Well, I tried FF3 for a little while, but there are some things that will make me stick with Safari:

1- When I drag a tab in FF3 it doesn't turn into a new window like in Safari and I really use this very often.

2- There's no resizable text boxes like in Safari

3- Even with the "native look and feel" it's kinda ugly. The top part is a mess, the buttons don't look very good, and the whole thing takes quite more screen space then Safari...

The only advantage I had with Firefox was PicLens, but I just saw that the new version now supports Safari 3. ;)
piclens only support safari 3.0.4, and does not offer most important 3D wall function.

2. resizeable texbox is an invention initially from an addon for firefox, apple copied it for safari, if you want to use that word. You can easily install that addon for firefox.

3. there is always theme you can install for firefox, including safari theme

have been trying to download for hours... totally blocked... but whatevs, i kinda hate firefox... even though safari could defo learn/implement from some of firefox's features, and even though the flash plugin in safari leaks memory and stalls on initialization, flash still displays proper FPS in safari (and IE7) while it's lagged in firefox... i still prefer safari.

I saw this feature touted on the Firefox 3 page:

But, I can't seem to get it to work... is that working for other people?

i couldnt find it either at first but then i realized its not turned on by default. go to preferences->advanced->general tab->accessibility and choose "search for text when i start typing".

I am still going to use Safari 3.1 as my browser. :)
Is Safari 3.1 still faster than Firefox 3 or has Firefox 3 has caught up to it?

I'm back to 2.0.14

If I can view my iWeb '08 site in FF2, IE6, IE7, Opera 9.5 and Safari 3.1.1, I think the blame for FF3 not showing iWeb photo gallery pages falls on Mozilla and FF3.

i <3 Safari

the only reasons I ever used a different browser, was Flock for the Facebook (and social bar in general) for fast updates, or FireFox for Hotmail access. Since Hotmail is shittay on Safari.

Since then I got Safari 4 (Facebook as a seperate web application kicks ass) and Gmail.

Thus no need for FireFox. The speed is nice, but we'll see where a day of testing gets me. :) I have a 4 hour IT class coming up in about an hour or so...and since it's so close to summer vacation (and our marks are already final) we won't be doing much. 4 hours of testing on my favourite sites!! :D

Indeed, Safari still has a more "native" i.e. snappier feel. Who cares about features when the thing is slower to begin with? On WinXP, when I had it before switching, I would only use FF. Way better than IE. Safari on Windows wasn't available at the time...

Ouch, so much for FF3. My website is done in iWeb '08 and sure enough it will not work in FF3. Until that is fixed I will be going back to FF2.

Heck of a slap in the face.

hmmm. My website was also created with iWeb 08...no problems with FF3.

So far..FF3 is FAST. Clearly faster than Safari.

Mmm, it's nice - on both my Vista PC and my Tiger iBook. A little bit slower to start up than version 2, but as the operating systems optimise the application performance, it'll pick up.

Are you looking at any photo album pages or just plain pages. My photo pages are the ones that fail to show the albums. Non-photo album pages work fine.

It's still firefox in all of its bad font glory.
I came across a really ugly bug in the first 30 seconds of using it too.
I clicked the zoom button once to make the window full screen and then I hit it again, and instead of going back to the size I had it it went to this:

EDIT: and of course it still can't pass the acid3 test. Although neither does the current build of safari, both the nightly webkit build and safari 4 can.

Safari 4 hits 100/100 on ACID3 test FF3 I could only get 74/100 this will be a big deal for web developers.

No, that's YOUR fault.

:p

How so? Because I used iWeb? Sure, it may not be as good as some others, but it's a heck of a lot easier to use. I used Dreamweaver for years on my old PC and iWeb's simplicity and ease of making album pages made the switch a simple choice.

I don't see why the inability of FF3 to display the photo album pages is MY fault when all those other browsers can do it fine, even the previous FF2.

I still am going to stick with Webkit/Safari 4, it is just faster and better feeling.

But if you are running FF2 or IE then the upgrade to FF3 is great.

Ok, so i was trying to download the browser as soon as I had a chance on my girlfriends ibook G3, and i looked (obviously not hard enough) for the system requirements and didnt see anything. I downloaded, and replaced the old FF 2, but of course it does not work on Mac OSX 10.3. What I dont like, is it downloaded and installed with no problem, but would not open when launched, as if it was a sneaky way for Mozilla to continue going for the guinness world record for downloads. But, now i can not find a single site that still has FF 2 for downloads. Can someone please help me find a download for the older Firefox? thank you.

I had this same problem on my nephew's eMac earlier.

One thing that I have noticed a lot lately with Safari is that it will often hang when I try loading web pages. I thought that this was a connection issue, but FF3 does not have this problem. The previous post that I made in this thread was first attempted on Safari, but it hanged. I tried it on FF3 and it went through immediately. The Safari page was still trying to load.
