Does anyone know how well iTunes via retroactive is working on the official Montery release?
Light Mode seems to help a little bit. However i am reverting back to Big Sur. I use Star Ratings all the time and this design is unusable imho. Stuff like that makes me really angry... terrible unnecessary design choice.
I was surprised to see they finally fixed the queuing bug I have had since I don't know how long, I can finally move the songs around when I shuffle a playlist, albeit a bit janky.

i hear ya, being a Music user is a painful thing
feels like star ratings are less glitchy now though. For one I'm making star ratings and they arent playing the song, i tested a bunch and knock on wood, but the function is working now.
Also, I mentioned earlier in the thread (and others did, too) the star ratings in retina used to be low resolution. Now they are fixed, but the color obviously way too strong making it hard to look at in a different way
We just can't get a winning streak going. One step forward one step back.

'Loving' an album now gives it a black heart, it used to be red / "apple music" theme colored. Harder to see since the neutral option is a black outlined heart and 'dislike' is a black heart with a line in it
its a pain, you can 'love' and 'dislike' an album in artists view by right clicking, but you can only love it in Songs List by clicking the symbol, and in the ACTUAL ALBUM VIEW you have the option for nothing

Is this issue reported to Apple? Looks like it was there from the first Monterey beta, and is still there on release...

i notice this when something is updating, like if im editing metatags or an album is downloading, and maybe if a track changes
pre-monty though, this has been a thing for me a while

Coming from iTunes on Mojave, the Music app in Monterey is absolute hot garbage -- it's the clearest example of how bad some native Apple software can be. Everything is very slow to load, there are tons of visual glitches, the cursor doesn't show the correct pointer when hovering over clickable content, etc. It's very obvious it's one of those iPad apps Apple ports to macOS like some of the other apps on macOS. It just makes them look cheap, like they can't be bothered to invest some time/money into a decent desktop app because porting the iPad version is easier.

I am still on Mojave and will be upgrading my iMac (main computer) this weekend but I have had the displeasure of using the Music app on my laptop which is on Big Sur so I will continue using iTunes on Montery on my main computer using retroactive. I just can't be bothered with the Music app which is missing features I use daily and is also slow. I'm also not getting an M1 computer anytime soon so iTunes lives on!

Hardly ever. For streaming I use Tidal and for local files I used to use iTunes. Maybe I'll move to a different app for local music or just put up with the Music app for now.
Overall I miss iTunes. It would be awesome to see someone build an iTunes replacement for macOS 12 with full backwards compatibility for iTunes libraries.

I use Spotify for streaming and have a big iTunes library which I've built and curated for years so I will continue to use it as long as possible
I still hope that Apple will just overhaul the Music app and add the missing functionality and am I'm disappointed every year but who knows, macOS13 will be the year.

No idea, I didn't upgrade to any of the betas so only seeing it now in the official release. Some issues like this Apple just doesn't want to know about. I've reported plenty of issues over the years when I have done the beta program and I've yet to see one get fixed.

Oh geez, that is so disheartening to read - that even the beta program gets ignored. I send them feedback all the time about the Music app and not much changes. Some bugs seem so simple to fix too. Maybe NO ONE is working on it.

I came to post about the same issue! Also, I can't seem to trigger the 'Spatialize Stereo' setting either no matter what I do. I really like that feature for videos

If it's anything like where I work blockers, criticals and majors get attention but minors are just carried over to the next release and eventually forgotten about - especially ones I've reported that are just going on for years.
Although I'd consider the song list scrolling for no reason a bit more of a major/critical. I literally couldn't get back up the page to edit a song title when it was happening at one point.

After quite a number of initial stability problems with earlier releases of Music, including a couple of total library rebuilds and album cover image replacements, mine has now settled down and is working pretty well for my needs - just 4350 tracks solely for my personal use - and no perceived sound issues, I've now settled with it and abandoned my search for a better alternative. My only wish is that Apple would at some time reintroduce the scaleable album cover image feature that they had on iTunes. That was so useful when doing a quick search for an album.

Found an issue in meta tag editing. If you try to update the genre, it used to auto fill from the list as you typed, which makes sense, basic functionlity
now it just types, and if you use the menu itself, and click the one you want, it selects the next one...
here im trying to type 'Heavy Metal', but in lower case, it should find the right genre and auto correct it to proper caps as im typing, but does nothing now
i click Heavy Metal...
aaaand it's Hip Hop

In Contacts I can no longer simply paste a custom image (i.e., a headshot) from the clipboard. That functionality is gone.

To be sure, I could add the image I have clipped from LinkedIn to my Photos first and then select it from my Photos library through that dialog. However, that’s more cumbersome than necessary and will lead to my ultimately cluttering my library with irrelevant headshots.

One additional thing I hope finds its way back into macOS. I don’t know how far back this functionality was available.
Search for geolocation coordinates in the Maps app:

Clearly Maps can deal with coordinates.
Let’s say, I want to meet with family and friends at that precise location for a picnic tomorrow:
The Calendar app cannot interpret those coordinates. Several years ago it could, and I believe this is functionality that would not be too hard to implement.

I found that I no longer can tile window for FaceTime & Safari side by side (like left half is FaceTime & right half is Safari) after upgrade to Monterey. I can do that before Monterey. However, I can tile window for FaceTime & Firefox / Chrome side by side.
