"Apple Blatantly Copies ..."

& let their Readers fill in the rest !

AAPL has a long history of copying others.

They will, in-fact, very-likely announce a new app that is a near-copy of an existing app, that has been Off
the Radar of most, but should NOT have been.

If there are so many blatant copies, what are some of them? I can’t think of instances where apple copypastes an entire design.

Kind of off topic...

This makes me even more excited for the “X Plus” that’s supposedly coming out next month.

Motorola's latest P30 smartphone is making headlines this week, but not for an impressive feature set or a unique design. As it turns out, Motorola has opted to copy the design of the iPhone X, resulting in an Android smartphone that's nearly identical to Apple's flagship device.

The P30, which features a 6.2-inch display, is by far the most iPhone X-like Android smartphone that we've seen yet, with a frontal design that includes rounded corners, a notch that's similar to the iPhone X notch in size and shape, and an edge-to-edge design. There's a small bezel at the bottom, which is the only feature that distinguishes the P30 from the iPhone X.

At the back, the P30 features a dual-lens camera setup in a vertical orientation much like the iPhone X, and it replaces the Apple logo with a Motorola logo that doubles as a fingerprint sensor. The colorful metallic body of the device is reminiscent of the Huawei P20, making the rear of the smartphone look like a P20/iPhone X hybrid.

Black and white versions look a little more like the iPhone X, and Motorola has even been marketing the device with iPhone-style wallpapers.

Motorola's P30 is available in China and isn't being distributed in the United States just yet, and while it has an iPhone X-style design, it is positioned as a mid-range device that's more affordable, perhaps attempting to lure customers who want the iPhone X look but aren't able to shell out $1,000.

Inside the Motorola P30, there's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chip, 6GB RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 3,000mAh battery. The two rear cameras feature 5 and 16-megapixel sensors while there's a 12-megapixel front-facing camera. Despite the notch, there's no front-facing facial recognition system.

As The Verge humorously pointed out, the P30 looks so similar to the iPhone X that when doing a Google image search based on the P30, Google guesses that it's an iPhone X.

Since the iPhone X launched last November, many Android smartphone makers have adopted the notched design to allow for maximum screen space to compete with the iPhone lineup. Smartphones from manufacturers that include LG, Leagoo, Huawei, OnePlus, Asus, Vivo, Oppo, and others have adopted the notch design. Even Google is set to copy the iPhone X's notch with the upcoming Google Pixel 3 XL, based on leaked images.

Apple is planning to unveil three additional smartphones that use the notch design introduced with the iPhone X, and we're just a few weeks away from their debut. Based on rumors, we can count on a second-generation 5.8-inch iPhone X with an OLED display, a larger-screened 6.5-inch OLED iPhone that can be thought of as an "iPhone X Plus," and a 6.1-inch device with an LCD display and a lower price tag.

All three will feature an edge-to-edge display with a notch that houses a TrueDepth camera system, doing away with the Home button in the iPhone lineup. Apple is expected to introduce the new 2018 iPhone lineup right around the second week of September, perhaps on September 11 or September 12.

I see this story a lot, seems to be very popular but I don't get it. Seems to be grasping at straws. They copied the iPhone X except... it has a chin...and a Motorola logo...and a fingerprint sensor on the rear...and the back looks like a completely different other phone...and it's got a 6.2" instead of 5.8" screen...etc. My god, I could pick any number of phones out there and say they "blatantly copied" Apple except for a bunch of things where they... didn't.

Looks similar to me by the pictures. Maybe it's the wallpaper.o_O

Yep, the wallpaper taking up most of the phone sure as heck makes it look like the X. If I put that screen saver on any other notched phone it would be pretty close as well. Pretty much anything with 4 sides and a notch is going to get accused of copying Apple. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

Looks like a better iPhone X with possibly fingerprint scanner and probably half the price. And, the iPhone X stole ideas from Samsung Galaxy phablet and Essential Phone notch.

The essential phone came long after rumors of a notch. No freaking way Apple “stole” that. At least get your timelines right if you’re going to make absurd claims.

I disagree, I like the notch, maybe it’s the curved edges or the absence of a chin. But I like the notch on the iPhone X, the only complaint I have is I find it too small for me, which will be rectified with the iPhone Xplus.

I don’t think I would have liked the notch without the curved edges.

There are a bunch of rabid one plus 6 fans that would also disagree with you in regards to the notch, not just iPhone X users.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. With that said I don't think anyone would disagree that having no notch with minimal bezels on each edge is the end game here and certainly will look better then a notched phone. I will give Apple one thing, they at least use the notch to house an awesome Face ID system which makes it worth it.

Finally agree on something.

I think we will see clamshell smartphones with flexible displays before someone figures out a way to make the sensors and camera invisible on a display.

I thought Motorola was a respectable company. Have they been bought out by the Chinese?

I think the notch is a bad design choice...but I think copying it is even dumber.
I agree but more with copying it without actually putting something worthwhile in the notch. I think the Notch is incredibly ugly but if it means having a great biometric option like FaceId then it makes sense. All the companies that are copying it just to make it look like the iPhone are just desperate, its a big reason i'm holding a Samsung phone in my hand as they have not gone down the notch route and are keeping their identity.

That differentiation theory sounds so much more likely than Apple just wanting to waste as little screen space as possible...

Oh really? So why does Apple forbid developers from masking the notch on their apps? Apple wants that notch visible no matter watch to differentiate for marketting purposes.

KMJ, that person you quoted is just trolling. There is zero fact or credibility to their post.

As for notches, most of the millions of people who use iPhone X's don't notice or care about the notch. They wouldn't know what it is if you asked them. It's mainly something that gets hashed around by people on Internet forums.

I find it hysterically funny that they are not only copying Apple's low-selling iPhone X, but they're removing FACE ID and adding back the Home Button!

HO HO HO! :D
It’s probably more so to be inline with Apple 2018, where all the 2018 iPhones are rumoured to all have the x notch design.

Do you understand the actual reason these companies copy the iPhone design? Its not because the iPhone X design is something special. They copy it because Apple are the most recognised brand when it comes to phones, Apple could release the worst looking phone in history and others would still copy it.
Maybe it is exactly what you write... The iPhone X is ugly. It’s just going for the extreme idea of a near to bezel-less screen. To me it is claustrophobic to use, as I am forced to stare at the screen for any interaction. As a user, I experienced no practical advantage, and it is over engineered: engineered for the sake of engineering.

Meanwhile ios is not dramatically improving, and Apple can be very happy no others take the challenge to really beat them on that.

The commercial idea is: copy the looks, cause people want others to look at their phone. They want status, no essence of experience. They actually want something they cannot have. They want to look like they have what they don’t have. They want to follow in other peoples footsteps. They want whatever the trend dictates them to want.

Besides copying an ugly design, it’s motivated by an idiotic logic to copy it. It’s slapstick humor for sarcastic beings. Human behaviour...jeezz...

This is a result of our poor legal system when it comes to technical issues. Started with Microsoft, patient trolls, now we have Samsung and Motorola. I see no help either.

And has:

- A bottom bezel, meaning the notch has no aesthetic value as that was the trade off to get an edge-to-edge display

- No facial recognition, meaning the notch has no practical value as that was the trade off for Face ID

So basically, no use whatsoever, other than to look like an iPhone X. Stuff like this is such a flagrant rip-off. I don’t know how they get away with it.
So what you say is since the iPhone 8 has a bottom bezel the size of Ives forehead didn't need the top bezel,(based on your logic for bezels) right? right?
What nonsense is that? even if you have bottom bezel the front camera ,sensors etc. are on the top side of the phones you need a bezel on the top or a notch for that matter.

Shame on Motorola, I'd expect it from some cheap Chinese knock off, not Motorola, aka the company that invented the freakin cellphone! My how the mighty has fallen
