it's not about mimicking steve jobs, it is about creating your own unique flare and catching the eye of the public in your own way. Tim did not do a fantastic job, but over time I think he will get the hang of unveiling items

No, it wouldn't. It would have been a pain for developers, though.

It wouldn't effect developers in the slightest. A 3.7" (or 4", or 7" for that matter) screen at the same 960x640 would not need a single line of code changed. The DPI would be lower, but as long as the pixel count doesn't change, no code changes are required at all.

Compared to? I forgot the IT community was such a suave and erudite bunch. At least Tim is a massive college football fan, which makes him more normal than about 99% of U.S. tech folks.

I see Steve as Apple. I don't trust Apple's ways without Steve. I think their quality will go down when he is no longer with Apple.

I agree I just watched the Keynote and Tims parts were so boring and dry. Steve somehow got you excited about the sales numbers like the money was going into your bank account haha.

I think Scott Forstall was the only one comfortable in his own skin up there. Tim seemed really nervous. Schiller was nervous and shaky. Eddie Cue was alright but Forstall I think seemed the most natural.

lol sales

I think Phil looked the best yesterday. Cracked a couple of jokes, looked comfortable. To be honest, I thought the Epic Games guys were the very best :D

Yeah yesterday's keynote was a bore. Half of it was them blabbing about numbers. We get it - millions of people download billions of stuff. The other half was it was comparing the iPhone 4S to its Android competitors. They used to never compare themselves to Android, I dont think they really need to even mention it in their sales pitch.

Forstall's creepy but he's definitely a better speaker than Tim.

I think everyone on stage yesterday was creepy.

I mean, if you look at Apple's leadership page, it looks like a select-your-fighter screen from Street Fighter.

Bob Mansfield reminds me of

I was surprised Tim didn't introduce the new iPhone.

Steve = products + numbers (the complete package)
Tim = just the business side

Either way - glad the others where around to introduce the products though

I feel sorry for any CEO that has to play high profile pitch man for their company's products. It never used to be this way. Steve Jobs (who wasn't even really all that compelling at keynotes IMO) pretty much changed the game.

Tim is a total power bottom and it shows on stage.

I think he should hire Woz to do keynotes.

Woz, really?? Woz reminds me of a typical crackpot uncle who can just never shut up about his conspiracy theories at a family thanksgiving dinner. He is a nice figure head for Apple, reminding people of "early days of glory".. But probably not someone Apple would ever want to put in front of their millions of customers.

Apple simply needs to do what they did when SJ was on a medical leave in 2010. Let Phil run the ketynotes, and bring in individual product managers for different pieces. Trying to force Tim Cook to play Steve won't work and it's not necessary.

Well, I guess this might have been why the presentation wasn't up to par as some expected.
No wonder Tim and Phil looked horrible yesterday. I'm sure they knew then.

Imagine having to get up on stage and present knowing that your best friend and founder of the company was on his deathbed.

I'm sure Tim Cook is a smart guy, but it's so hard watching him do the keynote.. I mean it was so painful to me. He's extremely slow and a bit monotone. Obviously, no one would be the perfect fit to replace Steve Jobs, but Tim isn't a very good presenter. Scott Forstall I think is one of the coolest speakers they have. They should let him do the keynotes.

I love Forstall's scary look :D

LOL! can someone photoshop a rugged facial hair thingo onto him? i agree though. tim is boring as. what made steve interesting was his passion and zest for what he was showing.. the presentation. something that forstall or ive conveys perfectly well.

having said that. steve jobs. he's irreplaceable. a technology whiz, a designer, a marketing guru, a terrific businessman, a visionary, a father and husband.. we'll never see another like him this lifetime.

Tim was soooooooo boring and he wasn't the one who introduced the iPhone 4S.. what kinda CEO is that?! :D

What a craptacular introduction by the new CEO of Apple. I am buying the 4S. All the whiney babies who are complaining about the screen not getting bigger need to take into account that all of the apps that you have would have to be reformatted to fit two iPhones and many of them to fit iPad 2. Im doubtful that they would do that. You heard Steve over a year ago say " People don't want Hummer phones".

Tim...come on.. get it together. You are supposed to get people excited..

Was anyone else really disappointed by Tim?

Hmm, how about buying a product based on its features rather than how the guy sells it in a presentation? Do you really just think "Oh damn, I'm buying that" and throw your credit card at the screen, or do you actually go and read up on the product first?

Tim's Tim. If he tried to be like Steve Jobs people would just criticise him for that, too. Give the poor guy a break.

I don't know how close they were, but if I knew a good friend and colleague of mine was very ill and had taken a turn for the worse, I wouldn't be at the top of my game either. I'm sure Tim will get the hang of things as time goes on

Agreed.
Tim is cool, but just needs to pick up the pace a lil' bit. I'm sure he'll grow into the role.
