Well, that hurt!!

Yeah, I saw his tweet a couple of days ago and it kinda stuck.
It’s a good statement, for sure!!

Looks like a better iPhone X with possibly fingerprint scanner and probably half the price. And, the iPhone X stole ideas from Samsung Galaxy phablet and Essential Phone notch.

You do realize that development of a new smartphone, at least at Apple, takes at least a year, right? They are already working on the next generation iPhone that we won't see until September 2019! So to claim that iPhone X "stole" the notch from the Essential Phone is crazy. People have been demanding Apple create an edge-to-edge display for years, but features like the front-facing camera can not be dropped, so make that part take up as least space as possible, hence a notch. It's pure logic.

Essential Phone — released May 30, 2017
iPhone X — announced September 12, 2017

There's no way between May and September (~3 months), they suddenly copied the design.

Now, back on topic... Motorola has officially lost my respect. I expected way better from them than to copy a competitor's phone in so many ways, including the interface!

This is great news, it means the notch is less of a differentiator now and Apple will need to find some other design to differentiate the iPhone, hopefully that means the notch will be gone in the not so distant future?

They aren’t Motorola anymore they are Lenovo.

Some people dare to differ... I got attacked by notches, I can’t see any other future but with notches... we seem to be doomed :D

It a more than just development Apple applied for the patent on the iPhone X back in 2016
From a previous post.

How can Apple steal ideas if they patented the notch before the essential phone was even a thing. Your making things up again.

Needless to say, the X leaks had been already happening even before 2017! We all already knew it was coming with the notch, so Essential Phone most likely stole the X design to begin with.

A little perspective ... Apple has employed numerous capitalist tricks (price gouging, feature scarcity) and has benefitted to the tune of a trillion dollars. Copying competitors is just one more trick, and when Apple leaves a market for a more attainable iPhone X, someone just might try to fill it.

Folks here on this site prize originality higher on the captialist scale, but when something sells it proves it meets a marketplace need. Let's see if Moto is clever enough to capture sales. As Apple has proven for years, and as many Apple fans have pointed out (especially with the prior MBP update), sales are all that matter.

Well, at least iPhones have Siri...

Just kidding!!

Shame Motorola couldn’t even bother to innovate. IPhone X design is good, but not fantastic. I hope Apple sues the hell out of them.

Did Apple copyright the notch? Or that wallpaper style? The iPhone X design is pretty generic looking, which was part of its allure, being very minimalist. I'm not certain what identifying characteristics Apple could show to prove that it was copied. When Samsung was sued, the software look (grid of apps) was used to prove it copied Apple.

It would be so interesting to know how the internal review process for those designs works. Do the „designers“ suggest this as their designs to the managers who then approve it? Or do the managers decide beforehand that they are going to release a phone that unknowing customers are supposed to accidentally buy instead of an iPhone? I‘d really like to know that. Either way, they should be ashamed of themselves.
