I'm thinking I don't have much of a choice since my wrist is 195mm around and 60-65mm wide, it's looking like the 42. It appears it will be larger than my current watch though:

https://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/accessories/watchesandwatchstraps/PRDOVR~27460/27460.jsp

This has a 18mm strap, and judging from the pics the strap for the sport watches will be much wider than 18mm.

Does anyone know the strap widths?

Golden ratio can be a useful guide for not having too big or too small a watch. Take your wrist width * 0.618. That'd be ideal "height" and you can go from there. If it was me, if I had anything over 38, I'd go with the 42, otherwise seriously consider the 38. For 60 it's kind of gray, but for 65? Pretty clearly indicates 42mm if you prefer to lean large.

There's no accounting for taste though, not really, and ultimately you won't REALLY know without trying them on.

Milanese Loop - Comes loose throughout the day

Hi @RayDonovan,

I'm trying to track down a review I read this morning where someone said that the Milanese Loop can work itself loose throughout the day. I'm wondering if that discussion came up while you were trying on the Apple Watch today. Also, what do you think would happen if you stuck your hands into your pockets wearing a pair of jeans? Would it knock the magnetic milanese loop off or slightly readjust it's position? Or what if you were to swing your arm and wrist when you play tennis for interest? Do you think it would loosen up?

Thanks,
@Showtunes

I'm still at Doncaster so went back, I'm undecided over 38 or 42 despite 145mm smallish wrists. Here's a pic side by side

Interesting, my wrists measure at 148 mm yet your wrists look wider than mine. I guess that post about ignoring wrist circumference and choosing based on wrist width does make sense. Neither one looks bad on you. 42 mm looks good, just what I'm used to thinking as masculine in proportion mainly because it's so...unapologetically rectangular! :p

I never considered the 42 mm but now seeing it on your smaller circumference wrist I wonder if I could get away with it. I'll not likely try, but I am impressed you could pull it off. I am only 5ft 1in though so the idea of me wearing the same watch as my 6ft 2 husband gives me pause.

I agree, you could pull off either one. IMO I think the 38mm looks a little sleeker on you but if the screen size and ease of use in easier on the 42mm I'd go for that.

They seem like to different devices. As though one is a watch and one is a wristband computer. Interesting effect that just a few millimeters difference can have (38mm watch is actually 38.6mm.)

its kind of like a matt alu body. pretty nice feel on the hand. wont attract finger prints compared to stainless steel. the stainless steel one looks the the back of the first gen ipod touch . prob will get scatched easily. sports band is really comfory tho. aiming for that (y)

Is it the same Gray as the iPhone 6?

It looks darker in pictures.

38 looks better in my opinion, and the leather band seems to fit better too.

38 leather band would be good.

The 42 looks monstrous. With those arms, I'd go with the 38mm. My wrists are a little over 170mm but GShocks look absolutely huge on me. I was thinking 38mm but now after reading through these boards, I'm thinking maybe 42mm. Decisions decisions. #

I would recommend that everyone go in and try one on first before you order as you might be surprised at how much smaller the watches are than they appear in photos. Even when photographed on the wrist itself.

My experience

I walked straight into the Apple store this afternoon. No queue, and I had time to try on as many of the watches as I liked. My observations:
  • All of the bands looked very nice. The soft pink leather, however, does not go well with my (tanned white) skin.
  • The sports watch looks just as nice as the SS, especially with the black or white band.
  • The strength of the taptic taps varied considerably amongst the five watches I tried on - either that, or it was something to do with the tightness of the band, though I set them all to a pretty firm fit. It felt best in the watch with the strongest taps.
  • The Edition is on display even in a store that is not amongst those listed as having Edition watches to try on.
  • The sports bands felt plasticy under my finger-tips, but it wasn't noticable once they were on.
  • The modern leather buckle bands felt lovely.
  • To my tastes, the 42mm looked too big on my 165mm wrists.
  • The watches are noticably thick and noticably heavy. Nothing you wouldn't get used to pretty quickly.
  • The thickness of the watch is more noticeable on the 38mm than on the 42mm.
  • The try-on watches are on a fixed loop, so you can't try out how well the "raise wrist to turn it on" feature works in practise, and you can't interact with them, apart from to touch and try on.
  • You can interact with the display watches, however, and they are not immediately intuitive, even if you have watched all the guided tour videos.

I am still getting one.

Thanks for all the observations and reports.

My question for anyone who got to compare SS watches to the Sport watches...since the backs of the SS models are ceramic and the backs on the Sport are some kind of composite, did they feel very dofferent against the skin?

Nope.

I actually liked the fact that they were heavy. Most upmarket watches are. You'd definitely notice if it was gone.

Wow that screen is awesome. It looks like that pink flower is growing directly behind the glass.

Thanks for sharing your observations. Will you be going with the 38mm?
