Like other's have said, it seems like the 64GB barrier is hard to cross. It seems like forever that it's been 16/32/64 (although in reality a few years)

The 64GB model was released less than one year ago. Unless you're speaking of other phone brands.

Why would Apple do it? Maybe Apple have taken note of what has happened to the HTC one X. It's arguably a better phone than the Galaxy S3 (better screen, better camera etc..) but it's sales figures are a flop compared to the S3 running the same OS. The biggest reason for people avoiding the HTC are the 16GB size limit with no micro SD slot. Tech forum's are full of people saying that's the main reason they got the Galaxy instead. If Apple take any notice of the sales figures of the various Android devices I think that would be reason enough to start at 32GB for the price of last years 16GB.

Since when has Apple cared about what other phone manufacturers offer?

I was really hoping that they would ditch the 16GB and have 32GB as the lowest capacity model.....

I'd be interested to know the chip prices of 8, 16, 32, 64GB now, as opposed to the prices of these same sizes at the beginning?

I agree one would think it's just getting cheaper every time to fit the same memory size in.

Apple I don't think have any interest, and if anything are even less lightly to increase memory now they have their iCloud system as they will see this for the reason not to give us any more on device storage.

I don't know why, but every time I look at the leaked iPhone 5 design, I cringe. It doesn't seem like a product Apple would sell. It looks odd.

Hmm..so the 4S and 4, only the 2 best selling cell phones of all time, (not too mention the most beautiful), don't look like apple products either?

All companies pay close attention to what their competitors are doing, that's how they know the market and exploit their competitions weaknesses.

You can be sure Apple know exactly what their competitors are doing.

Re-watch the original 2007 iPhone keynote speech, iirc Steve spoke at length about the competition and what they offered compared to the iPhone. I'm sure he even had 4 or 5 different competing models (blackberries, Nokia's etc..) on screen for a big portion of it, and he certainly talked a lot about market share and its comptitors sales figures.

with cloud storage, and even cloud music storage.....16 gb is plenty. I would almost be willing to bet 16gb is their biggest seller.

Apps are getting bigger. We don't have any music/video, etc. Only Apps and it is full. We have to delete a few to fit more. Then cycle them as needed. I wish we had more flash!

I think 128 is unrealistic, but was hoping for a $100 drop on the others. Remember when the 4 was released at 16GB for $199 and 32GB for $299? Why have 3 versions? Just sell:
16GB 4- 99¢
16GB 4S- $99
32GB 5- $199
64GB 5- $299

Just until 128 is more achieveable, then add it in in a future update.

For those speaking about not needing space with iCloud, carriers are killing cloud services with their low data limits. I get that heavy users are a drain on the system, but a 2GB limit is ridiculous! I have iTunes in the cloud and use it only for a backup because I tried it once and went to my 65% warning in a few days.

Managing data is a chore and it's only going to get worse.

I guess I am just different than most. I don't have but 1 or 2 games and all the other apps I use on a daily bases...only 3 screens are used and that is leaving 2 blank on each page. Pictures are gone once they sync with iphoto. Cloud storage and spotify have 100% removed my need to have music on my phone, which I think takes up most space for people.

What? I said the leaked design, not the 4 or 4s.

The leaked design looks like the 4/4s yea, but with the longer screen it looks awkward.

Why? Because that's how much you need, so everyone should have to pay at least what you pay? I have 16 on my iPhone and have a lot of room to spare. Why should I be forced to pay for more?

Who said you'd be forced to pay for more? They already released the price points. Something has to fill that 199 price and if they made 32 the minimum, it would be the 32. So why would you care cause you wouldn't be paying for more and hell, you'd be getting more for the same price! You have absolutely nothing to lose if they decide 32 is now the smallest one they offer.

It's the same everytime they up the minimum. They don't up the price, they just start offering more storage at the same price points.

Why does everyone assume they'll keep the same price for the 32 if they make it minimum when Apple has never worked like that ...

Does anyone think they'll include the factory unlocked versions for the initial preorders or do you guys think there will be a waiting period before the factory unlocked come out?

I want to know that also ... I want a factory unlocked one also

Exactly.

Back in the day they had a 4GB and 8GB model. The 16GB 1st generation iPhone didn't come out until early 2008 IIRC, and it was the biggest capacity available at the time. I bought it in February 2008, and it was the most expensive iPhone at the time.

Jobs rejected this phone over year ago.

"iPhone 5 WAS real until Steve Jobs binned it because the screen was too big"

"New phone will have four-inc"

"the new phones were supposed to have aluminum backs."

"CEO Steve Jobs, who died last month, did not like the bigger screen of the prototype iPhone 5"

"Jobs - who was known for having a temper - was unhappy with the phone's bigger screen because it 'fragmented' iPhones."

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...eve-Jobs-binned-screen-big.html#ixzz25nTFYrph

I'd have believed this more if you hadn't quoted the Daily Fail

It would be sweet if they only had 32, 64 and 128 GB at those price points...more space, more apps to buy!

I will not buy a locked phone anymore! I'm happy with my locked-local carrier but I hate the fact that I have to roam when traveling abroad and hate the fact I can't insert any sim!!!

I must stay that I'm pretty disappointed (assuming we have most of the facts) with this phone. My entire family is 'locked' into the iOS ecosystem and my iPhone 4 is on its last legs, so I'll be purchasing this phone... but reluctantly. I am starting to feel the same way I did in the early '90's when I abandoned Apple desktops for PC. They're simply not innovating at a pace that will keep up with the competition (IMHO).

No NFC (or some similar e-pay system)? Guess we have to wait for the iPhone 5S, thus making this phone already obsolete in many ways?

Is the ugly and disjointed back of this phone Ivy's "best work"? I understand the need for better reception, etc, around the metal casing but it's downright ugly. Not a huge deal because I'll use a case.. I guess it's more of the principle.. I have come to expect beautiful design.

Is the alleged battery size/composition improvement going to compensate for the larger screen AND LTE? My wife's 4S already has abysmal battery life. This phone screams "bring a charger" if the rumors are true.

Don't get me wrong.. I've had every generation (1, 3G, 4) of iPhone within 24 hours of its release. I've been following all the rumors, damn near daily, since I bought my iPhone 4 in 2010. However, if Apple doesn't deliver something more than what the rumor mill has already revealed this may be my last iPhone while I slowly transition my family out of this ecosystem.

I was sincerely rooting for you Apple. Unless you have some serious surprises up your sleeve I'm afraid you've let many of us diehard fans down. Just my opinion, but I'm disappointed.

Don't forget to add the joy of speaker docks and other accesssories no longer fitting without a unsightly adapter being used.

Which will of lead to a whole group of updated accessories that you could buy...but would be a PITA beacuse they only work with some of your devices.

Or the fun of - oh wait, you want to attach your iPod touch to the laptop, let me swap cables/take the adapter off so you can use it...

Unless the new device has some 'must have' features to it, I'll pass.

Apple kept the last dock connector for 9 years (and maintained complete compatibility with modern devices for at least the last 4 or 5 years)

So if you're passing on the iPhone 5 because of the new dock connector... will you be passing on the iPhone forever?

Apple will never go back to the old dock connector... so you're gonna have to use the new dock connector eventually.

I understand this period of adjustment is a pain... but you might as well jump in.

Apple will keep using this new dock connector for many years to come.

I don't think Apple really cares how they rank in terms of sales.

Look... the iPhone will never outsell Android phones as a platform... and it will probably never outsell Samsung in hardware sales either.

But who cares.

Apple does what it does... they sell tons of high-margin devices and makes their investors happy.

Those of us in tech forums love to play this game of "who's on top in smartphone sales" but Apple doesn't play that game.

On a personal note... I'm a happy iPhone user... and I don't really care what "the other guys" are doing.

Screw subsidized phones. I guess I can assume the unlocked models will be the same price as the 4S?

It doesn't make sense to buy a locked phone anymore with services like Straight talk.

The down side is that you have to front the $$$ for the phone up front. But you do save around $300+ in the long run over what would be your 2 year contract.

I totally agree with you about subsidised plans. Because of loyalty to my provider my plan costs me £6.50 per month for 500 minutes and unlimited texts and data. Every year I refuse a phone and they reduce the cost. I always buy my phones outright, it'd be madness for me to pay £30 per month for a similar or lesser deal and still have to pay towards the phone. There are so many cheap rolling deals out there you're almost guaranteed to save money over 24 months.
