Point being Apple and HomeKit have potential but the clown at the top of the company is too focused on human rights and services that he has forgotten what made them great. Hardware and software controlled by one. Stay focused. But clearly this is the beginning of the end and I’m now looking into HomeKit alternatives
I am a retired EE with a lifetime of automation at the utility transmission level. Really been disappointed in the progress of the HomeKit and the devices that support it. Apple could clean the other's clocks if they would only focus on it. But, it seems like an afterthought.

They should have a solid product offering, routers that support it with many device support (think Plume) and software that actually allows easy functions like timed events with switches as well as other event based triggers. Key word is easy and imbedded into the switch itself instead of writing convoluted scenes and automation simply to turn a bathroom exhaust fan off after 20 minutes.

I picked the Apple eco system, since 1984 starting with the Mac 128k, so I could accomplish things easily, securely, reliably, and privately. They have missed the mark on with the 13 updates.

Unfortunately I have not found any alternatives that provide the features promised by HomeKit and I certainly am not letting Amazon and Google into my house anymore then they are now.

The Home app says it's running 12.4 and it's the latest. How is that?

The device is working just fine.

Mine is totally bricked. Can't reset it in any way. I've been using apple since the IIe and this the first time I've ever had a bricking situation. i'm really bummed. On phone with support now. They are getting LOTS of calls. Doesn't look like there is a software solution so the agent is asking her manager to just send me a brand new one.

Gotta admit, that's INCREDIBLE support. But it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Are you still under warranty? Mines isn’t and I don’t have AppleCare. Does anyone know if Apple will still fix since they caused the situation?

In the home app it has downloaded three times and instead of giving the option to "install" once it's downloaded, it keep going back to the "download" option again. Pretty sure I've wasted 4 GB of bandwidth on this already today.

Me too - I gave up.

I think the update has been pulled. 🙄

Mine is definitely still there available for installation, but maybe that's because it had already downloaded into Home.app.

mine totally took a s*** and bricked. will apple be able to replace it under the 1 year warranty? could i bring it to an apple store? would rather do that instead of mailing it in. would contact apple support but they’re currently closed at the moment.

yeah, I think if you downloaded it, it's going to be available.

Thanks! Thankfully I turned off auto update before it managed to finish downloading.

Updated my two HomePods from work 4-5 hours ago. Said iOS 13.2 was installed. Didn’t think about it and when I got home things seemed fine. Siri answered various questions from my son and turned on and off lights in the house. I updated two iPhones and two iPads afterward to iOS 13.2 with no problems. I was about to add the voice detection but my son is in bed Then I read this thread.

I don’t know. Everything good but reading this thread has got me worried.

They might have pulled the update but even after resetting the HomePods, the update gets initiated again and starts breaking the connection with the HomePods. For now, I've reset them but no re-paired; hopefully a 13.2.1 will be out ASAP. Hopefully, I won't have to take them in for replacement like I did with an Apple 4K TV that got bricked during an update. Removing or not having a service port to allow firmware updates or restorals is ridiculous; Cook and company are penny wise and pound foolish. I think Tim Apple should focus much less on making mediocre TV shows and far more on getting back to the "it just works" philosophy.
