Hey guys, I've been following this thread since the beginning and I have the same issue from the day 1 watchOS 2 came out.

I've used several watchOS 2 betas on my Apple Watch as I am an iOS developer and I was enormously glad when it came out as a final release I downloaded the minute is was available.

I've been trying to reset my watch, reset the iPhone, all the things you guys did and nothing helped. I tried it with iOS 9.0, 9.0.1 and 9.0.2.

But today I tried a different approach. I unpaired my watch and set it up as new on my girlfriend's iPhone 6 that's running iOS 9.0.1.

It was the iPhone's first acquaintance with Apple Watch at all and guess what...

I was totally shocked when ALL the native apps started working! Every single one of them!

I don't know what it was, but right now I'm unpairing my watch and I'll try to attach them back to my good old iPhone 6 Plus (which I haven't set up as new or reset or anything), hoping that eventually it will all work out.

Wish me luck!

Interesting indeed, please let us know how it goes.

How long are you going to take to test it out?

I already did, I have about 100 Apple Watch apps on my iPhone 6 Plus and the result is... negative.

It didn't work. I'll try to ponder about some new elaborate ways to trick the system, or I'll guess I have to take my girlfriend's iPhone and use it as my main device.

Anyway, Apple Watch seems to have some kind of connection to the iPhone it belongs to or something, I can't explain it.

To me, it seems that the problem is clearly not in the Apple Watch or watchOS, it's in the iPhone it's being paired to.

If anyone has the opportunity to test their Apple Watch with an iPhone that was never attached to Apple Watch before - please let us all know.

I'll continue looking for more clues and come back to you guys if I see any fresh ways out.

Seconded.

How long has everyone here owned their iPhone/when was the last time you started fresh without a backup? I have a feeling there's some leftover junk we all have from upgrading to new iOS versions over many, many years that's causing some conflict now. I believe my current backup dates back to iOS 4 or 5.

Wow that is interesting indeed, so weird, it indicates there is no major issue within watch os 2 nor ios 9.0.2 however there is some issue/bug when the two are paired under specific circumstances, my only bet would be that most of us here perhaps upgraded from the Golden Master of iOS 9 which could ultimatley be the cause? however i recall there were others in this thread that never had any ios 9 beta on their phone and still exhibit this problem so im really lost .

Nope, I upgraded to iOS 9 with the rest of the world and bought my watch three days ago. :(

i have started fresh with iOS 8 so i dont have years of data in my backup, the only time in my life when i restored from a backup and didn't start fresh was when i got my iphone 6S Last week, i restored my iPhone 6 backup to my new iPHONE 6S

I've tried restoring my iPhone from a backup and the unpair/pair process, but I had no luck. Called apple support - they're going to get back to me. Filed a bug: 22959247. If you're having trouble the best thing you can do is contact Apple so they gain an awareness of the problem and hopefully get back to us with a fix.

Just a guess, since the only thing I haven't tried is wiping the iPhone without restoring from backup. I've tried unpairing/repairing the watch without restoring from backup multiple times and the problem seems to stick no matter what I do to the watch (which I only purchased three days ago, btw).

But you know as much as I do hah.

So I took the plunge and completely wiped both phone and watch and installed everything new (no backups). Nope. Still don't work. In fact, this time around I had problems even installing native apps and had to resort to that funny play music while you uninstall/install trick to get them on the watch. Frustrating.

EDIT: this was on a 6S/128 and a sport watch.

Thanks for going through that, this indeed is a some serious bug that lies within the firmware of watchos 2, ios 9 or BOTH

Sleep++ says "not authorized" for me. Is it this bug, or something else? (I looked everywhere to give access to whatever it needs).

Sleep ++ has been the easiest and maybe the best native app for me. That and carrot.

However, reading this thread has made me a believer that something is wrong and I can't help but feel very sorry for hose having the problem. I can't imagine the patience since this seems like a very small majority but very true and serious. My sympathy goes out to all having the problem. Formatting from scratch and still having the exact same problem makes me believe it is the phone/computer/iTunes and if you paired to another iPhone it would work. But who has that option readily available. I bet it works on another phone.

I am definitely interested in the solution

I've had the problem on two phones -- my 6 Plus and then my new 6S Plus. However, I've not yet tried another erase on the 6S Plus but this time setting the phone up as totally new.

Apple tech support called me back last night and the engineers now want me to try a variation on that, erasing the phone, connecting it to iTunes, restoring it to factory settings, disconnecting it, then on the phone go to the App Store and download some of the apps that have been crashing, then pair with the watch as new, and see if they work. This will effectively bypass my iTunes. I'm away from my computer until Sunday night so I don't want to try this until then. Not sure what next steps will be if it works, meaning how to then finish getting the rest of my stuff back onto the phone and do subsequent backups without getting the same issue back. If it doesn't work, they want to capture more crash and data logs from me.

In the meanwhile the tech adviser also suggested I try deleting one of the affected apps from my phone and downloading it fresh from the AppStore on my phone, and reinstall it on the watch. Did that twice, the second time with all of the affected apps. First was while watch was still paired and second time without and then re-pair. You guessed it -- no dice. Argghh.

So frustrating. I will try their next step on Sunday night and go from there. Very sick of this but will stick it out until all is working as it should.

Is anyone able to try this? I'm busy and not able to do another full restore today.

FIXED after 2 phone calls visit to the apple store it is fixed.

So here is the story, called apple sent files, never called back, called again the guys reset watch, unpaired didn't work, told me to take it to apple store. took it in, unpaired my watch and paired to new phone, they couldn't install apps and, paired a new watch to my phone, and it had the same issue. So i figured out it is not the watch. came home. I did the following

1- Unpaired the Watch
2- Backed up Phone to iTunes (This way you have the latst watch backup)
3- Reset the phone settings from the phone. (General> Reset> Erase All Contents and Setting) (I have iPhone 9.1 beta 2)
4- Setup up the phone as a new phone
5- Paired watch as brand new
6- Downloaded and tested one Native app and to see if they work
7- Reset watch from the watch (Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings)

Now to get your data back

8- Reset the phone settings from the phone. (General> Reset> Erase All Contents and Setting)
9- Restored the phone from backup on iTunes (I don't have the apps in my iTunes, so they were downloaded Fresh during Install)
10- Paired my watch to the restored iPhone
11- Restored the watch from last back up on the phone

all apps except web MD works.

hope this works for every one

I'm doing this as we speak and I hope it works but I can confirm that your native apps work if you just set your iPhone and Watch up as new devices.
So if my native apps fail to load when I've done all the steps I'm going to set my devices up as new devices because I'm just sick of waiting for a fix.

EDIT: It looks like it's working! Swarm works anyway, other apps are still downloading!

It's my day off today and I have man flu, so what the hell, may as well try it!

It's getting critical for me now, telegram has been updated to watchos2 and that's the app I use the most on my watch

Well I'm hopeful, certainly the apps all worked as new. So I'm halfway through, now the putting everything back part XD
I just realized I did one thing different than the original steps. I set up the watch as new, didn't want to risk it with putting a backup on the watch.
