Didn't for me. I restored my iPhone twice. First time without wiping first. Second time wiped via phone first, then a complete restore. (80gb... Took hours.

Both times watch was wiped. First time watch was restored from backup. Second time, set up as new.

Didn't work either time.

It's obviously not affecting every watchOS2 user, as my friend has one updated fine. And in fact any google searches for our problem turn up nothing. I only stumbled onto this thread thanks to Reddit. I strongly suggest as many of us as possible that are experiencing this report it to Apple. As thus far, it could only be the two reports that myself and BBqthis have reported that they know about.

Wipe using iTunes or directly on the iPhone?

I don't think this is necessarily true. You know a iphone app built to support iOS 9 can have both native and non-native apps bundled with it?

There's always a critic - it is true. The applications that run natively on the watch are actually watchkit extensions, not applications like iOS applications. The only really differences are that files are now stored and executed on the watch and not all of the frameworks are shared between Watch OS and iOS. You can have both executables available (OS 1, OS 2) in your iOS, too.

You're 100% right though, they launch differently when remote versus native and the best way to tell is from the launch screen.

OK, I am now sat at my iMac encrypting the backup in iTunes, and then I'm going to wipe the iPhone 6 using the 'Erase All...' within General settings on the iPhone, and see if that works after restoring from a backup. 128GB is going to take a while....

Wish me luck!

I have this issue too. Very horrible, but I'm not gonna mess around with restoring and crap like that. Hopefully apple will release an update soon to correct their mistakes

OK almost 2 hours later I have finished restoring, now just syncing and restoring my Watch, everyone, pray for me

i wonder if apple is aware of this bug in watchOS 2 and is working on a fix and also why we are not seeing any native apps being released on the app store. not one of my apps have recieved an update since iOS 9 and watchOS 2 was released.

OK just finished and all restored, 3 hours later.

Guess what, it DIDN'T BLOODY WORK.

I GIVE UP! watchOS 2.0.1 ASAP plz Apple :(

I'm worried about updating to 9.01 since

Do we have any sense if this problem is very common or mostly just the few folks in this thread? Haven't heard any press on it and it seems that the update is working fine in at least some percentage of the users. I wonder if this is an outlier problem or is it significant at all.

I am also anxious to see more native apps. I think this is really a game changer. I see myself with a handful of truly useful native apps versus a bunch of basically useless apps I downloaded when I first got my watch. The first couple work really well. More please.

Finally, finally, I made it to work.

1. Backup your iPhone using iTunes. (I don't know if an encrypted backup is necessary, because my friend didn't do that but I did.)

2. 'Erase All Content and Settings' from Settings app in your iPhone (Do NOT erase using iTunes! I've tried it and it doesn't work!)

3. 'Erase All Content and Settings' on your Apple Watch Settings app.

4. Restore your iPhone from backup using iTunes

5. Pair your iPhone with your Apple Watch.

Everything should work as you expect.

Good Luck.

I can confirm this, it worked. After spending 1:30 hours for my backup and restore process, at least one native app (Dataman) is working flawlessly (the other ones are still being downloaded to my phone) But I'm sure they will be working once I install them on my watch.

EDIT: All of them work now.

Before any more people waste hours blowing down their phone/watch configurations and reinstalling everything, have you tried reinstalling Dark Sky today? Go into the Watch app on your phone, uncheck "Show App on Apple Watch", let it uninstall, then slide the switch back on to let it reinstall. Dark Sky is launching as a native app (name in upper left hand corner of the screen, loading quickly and working perfectly for me (6+ on iOS 9.0, Watch on OS2).

I think the problem is in the native apps themselves. Maybe Apple tweaked something in the code after the devs wrote/tested the apps and before WatchOS2 was released, which broke the functionality. Once the devs correct whatever it is (which Dark Sky seems to have), everything should work as it's supposed to. Just my theory.

Just out of curiosity, how many watch apps would you say you have installed?

I've tried 3 - Dark Sky, Tide Times Pro & iTranslate.

Before watchOS2, they worked on 1.0.1 as non native apps of course, but now they don't open at all - just hanging on loading spinner then they force quit.

EDIT: the Apple Store app just got a native update. Doesn't work either for me.

Do you update over-the-air (on your iPhone) or with iTunes?

Nop, for us who suffering from this issue. The first thing we do is to install and uninstall the app again and again to check if it work.

The problem is not with the app, it is with the WatchKit extension and there is something wrong when updating to watchOS 2.0

Well this is beyond frustrating

I am having exact same issues, try installing Parcel, it is a native watch OS 2 app. It is also the only native watch OS 2 app working for me. Many apps won't work such as buzzfeed, citymapper, transit, Trivia crack, weather channel/network.

Hard Restarting my iPhone 6 and watch multiple times as well as turning location services on and off does nothing. I have tried repairing and restoring yet. I'm on iOS 9.0.1. I might try installing 9.1 beta 2 or beta 3 once released

I'm not sure, I've been following this thread because I had not updated until yesterday. I updated phone from 8.4 to 9.0.1, then watch from 1.0.1 to 2 yesterday. I had a bunch of problems, but in relation to this thread, I found that none of my apps (once I got them installed, which is another story) where native apps. So what happened for me was that I could still run Dark Sky, but it was the old version, even though the watch was on OS2. Then I attached to iTunes (which I had just installed all the apps from when I updated the phone) and when I synced it, it re-installed a bunch of apps. It seems iTunes knows that the watch version changed and updates the apps on the iPhone to match. After that, I had native Dark Sky, which would start but had the location not found issue.

You have a non-working Dark Sky now, right? If you go in to the iPhone app store app and look at updates, is Dark Sky listed as up to date or will it let you update it again?

It looks like there are several app install bugs presently, but iTunes on Mac, at least, can successfully install apps (that's what I was using.)

so are you suggesting that if we uninstall the native app from the iphone and apple watch, and connect the iphone to the imac and install any kind of native apple watch app (such as dark sky) using itunes it will install properly?

I thought I'd Beaten it second restore. Dark Sky loaded yay!

But it loaded as a non native 'name in middle by spinner' app. Opened up AppStore on phone... Dark sky update. Installed and it failed again. My iTunes library had the older version of Darksky. As soon as it updated it didn't work.

I don't think this is common at all the Apple Tech support guy I spoke to Wednesday morning spoke to the engineering team and they had not come across it before. It could well be just us handful of people that this bug is affecting.

Which is why is important we all log it. If only three people file a support issue they're never gonna fix it.

Unbelievable, native apps are now working on my watch after many tries with many ways. At last I end up with fresh iphone and fresh watch. At first i think it doesn't work because it still crashes, but after a few minutes I try it's again and all native apps work magically.

I can breathe now, hope this issue won't happen again.

It might, if you have iTunes handy to try, it should be a lot faster than a reload of the entire phone.
