If I take my 2018 MBP in for a keyboard replacement program, will they install this new keyboard (with separated ESC and TouchID) on it?
It's an entirely different case. You won't get this keyboard. Perhaps, after enough failures of a given computer, Apple would replace it with a totally new computer.

SE actually has a function of attracting more people into the Apple ecosystem where they can be enticed to making future contributions to services revenue, Watch, Mac, etc.

exactly, not only that those customers who really doesnt want to upgrade their old iphones and doesnt want to spend a lot are the target of that product and that's a big market right there

that's better than not getting any single one of those customers at all.

Have it fixed three times at the Genius Bar and they'll replace it.

how long does it take for the keyboard to be replaced?

Two weeks ago I've changed battery in my rMBP 13" 2013 after replacing broken display cable last fall (LCD backlight went dead). Backlight on keyboard doesn't work any more from last fall. It's still OK for most tasks and I hope to replace it on fall (after it reaches 7 years). At least now there is an option to buy as I was waiting for scissor keyboard, 16GB DDR4 and 512 GB SSD to become base model :)

The iPhone 11 and 2020 SE have Wi-Fi 6 and better cameras. What gives, Apple?
In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see 720p cameras in all their laptops, until the inevitable ARM MacBook and iPad Pro take over as part of Apple’s master plan.

I need to replace my ancient 2010 MBP (yes, still runs... barely). My budget is $1500-1800. I do some light video/music editing and simple gaming. Mainly, I want this thing to last 6-7 years minimum. Which should I get?

MB Air 1.1 GHz Quad i5 (10th gen) - 16 GB Mem - 512 GB SSD ($1499)
MB Air 1.2 GHz Quad i7 (10th gen) - 16 GB Mem - 512 GB SSD ($1649)
13" MBP 1.4 GHz Quad Core i5 (8th gen) - 16 GB Mem - 512 GB SSD ($1599)
13" MBP 2.0 Ghz Quad Core i5 (10th gen) - 16 GB Mem - 512 GB SSD ($1799)

Overall, I'm sad this upgrade for the MBP didn't include an upgraded camera (720p... really?) and up it to 14". I'll have to buy something soon. So these 4 are what I'm looking at.

Those comparing the MBA with the 4TB MBP should have a look at this... 9W vs 28W is basically a 1 to 3 proportion all the way in terms of performance.

i guess the value is with the i5, the i7 is just 7% better at best!...

maybe that customer is one of few/many that want to keep the new mbp for the next 5-6 years....for someone who change it almost every 2 years is not a big deal...

Here's what I don't get:

Apple will sell you an iPhone which has WiFi 6 and say how great it is.
Apple will sell you an iPad which has WiFi 6 and say how great it is.
Apple will sell you a new MacBook Pro without WiFi 6 and say how great it is.

Is there something I'm missing here?

Now let's do FaceTime cameras:

Apple will sell you an iPhone that has 4K/1080P front camera and say how great it is.
Apple will sell you an iPad that has 1080P front camera and say how great it is.
Apple will sell you a new MacBook Pro that has a 720P camera and say how great it is.

Again, am I missing something here?

Did Apple make an error on their product page? I don't see any listings for a 2.3ghz base, 4.1ghz turbo core i7 4-core processor that's 10th gen.

I do see an 8-core 5.1ghz turbo 10875H. Is that it?

No, it's not the 10875H- Apple isn't using an 8-core CPU. This wouldn't be the first time Apple uses a previously-unpublished Intel CPU.

WiFi 6 is barely out, not having shouldn't be an issue for the majority of consumers.

it’s two fold though

first, competitors using the same intel chips have wifi 6 - so the perception is this should be included

second, I would argue majority of consumers buying this product will be keeping it for at least 4-5 years and wifi 6 may be ubiquitous at that point in time

You are missing a degree in marketing, that is all.

I know you're probably right that for the majority of consumers it's not an issue but... This is a MacBook Pro that starts at $1299. Not including WiFi 6 is a cheap move by Apple and just shows how much they are half-assing this release. This is a computer that most people keep for more than 5 years and it's Apple's best laptop in the 13" range. It would have been understandable if a lower-end laptop didn't have the best specs but there is simply no excuse for Apple here other than being cheap and lazy.

MacRumors: Apple is using faster 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory...
Me: Wow, let's buy one of this thing!
Also MacRumors: ... and the old 720p FaceTime HD camera
Also Me: Oh hell nooooo

I hope everyone pining for a 14” MacBook Pro realizes it is going to have an Arm-based CPU in it and not an Intel-based CPU. Can’t wait to hear people’s heads exploding on that day. It will be glorious!
Good point!

get the Macbook Pro 10th gen, the ones on the Air wont really do massive improvements because of the lack of cooling.

Apple’s solutions are customer designed and not simply Intel’s reference board crap. No one here seems to have a real love for Intel’s cellular modems, so the love for their Wi-fi chips is somewhat mystifying.

“May be” is the operative word here. Wi-Fi 6 may be ubiquitous or it may not. 802.11AC is so much better than 802.11G or 802.11N that I get the sense most people are happy enough with AC to not make it an issue outside of the tech obsessed crowd.

Mine was replaced in 3 days, within 2 weeks the period key started to misbehave, all the Apple Shops are closed so I live with it.

Other Intel 8th gen parts are going end-of-life. The fact that Apple retained them suggests this is a stop-gap, although they might just drop the 2TB port MBP entirely once 8th gen supply dries up.

Overall though, how lacklustre.

Can you explain to me what exactly you want from the WiFi 6 standard for your home?
Now maybe it is not relevant. But if you pay 2k dollars you might want something more futureproof.
Rich people might be changing laptops every 2 years, but most of us who purchase a laptop for 5-7 years of use want
to be sure that their laptop will still be relevant in 5 years from now.
