The top model of the new 13" Pro has an Intel Iris Plus Graphics chip (the lower models are listed as having Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645). Does anyone know how good this chip is for editing 4K. It's going to bet better than the Mac mini performance right?

That is what I expect to see as well.
I hope they might push the MacBook screen right into the corners iPad Pro style, letting them fit a ~13" display into the 12" design. The bezels around the 12" screen are thicker than other current gen machines, so this could be a good way to debut a new design language, like the original 12" debuted the current design language back in 2015! :D

The 2TB port MBP is such a weird product... it seems to exist just as a way to lower the entry price. It's clear Apple wants the 13" MBP to be a $1800+ device... but they don't completely ignore the entry model. It just gets updated at a weird cadence. The 2015 and earlier 13" MBP used to be decent value in the Mac lineup, now the 4TB model is probably the worst... and the pretty good value 2TB model is only minimally updated.

I kinda wish it was downgraded to function keys... I'd probably get that instead of the new Air.

Glad the whole lineup is done with the 128GB ssd... that took way too long.
Think of the entry level Macbook Pro 13" as the Macbook Pro 13 SE. Apple wants their devices in more hands for their focus on services.

Just purchased the iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard and thought about getting the recently announced MacBook Pro but I believe I can do most things I need to do with the iPad.

I have a new iPad Pro with MK coming. Final Cut Pro needs to come to the iPad. It's past time.

Ice Lake is a significant step up in graphics, the Iris plus in the new $1,799/$1,999 models should be getting on for MX250 (low end dGPU) type performance.

Can someone explain why Apple puts 802.11ax on the iPhone 11, but not on the Mac Pro and on the MacBooks, which were all released afterwards? It seems to me that Wi-Fi 6 is both more important and easier to implement on a computer than on a phone?

Yurk did a great job of explaining, but there's one more thing I'd like to add.

WiFi 6 has its greatest benefits in super populated areas, like shopping malls or sports centers. Areas where you have >100 devices on each access point. WiFi 6 allows these existing access points to be upgraded to manage a high number of connections (rather that needing to install additional access points). It makes more sense for a phone to support this than a laptop.

There simply aren't that many benefits of WiFi 6 for 99% of homes, they're really meant for extremely populated areas.

I like the update, though I'm a little surprised they didn't slim down the bezels - not that I care too much, I've never had a problem with them. The display is still utterly gorgeous.

I'm considering selling my current one which I bought in July last year during the education sale. I paid £1,600 for it, but I could probably get rid of it pretty quickly on eBay for £1,300 given it's in mint condition with charger, box etc. And then just pay the difference out of pocket for the new one with the better CPU/GPU, keyboard, physical escape key and T-shape arrows. That's worth £300 for me.

Yeah it's not really about the raw numbers at this point. The difference between, say, a 7th gen and a 10th gen i5 will still be enormous.
Slimming the top bezel would give you much less palm space. Your hands would rest on the edge - not as comfortable for extended typing.

I feel better about my 2020 Macbook Air purchase from last week. I was hoping to wait until the MBP was released, but it looks like the MBA is (still) the better choice for me as an average user. I would've needed to spend at least $300 more to get the 10th CPU based on my final config (i5/16GB/512GB).

Why Apple would offer a 2020 MacBook Pro with 8th Gen Intel? Crappy move Apple. If they keep offering underwhelming laptops for the money, expect the iPad Pros to continue to eat in to laptop sales. Maybe that’s the plan any way.

We asking Macbook Air to have atleast 3 thurderbolt ports; but for new 13" Macbook Pro base model looses 2 ports and no 10th gen processor. Noting to be exicited about this 13" Macbook upgrade. Apple did better job upgrading 15" Mackbook Pro and Macbook Air.
May be Apple Mac(macbook) team spending resources on next upgrade with new chasis,ARM,14.1"Wifi6,etc.

I was hoping for so much more. Desktop situation already made me move to hackintosh. Now I wish there was a fully hackintoshable modern laptop too.

Well, was waiting for this day. Now I’ve made a decision. My daughter graduates HS next month, and I wanted to get her a new laptop as a grad gift/for college. We both looked at the new Air on Saturday. She said it sounded good for her, but I told her I was waiting for the rumored MBP update.

Now, I know we are going to go with the Air. Nothing wrong with the MBP, but for what you get at that price, the Air is a much better deal for her use.

for a student the Air is the best deal. i5/512/512 with education price is a very good deal

i think they’ve been on a roll with the air and se2 pricing and features wise

this is a blunder tho. Not much exciting and a serious price gouge
This is true. I would also add the iPad Pro 2020. Boring upgrade to some but the 2018 was and still is way ahead of its time. But they still bumped RAM and storage while keeping costs the same.

Just a spec bump, nothing wrong that, new keyboard is welcome. Really poor that the base and mid-range 13" are still on 8th gen. Typical Apple.

If the size isn't a deal breaker, the $1799 13" makes the base 16" look very good value.

I'm assuming mini-Led, thinner Bezel's etc are six months away?

Apple Acts with MacBook Pro like they do with Iphone

When they released iphone 11 , they kept selling the XR at lower price
