Like I have said in my original post. It's hard to gauge the size of it by looking at the photos. Try it out in store for yourself and see what you think.

What will look comical is you wearing what looks like your girlfriend's watch.
Or you're the comical guy here that likes oversized watches. The 42mm looks huge on you small-average wrist. Open your eyes, you don't have Stallone wrists lol. ;)

42mm is ok for big wrists. 195mm at least. And the shape matters too, if it's pretty flat it's ok, if it's round even on 200mm wrists it will look tasteless.

It will look huge and tasteless, imo.
Traditional men watches come in 35-40 sizes. I have ~180 wrist and i don't own any watch over 40.
Buy the 38, it will look better on your wrist and it will fill more comfortable when you wear a jacket or a long sleeve shirt. ;)

my current watch is a 36mm reactor.... it's most definitely not too large on my 136mm wrist....

----------

i keep going back and forth and back and forth between elzbeth's two pics and i just love the look of the 42.... maybe it's because that's the color watch i'm ordering? but IMO the 38 just looks small compared to what i'm used to wearing.....

UGH! less than 4.5 hours to decide....

i think i need to get to bed so i can get my butt up just before midnight....

there's a LOT of guys out there that love oversized watches.... as there are also women that like them....

i think the 42 looks PERFECT on ray's wrist!

Everyone is talking about case size vs. wrist circumference but that is the wrong comparison. You should be comparing wrist width vs. face size. Circumference only matters when fitting the band. Both of my wrists have the same width but one has an extra centimeter in total circumference.

The face vs. the wrist width is what will be noticed the most.

In my case, I have 167mm circumference on the arm I"ll wear the watch. Seems like 42 is a lock, right? Wrong. I have very "round" wrists. Only 50-55mm width. Given the OP's width of 65mm and that the 42mm looks to be only just barely not oversized, it is clear (also based on other factors such as my own tastes) that 38mm is the only choice for me.

But if my wrists were flatter, and thus wider, I might be going for the 42. It's width that matters, not circumference.

This is such a silly sentiment. I am sure apple was only thinking about people with huge wrists when they made the 42mm despite multiple reviewers talking about how the sizes could be worn by just about anyone depending on preference.

My preference is for the larger watch since I feel like my average size wrists (170mm) look smaller with the smaller face.

I asked several people on Instagram who tried on the Apple Watch what their wrist size was and if they felt 38mm or 42mm fit better and they mostly said that 38mm was small and 42mm fit great (even for those with small wrists).

People, 38 is not too small. It's actually the ideal size for average wrists (170-190). It looks perfect and classy on almost everybody.

The oversized watch trend needs to stop. It's disgusting!

did you see any pairings of the sport with Milanese band?? Really want to see it before preordering!!

Agreed with this, I have 165mm around but only 45 mm across. The 42mm looks silly on me.

38 is a little on the small side. I wear a Rolex Daytona regularly (40mm) and I recently bought a 42mm watch, and now the Daytona feels tiny in comparison, while the 42mm feels just right.

The difference is that 42mm is a measure of the width, and the Apple Watch is a rectangular shape. Width wise it might look ok, but height wise, it might be too much. Hard to say without seeing it in person.

155mm girly wrists here too and going with 42mm Sport. Ordering in 4 hours! Apparently it's already difficult enough to press the app icons so not going small. Bigger always better. :)

We have almost the exact same measurements. 165mm cir, 50-55mm width. I"m going with the 38 blue sport.

I been sure I was getting the space gray SS with the black but starting to waver to SS AND Milanese loop not sure. Did any one see the space gray SS

Ben Bajarin posted a photo of the sport band. It looks so much better on his wrist than some I'm seeing on Instagram. So either it's forms to your wrist over time or its being attached too loosely in the store. If it's the latter I hope somebody at Apple is monitoring this and getting store employees trained properly. Last thing Apple needs is photos all over Instagram and Twitter or ill fitting watches.

Thanks for the great writeup and amazing pics.

Any thoughts on how the Milanese loop would look with the sport model? I realize the pics are shown with the Steel watch but I am wondering if you think it would clash with the sport after seeing it in person.

And which size is this one? 38 or 42?

I'm thinking I don't have much of a choice since my wrist is 195mm around and 60-65mm wide, it's looking like the 42. It appears it will be larger than my current watch though:

https://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/accessories/watchesandwatchstraps/PRDOVR~27460/27460.jsp

This has a 18mm strap, and judging from the pics the strap for the sport watches will be much wider than 18mm.

Does anyone know the strap widths?
