products from Apple that are selling quite well. This product likely won't make it to market at all with no alternative. Motorola is just trying to fool the investors.

lol burn.....

its a fact that this tablet will be featured at CES 2011 come January 6, 2011.

Winnie the Pooh: 'oh bother'

Featured. But will it go to market?

I agree. This is a fantastic teaser.

Andy Rubin showed the protoype of this tablet and there is no "Home" button on this tablet. For years, Apple has been trying hard to get rid of the home button. Except this time, Google achieves this first. This is why Google states 2.2 (Froyo) or 2.3 (gingerbread) is not meant for tablets.

But hey, when Apple gets rid of the home button in iPad 3.0, they will once again tout this "revolutionary" feature.

What indicates that they are trying to get rid of the home button?

theres a youtube video of the motorola tablet in action demonstrated by the creator of Android, Andy Rubin (Steve Jobs equivalent, just not as much of an ******)

Ouch! Thanks for posting that video, I've been meaning to see it since reading the transcript, but man, that was painful to watch.

Andy Rubin "Oh, I'm not the master of anything... Not even my dog."

Pretty much sums it up.

If this is the guy who Samsung and Motorola are putting supreme confidence in and betting their future business model on (imagine!) they are surely doomed.

I would have to disagree with your assessment though, I would offer that Andy Rubin is ten times the a**hole that Steve Jobs is. But then again, my definition of a**hole does not include people who are serious, smart, and wildly successful like Steve Jobs. It does include uncharismatic borderline frauds like Andy Rubin.

So, Android made a weak version of the iOS app UpNext 3-D Cities and rendered a very primitive section of San Francisco to show it off. A year late and a dollar short— oh, but it's exclusive to Android and Honeycomb... Won't even be on the web GoogleMaps he said! Give me a break, what an a**hole. :)

All that was missing from his performance was the flop-sweat. Pfft.

What are you talking about? You can see it here.

I was really amused when he was pointing out that since theres not a home button you can orient the tablet in any way...the lady said "there's only one button on the iPad but I see what you mean" and he went on to say "well, you can still get a little lost"

Superficial humor would laugh at how he gets lost with one button

Moreso I was amused at how hard he was trying to use that as a differential feature

ok then, how about this difference;

Since Apple delivers, there was an expectation that it would available for purchase. The white iPhone vaporware affected millions.

Since Motorola has nothing else available, no one expects anything from them. No one would notice vaporware from them.

shouldn't we focus on the greater crime against humanity? ;)

I do believe he was being humble and not arrogant

and motoblur isn't 2.1+ ? idk what you're trying to say

yes it uses Motorola's UI overlay. and ?
I think he meant Motorola's custom skins. Motoblur is one example, which is why I threw that out there.

Just saw the video -thanks- and I feel sorry for him a bit, because they keep bashing on "Apple already done that", which is true, but I don't think is a good point because they should focus on what he has to present.

However, he hasn't presented anything new beside the dual core nvidia and the fact that the device doesn't have phisical buttons [hopefully it has a turn on/off button at least].
It does - on the back (confirmed by Engadget).

The guys at Motorola must be laughing their asses off given the amount of attention they are getting, almost 200 replies.
I know, right?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8C148)

Motorola is great when it comes to ads. Making Apple device-killers, not so much.
:D

My question exactly. What's wrong with a home button?

I wouldn't go overboard with iPad 2 comparisons - remember what the second iPhone was, "Yay, we added a 3G radio, yay!"
I don't expect the next refresh to be that mediocre. Check out the official iPad thread.

Right. Apple took over with the first real smart phone and the razor died. Since then, no one would notice Motorola releasing anything, including this latest attempt to copy the ipad.

Well, honestly, I never called him arrogant.

If "the boss" of the enterprise is suggesting he is of such weak character as to be subservient to his dog, then what confidence could anyone in said enterprise have in him to lead?

In my opinion it doesn't exactly exhibit humility, it just sounds kind of pathetic. :)

I can't wait until my contract is up with Verizon. I have a Motorola Incredible and I am sick of Android. It's a good phone but I hate the way they load it with apps I do not want. It's my phone so let me delete it. I think once the iPhone hits Verizon, Android will see a big fall in sales. :D

are you being serious? he's insinuating that he isn't a master of anyone. hes being humble...

in earnest, the question itself was retarded, posed by the lady. she asks 'are you the supreme commander of android just like jobs is supreme commander of apple'

it was humbling. and i would say about 99% of individuals liked the reply.

i think you're about the .01% who likes a brilliant but smug CEO. well you have one, so there you go.

we will see. and yeah i hear you with apps being preloaded onto Droid phones. i too will not be surprised if Android sales plummet due to Verizon iPhone. Verizon is just increasing its leverage now that it will have both Android and iPhone. This could be a bad thing for Verizon customers.

A pure google/apple experience trumps that of any carrier branded, bloatware infested device. ARE YOU LISTENING CARRIERS?

ok thanks.

Besides email, internet and media - what's it good for? If you have an iPhone an iPad is rather redundant. If you have a notebook, an iPad is useless.
:confused:That's basically like saying without driving what's a car good for.

The iPad is meant for e-mail, Internet & media. Media includes movies, TV Shows, home movies, music, books, magazines, comics etc.

I hear "it's just a giant iPhone so often"

And i don't really understand why it's an insult.

Since when was giant bad?

Because a big screen tv, is just a giant small tv.

What he said!

And also I hear that a lot too. And whenever I do the person saying it sounds like a complete idiot.

Why have a cell phone when you have a desktop computer? Why have a computer when you already have a cell phone?

Grow up. You haven't even seen the product and you're already dissing it. Are you really that jaded?

Who needs to see it? It's more Android crap. If you've seen one Android device, you've seen em all. This one's a little faster, this one has a better camera, blah blah blah. In the end, it's all crap.

People think of the iPhone first and not the iPod Touch, so their point is still valid.

This ("just a big iPhone/iPod touch") was the favorite claim of people before it was released. But anyone who's ever used both knows that it's not so. Motorola are therefore telling millions of people something that those people know isn't even correct. They're also assuming that calling it a big iPhone is a bad thing. Considering how popular and desirable the iPhone is, it's like saying that a BMW X5 is just a fancy 5 Series.

It's a fairly obvious sort of tactic, with no imagination and poorly thought out reasoning. I bet Motorola's marketing department must have scoured Engadget's comments section for, like, literally minutes to come up with that one.

The problem with this is and all devices like this is, it could be 100 times faster than an iPad, its still not going to be as nicely made and will have no proper integration as what an iPad does with a computer etc.

The last Motorola product I owned was V3i it had to go into the repair shop more than any other gadget i've owned. Then look at what everyone was saying last year "Ohhh motorola droid an iPhone killer" yeah clearly.

Then when the iPod came along in 2001. Sure there where other devices before the iPod, but they sucked and as Jobs said they where almost impossible to use. After the iPod, the competitors rushed to the market and still after almost 10 years no one has beaten the iPod yet. I'd say partly with it being an established brand.

Same with iPhone not the first touch screen phone, but they really did reinvent the phone and look at all the wannabe iPhones out there now.

The same will happen to the iPad as well in the next few years.

Microsoft tried and tried and tried to make a tablet computer, but they could never make one good enough and people still bought laptops/desktop machines. The iPad has solved this problem
