As soon as a viable solution to in/on screen cameras is developed, the notch on the iphone will be gone.

Who will want it back? Do people actually prefer the notch?
I find that hard to believe as I find it hideous myself and cant imagine any aesthetic perfectionist (I'm not one myself) actually liking the notch because it gets rid of the chin.
It doesn't compute.
Will the ipad have a notch?
How about Macs?
Surely if it's a preferred look rather than an ugly stopgap, it would be a welcome edition to any screen?

As for the Motorola, yeah that's a blatant copy.

And its coming soon hopefully!

Actually it does have a notch and no chin, that’s what makes it edge to edge.
Call it what you want, I was responding to someone saying the iPhone X was borderless which it isn't.
The iPhone X is not edge to edge all round.

I guess then people can say the S9 is edge to edge, ie left edge to right edge

No, displays aren’t measured side to side, they are measured diagonally.

The didn’t day borderless they said edge to edge.

Don’t understand what “all around” means.
But since the iPhone X is the only phone without a chin and has notch means it is the only edge to edge display on the market.

When the s9 loses its chin and bezel you can call it edge to edge.

It's kinda funny, my screen goes from edge to edge, it's not like there's something between the edges.
.
The iphone X does too, it goes from the edge of the 3.7mm bezel right to the other 3.7mm bezel..

It's all marketing BS, like the folded oled panel which is just substrate bent over without any oled printed on it at all but if you were to look at the pretty photo put up by Apple, you'd be excused for thinking there a part of the screen tucked under the visible screen.

But whatever...

Not worth pointing out facts to some as they will just argue.

There are phones with no notch and no chin out there but for some reason they can’t be classed as edge to edge as there can only be one edge to edge phone on the market.

The only edge to edge phone on the market has a lower screen to body ratio than those that don’t qualify as edge to edge.

But whatever.

For what’s its worth I think the iPhone X and the note 9 are nice looking phones and both are moving in the direction of being bezeless. They just do it in different ways.

Displays are measured diagonally and only on one axis. That’s where the term edge to edge comes from.

Edge to edge screen.

No notch would be an all display phone or completely bezel-less phone.

The iPhone X has a notch so the screen doesn't go edge to edge

Aren't all phones edge to edge? :p

It's not like there's a banana between the bezel and the screen right?

Great marketing name though, there's folk out there defending the definition of the term to the point of hilarity..

Looks like a better iPhone X with possibly fingerprint scanner and probably half the price. And, the iPhone X stole ideas from Samsung Galaxy phablet and Essential Phone notch.

Just a terrible copy-paste with an ugly chin and notch with no Face recognition sensors. Basically Lenovo (Motorola is owned by Lenovo) being a desperate copy-cat as usual! Of course it would be half the price, since they didn't have to spend a penny on R&D. As for ideas of iPhone X being stoled from Galaxy phones, just lol. Luckily they don't look the same and I have to give Samy a credit for not copying iPhones FINALLY at last! If you are talking about display sizes , these are sizes and sizes are not unique ideas. Apple does (and have always done) other products with various sizes. Someone have to be completely stupid to expect phones display sizes to be unchanged forever. And obviously Apple will continue to experiment and produce different display sizes from what we have now, in a future. Things do change. Some to focus on designing their unique products, others will skip everything and go straight to copy-paste. Like the no shame example on this article.

There are folks saying anything, do common ground is always a good thing.

Those phones have worse compromises than the notch. pop up camera? Something to jam or break? The other has no Face ID. So that is not an Apple to Apple comparison. And no wireless charging, if that’s important.

Don’t think that poster was serious.

will this motorola copy the health dangers of an iPhone as well?

by Hannah Joy on August 18, 2018

A research team swabbed three smartphones, an iPhone 6, a Samsung Galaxy 8 and a Google Pixel -- to test for aerobic bacteria, yeast and mould.

The findings showed that all areas of the phones "harbour at least some quantity of each type of substance".

The screens were the filthiest part of the smartphones, filled with germs which may lead to skin problems and other health issues.

The screens of the three handsets had a combined total of 254.9 colony-forming units per cm2. This means there was an average of 84.9 units on each screen.

"In contrast, a toilet and flush was found to have just 24 units, while an office keyboard and mouse was found to have just five," the report said.

I viewed that as a serious reply since these phones are garnering reviews due to the edge to edge ratio. Except they dont have Face ID wireless charging.

Does the edge to edge ratio improve if you flip the notch to the bottom?

Those were examples of edge to edge screens, with a much higher screen to body ratio than the iphone X.
Everything else about them is kind of irrelevant in this particular discussion.
Sure, the lower bezel on the nex is .6mm bigger than the iPhone X but the rest is much smaller, I think Forbes even said they made the X look dated.
My point is the term edge to edge, in relation to the X in particular, is just basically marketing fluff.
Like the folded oled panel and the accompanying picture.

These are examples of “edge to edge” screens without the same level of electronics. As far as Forbes, imo, the iPhone still is the best looking. And I vote with my $$$.

lol, you're defending the notch? Which was / is the dumbest freaking thing the design world has seen since the invention of diet water?

Think he was replying to your post where you claim Apple copied Samsung with notch.

Your assertion was rather ridiculous.
That’s rather ridiculous - Samsung actually introduced the all-screen phone and Apple “followed” the lead. With the iPhone X a year and a half later. Apple has been known for blantantly rippping off software features from other manufacturers, both on iOS and on MacOS. Let’s not assume that Apple gets to throw the first stone here.

Firstly, Don’t think you can call a phone with all screen if it has bezels, a forehead and a chin

Secondly if Samsung is increasing bezels, wouldn’t that go against your assertion.

Don’t know why you would think that was all screen.

Some posters just enjoy moving the goalposts.
That’s why I posted; I don’t think he was being serious.
