i just received mine from newegg today and so far its been great. it has also lowered the temp of my computer and the fans run lower as well. even though its not adjustable, the new mbp 13 inch screen can open pretty far so i think it would fit everyone's needs.

How much cooler does this keep your MB?

Well I'm using it with my PowerBook G4 and having the laptop on my table I was getting 51ºC (Bottom CPU) according to iStat with the PowerBook on the mStand I'm getting the same results so at least for me it's not doing anything to help lower the internal temp but it does prevent the heat from possibly damaging my table surface as the laptop is no longer in close contact with the table.

This is so worthless! 50 bucks for a chunk of aluminum to hold your laptop? They are designed to just sit on your desk!

But then why am I so tempted to buy one!??!?!!?! DAMN YOU MACFORUMS!

Got mine today :D That's iPhone 3GS quality for ya... :(

This thing looks great... just one question though:

Anyone who is short (around 5'2") use it? Is it too high? Have you compensated some how?

Would like to get one but don't want to find that it is way to high and just as uncomfortable as having the laptop directly on my desk.

hey i think it depends on how high your desk is as well. i am 5'7" but its great for me since my chair is adjustable, and with the new mbp's, the screen can open pretty far. i think it should be fine. i guess a lot of people use this stand and have a display, but i did the opposite. i got rid of my display, and just use the mbp with the keyboard at an angle and it works great! good luck.

I can absolutely see the benefit of the Mstand if you have a larger screen laptop (15.4 - 17) and use this in place of an external monitor. But I don't quite get the purpose of it if you already have an external monitor.

The purpose is to run both monitors and give yourself more working space. I do this at work and it is much more productive.

I do as well... 17" MBP and 23" ACD
The screen real estate is very nice
Once you get used to it... you will wonder how you did without it

I keep seeing you post this setup and your making it harder for me to get what I should and not what I want, a Wacom Cintiq  I say this because I have a tablet and to have a second screen would work/look sweet! Yet the Cintiq could serve as both…too many questions, too many wants

Hey guys, will mStand be good for an early 2008 MBP since the screen of those cannot be bent backwards that much?

For example, I recently bought Logitech Alto Express, but found it useless for my MBP, unless I raised the front part of the stand for about 1.5 inch...

No worries...The Mstand works flawlessly on the early 2008 MBP's. In fact, they were made around the original MBP design.

I ordered an mstand on Friday which should be here tomorrow to sit next to a new external monitor - which should also be here tomorrow! :D

I disagree with the review, but it is personal preference

The only way to know is to try it yourself

I agree, but in my case I'd have to order this stand online because they don't sell it around here, so it'd be a pain in the ass if it turned out not to suit my MBP...

Btw, what if I pushed the lid further back on my early 2008 MBP - would it break or something?

I have a small request for someone with a MBP & mStand: could you please measure how much exactly is the height from your table to the tip of your open MBP on mStand?

Thanks in advance!

I can do it for you sure, but which part of the MBP exactly do you want measurements to? I am not clear in your explanation...

Picked up one of these a few weeks ago and while its not the cheapest out there, I'm glad I bought it as its a great piece of kit and it really does feel like a substantial piece of metal, the quality is obvious.

No problems here with max viewing angle either and that's on a uMB with a glossy screen.

Oh, the way I meant it was just how high is it from your desk to the top of your open MBP lid (screen) on mStand...

And while you're at it, could you as well measure how high is it up in the front? (Please refer to the pics to see what I'm talking about)

Thanks!

The person that wrote this review is using the old MBP design, a design that was flawed by hinges that did not allow the screen to tilt back very far. The current MBP (unibody) design allows for the screen to be tilted back much further.

Yes, I am aware of that, but I'm using an Early 2008 MBP myself, that's why I was and still am concerned.
