It is interesting though that the text says
Review units were European models, US models have this. Go figure.
Anyway, it was bad form for Samsung to not warn the reviewers. Why not be extra careful so they get excellent reviews? It's their own fault for spoiling the party. Also, some review units broke without removing the foil. This can happen, but altogether it's not nice PR. Next time, better check out the units before giving them to the reviewers.

Is ANYONE shocked by this? The media and those wishing to see Apple fail shout from the rooftops the moment a few iPhones in a million have a glitch. Apple would NEVER release something so easy to fail so widely though. That’s why it’s just a gimmick that I doubt will catch on any time soon. No point being first to market with something so big and bulky and expensive that no one wants in the first place... only for a high number of them to then break on use!

The entire folding phone development is just another extreme case of hypocrisy when it comes to Android users.

They charge 1000$ for the folding feature. One thousand dollars. Just for this feature. And for them it is ok and it is acceptable because it is "amazing technology" somehow.

This is hypocrisy 101. ANd the news that report that this amazing technology is breaking apart after a few days of use is hilarious.

I honestly dont get how some people can bash apple for high prices and just be ok with a charge of 1000$ for a single feature. I just dont. If they crave innovation why are they bashing Face ID? Oh yeah it is because this is somehow nothing new, because their phones have iris scanner (lol) since 1952 apparently. Because you know Iris scanner is the exact same technology and innovation as Face Id.

I hate hypocrites and it seems that more and more android users lately are nothing but hypocrites. Especially the samsung ones.

Wanna talk about removable batteries? Wanna talk about prices? Wanna talk about headphone jacks?

The folding failure is nothing but further confirmation that Samsung wants to be the first no matter if the product is sub par or downright laughable.

Apple on the other hand focuses more on releasing stuff that actually do what they are supposed to.

PS: Obviously with this post I am not implying that everything Samsung designs is flawed or that the company doesnt actually innovate. They do. In spades. And ofcourse apple has released sub par services and products sometimes. But I just cant stand the hypocrisy. A price of 1000$ for a feature is ok if it is Samsung, but imagine if in a parallel universe apple released this very phone and charged it exactly like Samsung. Just imagine the nuclear meltdown on the internet. But now its all rainbows and butterflies....

I've only just been able to stop myself laughing.

THIS IS WHY WE BUY APPLE BECAUSE THEY DON'T RUSH CRAP TO THE MARKET

This is an epic fail waiting to happen, it's their battery gate for 2019.

There are just so may pitfalls to the idea of a foldable screen, just because you can make a cool flexible display doesn't mean that you should incorporate it into such a device.

Folding a screen is kind of a stupid idea in the first place. Maybe this will make it all go away.
where do you want tech to go in 20-40 years?
This is innovation at its finest sorry but it is. Sure there will be issues with new products but at least a tech company is trying and did push tech to a new level with these and selling them. So no its not a stupid idea in the least.

Let me guess you still think apple should bring back the 4" phones and keep them that size for the next 20 years...

What is apple doing to push the boundary of tech? Absolutely nothing

This was NOT on any of the review units send by Samsung. This has been repeated again and again, but people keep showing this picture.

I will repeat and show this picture too.

YOU BUY APPLE BECAUSE WHEN YOU HAVE A BENT IPAD, YOU KNOW APPLE WANTED IT THAT WAY not a design flaw.

OR A KEYBOARD THAT FAILS UNDER NORMAL USAGE is not a design flaw.

Now Apple statement about "Slight bends within this spec " and people defending Apple is one thing that I cannot stop laughingabout :D.

Fact is, no company is immune to flaws, when a flaw happens is how you respond thatmakes the difference, Apple droppet the "within specs" and the "keyboard has no issue", will see how Samsung handles this.

The next process would be to make a number of 'review' samples, given to well known tech reviewers to see how they handle in the 'real world', but it would seem these 'review' samples are not holding out very well.

Look at Apples Airpower, they did exactly the same, got to the stage of review samples, found units still got very hot, apple engineers could not solve the issue so apple scrapped the complete project. Could this be the same for Samsung with the foldable phone.
Nope. Galaxy Fold release date is April 26 in US May 3 in Europe. It's already in supply chain. Also, there were no functional AirPower units on display or in reviewers hands. Apple actually did good with AirPower. They failed with those bended iPads that are supposed to be within spec. Bad form of Apple.

So its safe to say that the supply chain units are identical to the review units. Buckle up Samsung, its gonna be a hell of a ride!

No firmware updates are gonna fix a peeling/bulging screen.

They can't even release a wireless charging pad...

Thats because they were not trying to create the typical wireless charger, just like they werent trying to create a gimmick facial scanner, or an average fingerprint scanner and so on and so forth.

But daft people like Samsung folk tend to think that Iris Scanner is just the same as Face ID so there is no real surprise that they think Airpower was nothing but an attempt to create your average wireless charger....

None of my Apple devices bend because I don't sit on them or try to bend them like the idiots who bought them did.

Thank you for the laughter :D.... no really :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D.

EDIT:
Even Apple admitted it is not a user issue as it is "within specs" :D.

Critisism is absolutely ok, but bashing them is not really necessary.

It’s ok, if you re-read my comments (and perhaps a 3rd time to be sure!), you’ll notice I’m criticising the seemingly poorly produced product. But if I did choose to criticise (“bash”) Sammy, I wouldn’t worry too much as I’m pretty sure they’ll be just fine ;)

One would expect that Samsung be held to the same standards as Apple, if not stricter, given how so many “experts” here claim that Samsung is a leader in hardware and innovation.

Leaders should be held to a higher standard. The problem is various companies are said to be outperforming Apple in certain areas and yet they don't end up being judged by the same high standards applied to Apple. Which strikes me as ironic, if not outright hypocritical.

Airpower has over 2000 comments for a product that was never realised. Samsung releasing a clearly defective product that potentially renders the entire device useless is met with indifference.

Just double standards all around. And that’s why Samsung will never be a leader in my book, as long as people refuse to hold them to the same standards that Apple is.
It’s an apple forum, makes sense that an apple product gets more comments.

Its not nonsense, its factual. They are the first to bring this product to the market, you can talk about the tasteless marketing off Samsung but that does not alter the fact that Samsung is innovating, it just does not fit your narrative. That also has nothing to do with this entire post, not sure if you are capable of conversing in this post.

But then again the internet is taken over by low educated plebs, so i will get some none-arguments back because no-one wants to be willing to listen to other peoples opinions especially if they are fact driven..

Also a alarming amount of people are very very sensitive to these very simple marketing techniques, that they get riled up from them, its like talking to people without any sense. Tasteless but very practical techniques to get people on a pedestal apparently.

Let me put it this way, Samsung is paving the way for hopefully Apple picking up this technique when its fully fleshed out..

But for now Apple let apple struggle on with their butterfly keyboards as that seems to be a big task for the current Apple already. Its the sad truth.

I am excited for new innovations, if they come from Apple, Samsung or someone else, they show a potential future i want to be part off.

Seriously, Samsung is chasing up the wrong tree.

Apple isn’t doing a foldable phone because they don’t need to. That function (a larger display) is going to be fulfilled with a pair of AR glasses.

By this time next year Apple will possibly have released Glasses .. a clear path forward for nextgen UI.

Other device manufacturers will be nowhere with a similar wearable device.

And their foldable screen path will be dead.

You heard it here first.

Apple isn’t doing a foldable phone because they don’t need to.

You definitely can’t say that without certainty. Apple may never *release* a foldable iPhone, but they have filed a patent for one back last October (So the experimentation phase is relevant). Rather they choose to release a foldable smart phone or not, no one knows. But you make the claim that Apple ‘isn’t doing a foldable phone’, when you yourself don’t know that. In some respects, it’s likely the complete opposite of what they choose to release or they believe has maturity for a widespread release.

It’s not the quantity, but the quality (or the lack thereof).

This whole galaxy fold issue is happening precisely because Samsung rushed to be first with a price of tech that was clearly nowhere near ready for adoption.

Not at all dissimilar with the current situation here at Macrumours where we have critics rushing to be the first to hate on any piece of Apple news, and it shows as the comments on the first few pages are usually devoid of any substance whatsoever. Not surprising, because it takes time to digest the news and craft an informed and well-reasoned opinion.

Now you see the people who roasted Apple for not releasing AirPower rush to defend Samsung for releasing a clearly faulty product. But hey, it folds!

People love an underdog story, love to bash Apple, and they see nothing hypocritical with putting Samsung on the same pedestal as Apple until it is time to grade their products.

What's the solution? The bar needs to be raised for companies not named Apple. If a company is said to be outpacing Apple, that company deserves to have a bull's-eye placed on its back.

Until then, Samsung is no leader.

Well apparently although it might not have been in the box Samsung warned the reviews not remove the top layer. This is a tweet from an editor at android central

Samsung haven’t shipped the device yet so they still have time to pull it it they are indeed defective. It’s only in the hands of reviewers. AirPower was potentially dangerous if it was overheating.

No AirPower was not an ordinary charger, however the galaxy fold is also not an ordinary smartphone.

Gimmick. Not ready for mass production/consumption. When you’re selling a phone that costs close to 2 grand (more than a decent laptop) you send your best quality units to the tech media for review, not prototypes or pre production units. Unless you indicate the units are as such.

If the protective film was not supposed to be removed, it should have been abundantly clear to the end user. Who reads instructions when unboxing a new tech toy? Not saying it’s right, but the human interaction IS part of the engineering process.

Flop bringing something genuinely useful to market. People might understand. Hey, they tried something new, blah blah blah.

Bring the tech equivalent of the rainbow tail on a My Little Pony, make a galactic failure of it, and expect to get skewered in the media. This whole folding phone thing is totally pointless. To make a mess of it is just 10 times worse.

I mean, shiet. Even the Newton tried to do something useful and was a tech flop. This is just a folding phone with an easily busted screen.

Samsung should stick to what it’s at least adequate at. Cloning Apple. They stink on ice at doing new things...

Not interested in Samsung at all (nor the fold, a concept I really do not understand), I buy Xiaomi (as long as they keep producing great products).

That's the thing, if you do not like some product, go buy the competitor...

I am not pro or against any company, they are company, dont' understand apologist (from any side) and do not understant fanboy (again ...no matter wich side).

And I quote myself:
"Fact is, no company is immune to flaws, when a flaw happens is how you respond that makes the difference, Apple dropped the "within specs" and the "keyboard has no issue", will see how Samsung handles this."

2000$ or 1$ the "within specs" is something shameful from ANY COMPANY.

P.S. we can agree to disagree.
