I have two HomePods and they both updated without any problem.
I'll let you know shortly. Updated to iOS 13.2 on iPad and iPhone, now using iPad to update the HomePod.Wait. So did anyone that updated to iOS13.2 first have issues?
Crap, I hope my iPad had the full install downloaded before the update started.Apple may have pulled it. After it originally showed me 13.2 available for HomePod, it now shows:
iOS 12.4 - Your HomePod software is up to date.
In the home app it has downloaded three times and instead of giving the option to "install" once it's downloaded, it keep going back to the "download" option again. Pretty sure I've wasted 4 GB of bandwidth on this already today.

Just cut your phone on....off. Breaks the connection.Just checked and it looks like the update is downloading. Any way I can stop it or make sure it doesn’t update?
Cut phone on and off.....Ya the endless loop is killing me, hope it doesn't kill the battery
I've worked in test labs, written test plans, managed alpha and beta test programs, and released software to manufacturing. Releasing software that renders equipment inoperable is not a "it happens sometimes" situation. This is especially so for a single-box, fixed-configuration appliance like a HomePod. That's a rare and serious level of incompetence.
Just when you thought Siri couldn't get any more useless.
All four HomePods are dead. Thanks, Apple. Thanks, Craig Federighi. Google doesn’t even need to try. Apple is beating themselves up.
Ugh, Xfinity data use is climbing super fast. Airplane Mode all the things!Same boat and I’m worried about my data cap, so I unplugged my HomePods to make sure I’m not stuck in a download loop. Guess I effectively have bricked HomePods, but still on 12.4 when I bring em back online. I feel for others who need replacements.
Side thought — do HomePods download updates directly or via an iPhone or iPad? Even with my HomePods unplugged and offline in Home.app, my iPhone still says downloading (prob a bug). Taking my iPhone off WiFi tonight just to be sure.
Same as you but.....sure you can update from the iPad?I'll let you know shortly. Updated to iOS 13.2 on iPad and iPhone, now using iPad to update the HomePod.
HomePod is still under AC+ warranty so I'll roll some dice.
how about creating a more robust Q/A department.
I was fortunate that I started updating when I saw this announcement and immediately killed the Home app when I read the bricking. Most likely saved my 3 HomePods. Tuned off auto updates in Home app and then called my friend to do the same. That’s both of mine bricked. I started updating about 10 minutes before I saw this article.
Have to agree with this. Not sure why Apple is chasing Netflix. Imagine how better iCloud could've been if the same resources were poured into it instead of the TV shows. As an (admittedly very small) shareholder, I see more value in doing good software QC than pushing mediocre TV shows into a crowded market.
My HomePod alarms goes off every morning without fail...which is important since I use this instead of an alarm clock! I purchased it over 1-1/2 years ago (I think). The only 'problem' I have been having recently is that the last update did something unpleasant to Siri, who is now very slow to answer and responds to my TV all of the time. Annoying. Fortunately, this article was here to warn me to turn off the automatic update which would have otherwise happened! I didn't really buy it for Siri, as generally I don't find this 'assistant' to be very useful as it is so very limited (and I knew that when I made the purchase). I wanted this for music streaming, compatibility with my Mac, iphone, ipad, etc. and eventually to connect to an AppleTV. Which last one I haven't gotten around to as I don't really think the ATV is a great product; I'm happy with my Roku for now.Anyone else forget they even own a HomePod? Alarms stopped working updates ago and so ended my use of it.
