WELL CALL ME SHOCKED!!!!!! What did people expect from what is nothing more than an alpha or beta tech demo of a product. Yet "Apple is doomed" if Tim Cook so much as blows a fart in public.

I mean, isn't this exactly what you'd think would happen if you fold a freakin' screen in half? I still don't see the appeal even if it's working.
what? you don't see the appeal of an extremely fat phone that won't fit in your pocket but that can be unfolded into an extremely small tablet/large phablet that has a crease in the middle/.

Hmmm. If by "blow a fart" you mean raise prices gratuitously, give delusional guidance, and then fail to meet it...yeah that's quite a fart.

I love how Apple is getting all the free R&D from Samsung. I dislike Apple on so many aspects but their ability to sit back and watch people fail, then go for the kill just amazes me.

This is up there with the long list of samsung products no one ever asked for.

I don’t think, this has hit the stock price of Samsung, yet:

https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/005930.KS?ltr=1

Samsung stock is traded in Korea and Europe only. Both exchanges were closed at the announcement of this bad news. Samsung is a huge company manufacturing far more than just phones (Wikipedia lists apparel, automotive, chemicals, consumer electronics, electronic components, medical equipment, semiconductors, solid state drives, DRAM, ships, telecommunications equipment and home appliances). It will be interesting so see, what impact this will have on the overall valuation of the company.

Trying something new is great, but foisting it on consumers before it actually works is despicable.

I think that’s a bit exaggerative to say before ‘it actually works’ , we don’t know how many units are affected, but the same could be said against Apple with certain products they released in the past. Regardless, my point being was and still is, this is what happens sometimes with first GEN products, especially that are mass produced, they have issues that need to be rectified early on.

On a side note, sometimes the media can over exacerbate issues like this, but nonetheless, it’s something that still should be addressed.

Working out the kinks.

The words of this sentence can be re-arranged to form "working in the wrinkles."

It's true. Look it up.

At least 5 well-known reviewers have reported that their screens broke or malfunctioned, just in my twitter feed. How many reviewers are there?

How many reviewers are there?

Ok? Again, we don’t know how _many_ units are affected, what you said before was exaggerative, no matter what a ‘reviewer’ says, if you can indicate a number how many units are affected, please, by all means provide that link.

Some very defensive posters on this thread.

Can’t call something innovative if it doesn’t work.

At least five units are affected:

Marques Brownlee
Mark Gurman
Dieter Bohn
Todd Haselton
Steve Kovach

Those are just the ones in my twitter feed.

So apparently some reviewers can't read.

I'm just gonna say it. Foldable screens are a terrible idea and the engineering of this product is obviously horrible. Epic fail that isn't surprising in the slightest.

Who didn't see this coming? It's really cool they made a screen that folds but this tech is clearly not ready for real world use yet, which was pretty obvious from the first time they showed the phone in dark shadow, and subsequent "look but don't touch" showings.

These will be great in 3-5 years but not now.

Ouch.... this is not good. I was hoping for success in foldable displays to see more innovations come from it, even though I wouldn't buy one from the start. It doesn't look like a great start.

Apple: We had folding phones in 2016! All you had to do was keep it in your pocket...

...everyone forgot our 'doesn't lay flat' IPad folding Pro already?
