kind of adorable that you would think that Apple would pass down savings to the consumer rather than pocket it for themselves. Companies are always looking for ways to increase profit margins...not decrease or stay the same.

Kind of adorable that you think the competitor wouldn't pass on those savings in an attempt to undercut the other competition and then every else follows suit to keep up.

Savings almost always EVENTUALLY filter down to the customer in a competitive market.

What? I said the leaked design, not the 4 or 4s.

The leaked design looks like the 4/4s yea, but with the longer screen it looks awkward.

You said it didn't look like anything apple would design. Im saying it looks identical to the most beautiful, best selling product apple ever sold. And I agree, the new screen has to grow on me as well, but it were going from past history, it looks just like apple. Whatever the case, I'm excited as hell for next wed!!

It's ridiculous if the storage stays the same. 32Gb should be the minimum at this point.

I'm hoping for that increased storage as well. I refuse to spend more for storage on my phone as I can get by on 16gb and the premium of $100 is just not justified.
But I'd like to get 32gb with my $200.

I'm hoping that Tim Cook can pull off one of the greatest apple launches of all time by releasing an iPhone 5 that is nothing like all the leaked photos. That would be über cool.

Apple kept the last dock connector for 9 years (and maintained complete compatibility with modern devices for at least the last 4 or 5 years)

So if you're passing on the iPhone 5 because of the new dock connector... will you be passing on the iPhone forever?

Apple will never go back to the old dock connector... so you're gonna have to use the new dock connector eventually.

I understand this period of adjustment is a pain... but you might as well jump in.

Apple will keep using this new dock connector for many years to come.

I understand the new dock will be the standard. My point was that I'm only going to jump if there is something significantly better about the phone that makes it worth taking on that additional inconvenience at this time.

But if it's just a slightly taller phone with a slightly faster processor, then I'll just sit it out for awhile.

If the new model is a leap like the iPhone 4 was (which really raised the bar at the time), it will be worth it.

AT&T iPhones uses SIM cards. You need a paper clip to open it up and pull it out. The iphone 5 for verizon will also have a SIM card as it's required for LTE.

I will not buy a locked phone anymore! I'm happy with my locked-local carrier but I hate the fact that I have to roam when traveling abroad and hate the fact I can't insert any sim!!!

Having more memory is fine if you want it. But I don't want to pay more money for storage I'm not going to use.

Nobody in this thread has said or implied that anyone should pay more for storage. We want more storage for the price we would be paying anyway since Apple now pays less for memory than they did when these prices were set. Two and a quarter years ago my 32GB iPhone 4 cost me $299. Why should I pay $299 again for the same memory 2.25 years later when it's lower cost now?

which is offset by the cost of the new screen.

Inflation?

Just looked it up and the 32GB 3GS was also $299. 3 years at the same price point. Maybe the screen does compensate for some savings, but it's reasonable to expect an eventual memory bump.

Yeah that would be awesome. But thats not going to be the case. You're a missing a point. Not everyone reads these blogs and see all these leeks popping everywhere like we do. Normal consumer will see the new iPhone when they actually see it on tv.

No, no, no! Sick of seeing people complain about storage options.

Prices HAVE fallen since last year, but they are still ~$1 per Gb for NAND above the 16Gb threshold.

If Apple made the $199 5 have 32Gb, then that would necessarily mean the next model up would be $299 64Gb and then$399 128Gb.

First off, NO one is offering that capacity for smartphones.

Second, that would INSANELY boost their manufacturing cost per device on the $399 model by at least $50 for the NAND increase.

The whole point is Apple is supposed to be the first to market with it...right. INNOVATIIOONN!

I say Apple should include a puppy in the box, for the same low price. Some people would really like having a puppy. Those that don't could give the puppy to a friend or sell it on eBay.

Seriously, if Apple doesn't announce free puppies with every iPhone next week I think I'm going to go with BlackBerry.

Puppies would be innovative. Nothing is as innovative as a puppy.

Ah... I see.

I agree that the 3GS to the 4 was a big jump.

But I also think the 4S to the 5 will be a big jump as well (even if it doesn't look like it)

I'm in the same boat though... I only got my iPhone 4S in December... so I'm under contract until August 2013. That would put me in line for the iPhone 5S... and only a year away from the potentially "all new" iPhone 6.

I'm tempted to sell my iPhone 4S and pay full price just to be at the leading edge of this upcoming iPhone generation.

But I probably won't :D

And if I weren't an impatient person I'd say the cycle you were on is the better one and I'd wait for the 5S (but I've waited more than two years and I have an upgrade, unless the new iphone really sux I'm going to use it). Cause yours is the one that tends to get the good processor bumps and spec bumps. My cycle tends to get the iphones that don't stay relevant as long cause they don't get very much of a processor bump usually (note how long the 3GS stayed relevant and I bet the 4S stays relevant longer than the 4 does. I mean iOS 6 is pretty gimped for the 4).

All I really want out of my new iphone is a faster processor, more RAM, and more storage.

heyy

I don't know why, but every time I look at the leaked iPhone 5 design, I cringe. It doesn't seem like a product Apple would sell. It looks odd.

Forget about how it was before and look at it now. it looks nicer and im shure you'd be with me when you see it in person, apple's made it, thats why im sure it'll look like an apple product when it comes out. always stunning.

pd: centered front camera helps.

I was really hoping that they would ditch the 16GB and have 32GB as the lowest capacity model.....
make the 32 cost what did the 16 but keep the 16 at a lower price

If the LCD is actually on that new iphone it looks pretty slick how dark it looks when its off.
check how grey it looked in the first iphone. http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/gadgetlab/2010/04/iphoneoriginal-660x440.jpg

if thats so its been a big improvement since then.

Uhh. Duh.

Though I was kinda hoping for 32/64/128 ... then I could stop being selective on what music I sync.

Apple is incorrigible —*moving parts in a 6th generation high-end phone in 2012? A home button? One of those with a life-cyle of a couple of years only?

Unbelievable.

I just wish I could install iOS on a Nokia N920. Now that's a spectacularly designed phone.

I've never had an issue with the home button. Pointless complaint.
