These are examples of “edge to edge” screens without the same level of electronics. As far as Forbes, imo, the iPhone still is the best looking. And I vote with my $$$.

The same level of electronics?
What does that even mean? Seriously..
Would you not think these deserve to be called edge to edge as much as the iphone X deserves to be called the same?

Anyway, good for you and your X.
My point was lost on you but it wasn't to try and dissuade you from liking the iPhone X, which apart from the notch, looks great.

My point was lost on you that these two phones are missing Face id and wireless charging and solve the selfie issue in a unique and worse way to the notch with the benefit of not having all that Face ID stuff get in the way.

Aren't all phones edge to edge? :p

It's not like there's a banana between the bezel and the screen right?

Great marketing name though, there's folk out there defending the definition of the term to the point of hilarity..
Who said anything about phones being edge to edge? I think you are mistaken, people are defending the screen on the iPhone X as being bezel-less or edge to edge, i.e. without any border, it has a notch so not bezel-less/edge to edge. Simple really, even a child would understand.

That wasn't part of the initial...oh don't bother...I forgot how frustratingly obtuse you can be.

Displays are measured diagonally and only on one axis. That’s where the term edge to edge comes from.

Edge to edge screen.

No notch would be an all display phone or completely bezel-less phone.
I think your flogging a dead horse.

How a screen size is measured has nothing to do with the screens relationship to its bezel.
If a screen is not at the edge then it can't be edge to edge nor bezel-less.

Not only did they copy the design, the bastardized it with a hideous front-facing logo. The audacity...

That’s because displays monitors are usually stationary and on one axis, handhelds aren’t

But the term did originate with displays and monitors not phones.

When edge to edge is referenced it’s diagonally speaking relative to the monitor or display.

Hence the term measuring edge to edge.

Samsung’s aren’t edge to edge because of the chin and forehead.

Maybe with the s10.

Here's the thing with design. When everyone is sticking with the same criteria, there is only one direction the design can go. So your device needs a big screen, minimal bezel, thin as possible, contain two cameras, fit in a human hand, and still serve as a phone.

It's the same thing with the auto industry. Between federal regulations, principles of aerodynamics, cost/profit margins, and the functionality everyone demands, all the cars and trucks have really started to look like each other. That doesn't leave much room for innovation.

So until someone decides that a phone doesn't need to look like a phone anymore, we are going to continue down this road.

We're in a trade war with China. Patents don't apply to Chinese companies (Motorola is now a Chinese company, as it was bought out by Lenovo, also a Chinese company) that don't sell product in the U.S. This phone isn't competing with Apple in the U.S., just everywhere else where U.S. patents don't apply. And you can bet that Apple's phone prices will skyrocket in China, so products like this will outsell Apple's versions.

aha...
But I thought global companies have world-wide patents. So this Motorola won't be able to sell in Germany for example.
Sad to hear Motorola is Chinese now. I always felt Motorola is an "American" thing with deep history in wireless cellphone technology. Its like hearing Disney is Russian now.

But Motorola are owned by a Chinese company now.
You're right. Not just Motorola, some of the top brands of the 80s and 90s (Sharp, Panasonic, JVC) sold their name or parts of their business to lower Chinese companies. There was a time Sharp for example was the top TV, now it's just aweful

This is another lie. Steve Jobs clearly said they not only invented multitouch, but then also followed up with 'boy have we patented it'. Proof right here, skip to 5:35

[doublepost=1534656782][/doublepost]

Wrong.

Same tech, released before Apple did anything...... tell us again how that 'sucked' and was invented by Apple anyway.
They patented their version of multi-touch, which maybe isn't the absolute God's truth as they didn't invent multi-touch, but they improved enough on it to get a patent.

What in God's earth are you talking about man, the original post says Ive designs for the entire smartphone industry, I disagree saying the galaxy range are different. The end!! Read properly next time before wasting my time!!

You said that Samsung is the biggest player in the game? How so? I understand that the galaxy line does look different. But what does the galaxy note have to do with a Motorola phone copying the iPhone X. I took your comment as Apple can’t innovate by saying that Samsung has stuck with their own design. Then you threw in the design of the iPhone 8 and x. The point is many android companies are copying apples design but in the same breath the android loyalists will say that Apple can’t innovate. You can’t have it both ways.

Well that's a a good thing for you then.

Will you be upset when the notch disappears?

The Note 5 and 7 look the same as the Note 8 and 9?
The meaning of the word same has morphed recently....
maxresdefault.jpg
You just proved my point. The note 2-7 all look the same with slightly smaller bezels each upgrade. The 8-9 lost the home button, but keep the same design aesthetic.

I think the Moto P30 phone is a huge copy of the iPhone x.
But it does go to show that the FPS can be put on the back where the logo is. I wish Apple had done the same with the x and put TouchID where the Apple logo is
At the back, the P30 features a dual-lens camera setup in a vertical orientation much like the iPhone X, and it replaces the Apple logo with a Motorola logo that doubles as a fingerprint sensor.

It gets worse when you flip them over.

After 4 years the designs are incredibly dated,
Especially in tech. Must be why sales are so low.

You seriously think the iPhone 5s looks like the 6 plus. That’s weird.

You want to compare the last 4 years of iPhones?

Strangely missing from your first picture.

strangely how you have blinders on......i edited to show this year as well. Then the iPhone 6s WAS within the last for years!

I have blinders?
You just compared the iPhone 5s to the 6 plus claiming thy looked identical.

Not much of a point there.

Care to post the last 4 years of iPhones?

Because that’s what I did with the galaxy note.
Completely dated design.

Galaxy note 5 -galaxy note 9

Again care to post
The iPhone 6s to iPhone Xsplus?

Don’t think you would, because it would kind of disapprove your ridiculous assertion.
