Youre doing a lot of extrapolating to come to that conclusion. Im not saying this wont be the fix, but more testing is needed. Jav, post this stuff in the Apple website, okay? Also, I wouldnt recommend people trimming the sim card. Jav, didnt trim anything, and his worked.
I tried this and it did NOT work for me. I even went so far as to put tape over the right side of the SIM where it was contacting the tray. No luck!
This is what mine looks like. I still have the issue.
ok this is weird. i just got my camera out to make a video of the process. I started by trying to show I can't recreate the problem with ease. I've tested my phone numerous times and was ALWAYS able to get it to drop by placing a finger on the seam. I'm at my desk where I have recreated the issue numerous times with 100% of the time the issue presenting itself.
Only before even attempting the solution, I cannot recreate the issue. Anyway the issue is being corrected some other way? or is a time of day thing? This is weird.

I was skeptical but looked anyway and immediately noticed the the metal edge of the sim was touching the tray it sat in. It almost appears that the sims were incorrectly aligned in manufacturing. I'll just speculate and say maybe that is why Apple says "stay tuned" as they could be working something out with AT&T to get everyone new sims?
You cannot see it in the picture I took but the gold edge of the sim is toching the tray. I opted to take a thin piece of electrical tape to shield the sim but I have to admit, it is working and I am very pleased.
