I'm confused... I can see how it helps your head and neck, ergonomically... but how the heck do you type on the laptop when it's on this thing?

LOVE the mStand, it's been a great purchase.

I now have a uMBP and the screen tilts back a lot further than my last non-unibody macbookpro which means I don't need to prop up the front of the mStand to get the right viewing angle at my standup desk. Also, since getting the uMBP, I can use a displayport cable instead of DVI so now ALL of the cables I connect to my laptop all run through the grommet underneath instead of having that big DVI cable running amok. :)

I'm completely confused. Why don't you guys just buy an iMac?

I do, that would be cool man. I want to see what it looks like before I buy! :D

Can you take a pic with the 13" on the m stand, while plugged into the external? That's the exact set up I want to build.

Sure...I'll take one in a bit.

Do you are if it's from my iPhone? :)

I've wondered about this. Just how far does the screen tilt back? (got any side-view pics? ;))

I can take some tonight for you, can probably swing by my parents house and compare to a pre-unibody MacBook Pro - like my old one - as well.

you try using an imac at the local coffee shop, the park, by the pool, or carting it to and from work everyday.

Congratz on your Mstand purchase! I purchased one from another member on these forums, hopefully it gets here soon! I'll be using it beside a 20" ACD.

It's been 3 weeks since I started this thread, now when I'm at my desk I can't work without it anymore. It's solid enough to type using the mbp keyboard, but I don't recommend that because it puts too much pressure on your elbows. If you get any stand you really SHOULD be using external keyboard and mouse.

to the OP , what mouse is that an is it bluetooth

I use the Logitech VX, I've had it for a few years. It's not Bluetooth, it's RF, and has a USB receiver. I don't like the mighty mouse, and I can't find a good blue tooth mouse, and I've heard bluetooth lags.

I usually choose form over function, I was going to get an Apple keyboard but instead I bought a Logitech Wave keyboard. It's not the most attractive keyboard in the world, nor does it use very high quality plastics, but it's the most comfortable keyboard I've ever laid my hands on. That big soft wrist rest makes a huge difference. I can type on this thing for hours without getting tired. It also has Option and Command buttons properly labeled, if you install Logitech's SetPoint software they work correctly, and you can program all those programmable keys, and I can also program the extra keys on my VX mouse with the same software.

I've also hacked my mstand a bit by superglueing a 7 port Belkin USB hub under the laptop because the keyboard and mouse take up both of the MBP's usb ports. It's also got bright blue LEDs... Some of you will argue that I've ruined the look, but I like it..

I can push the keyboard under the mstand when it's not in use, so it doesn't really take up space.

I've been looking at this stand and have a question...

With the laptop leaning forward on the stand and the display open, wouldn't this put additional stress on the hinges and loosen them over time?

I've had a similiar problem with a previous laptop and the hinges giving in over time because I used the laptop on my laptop in bed.

Would love to hear some input about this.

Anyone? My local frys sells this stand and I was hoping to pick it up tonight but wanted to get some feedback on my questions before I did.

Thanks.

That looks awesome!! Do you know if they have a red-LED usb hub?

very interesting, nice stand too.

is it smooth under the notebook ?

like rubber?

there are four rubber pads to protect the notebook. See the image attached below:

I don't see why it would. I had a look at my laptop hinges and they are very stiff and sturdy. If you were constantly opening and closing them it might weaken them but on the mStand my screen hardly gets touched. In the angle that my screen is open I don't think there is anymore pressure on the screen than when using it normally.

How much cooler does this keep your MB?

Well, that plus doing something about all those Post It notes all over your wall!! ;)

I have become quite attached to my Post It notes, and they keep up the illusion that I am busy, ;)

The mstand is one nice piece of aluminum.

Here's a couple shots of my setups. The black bezeled notebook is the Macbook Pro 13"

I'll take shots tomorrow with a real camera.

Very clean desktop. Zen heaven.

Very jealous of your ACD, I would love to get one but they are so $$$$.

The 17 is too heavy for the m-stand

If you open the lid the magnet is so strong it lifts the notebook off the stand because of the flex.

If you type on the internal keyboard, it bounces up and down and is basically useless.

So yes if you have an external keyboard and mouse it's great.

And I am sure that's how most people use it.

Looks great.

I can absolutely see the benefit of the Mstand if you have a larger screen laptop (15.4 - 17) and use this in place of an external monitor. But I don't quite get the purpose of it if you already have an external monitor.

I use my 17" MBP next to my 23" ACD
It is a great setup similar to the pics above

Wireless mouse and keyboard

Works great, looks great
What's not to love about it?

It puts the laptop screen in a more ergonomic position to use in a dual display setup.

How come this sells for so much more than the griffin elevator? Granted it's more stylish but surely it does the same job?

You don't sell a product for what it is worth, but for the price that the market will bear.

For the record though it looks as though the manufacturing costs incurred would have been higher for the mstand than the elevator.
