The base 13” Pro is considerably faster than the 13” Air at CPU-intensive tasks.
Not as simple. It's 14% slower at single-core. It is, however, 44% faster at multi-core.

It’s simple. I’m comparing current model MBA and MBP with the same i7 quad core processors. I’m expecting the MBP to edge the MBA on benchmarks because it’s clocked faster, but again I doubt it will make a dramatic difference to the end user. That’s been my point since you jumped in. If you have those benchmarks fine, but I doubt you do since the MPB went on sale this morning. If you want to post outdated comparisons or comparisons not relevant to my post or to real parity, have at it, but that’s neither what I was talking about nor an apples to apples comparison.
This does not change the fact that they are better than Intel integrated graphics. We can rehash the specs all day but my point is the MacBook Pro needs to offer a better option than Intel integrated graphics like they did in the past.
Hit the nail on the head. If I were buying a Mac laptop today, I would get that $1,799 13" MBP model.Never wait for a product that hasn't been announced, unless the current available products absolutely don't fulfill your needs.
Right now, a good bang for the buck:
- the MacBook Air (especially the middle CPU option: for $100 more, you get four cores)
- the $1799-and-up 13-inch MacBook Pro
- the $2399-and-up 16-inch MacBook Pro
Not so great a bang for the buck: the lower-end 13-inch MacBook Pro configs. You're probably better off with an Air, or to spend more on a $1799 Pro.
You can get the 10th generation Intel CPU on the MacBook ProSo if I got this right..
I get a 10th Gen Intel i3/i5 with the MBA for LESS money, but can't make use of the full potential, because of bad thermal design/semi-passive cooling.
But I get a 8th Gen Intel i5 for MORE money with the 13" MBP, which could've made use of the potential of the 10th Gen, due to a more or less proper thermal solution. And on top of that I can't get 16 GB of RAM without paying more than 2k.
Is this a joke?
With my old MacBook Air slowing down right now, I'm seriously considering to switch over to Windows laptops. I love MacOS but this doesn't make sense anymore. I can get a well-built Win laptop with 1 TB SSD, proper cooling, 16 GB RAM for around 1k. And can even swap some components if needed.

Oh geez it's sad how many people try to defend this.As Zdigital2015 pointed out, when the 13-inch did have NVidia graphics, they even used shared memory, so there were never truly discrete graphics on a 13-inch MBP.
The Core i5 is a 1038NG7. The i7 is exactly right.Intel doesn’t keep the ARK updated as soon as Apple releases a new computer. @smulji and a couple of other users had the 411 on these unpublished CPUs that Apple is using in the 13” refresh.
Core i5-1035NG7 and Core i7-1068NG7

Whatever they are technically called they were far superior than Intel integrated graphics. Let me repeat that.

Did you get the part about them being far superior to Intel integrated graphics? If not I can repeat it.
Put it at the bottom like Dell did!! People will love it...just ask Dell customers! How do you get good webcams on laptops with tiny bezels?

Amazing! For those that previously were paying the $200 upgrade costs for each of 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, this is a massive price drop! PLUS you get a newer processor and a better keyboard!
Even the i7 upgrade is $100 cheaper than before.
It's not really one. it's a stopgap before actual new features are added. The keyboard is fixed so that's good, but this model should not have been necessary.Wow, you’re right. Not even Wi-Fi 6. What kind of a refresh is this?![]()
You suspect incorrectly. Apple is not switching it’s entire lineup to ARM. Read - NOT HAPPENING. An ARM-based MacBook is what you’re getting next year. Not a MacBook Pro, not an iMac, not a Mac Mini... a small laptop with an ARM processor - maybe. After that - who knows?I suspect this is the last design or spec iteration we will see until ARM processors a year from now.
What a dumpster fire, lol. On an otherwise amazing machine, too.Put it at the bottom like Dell did!! People will love it...just ask Dell customers!
I foresee a LOT of Core i7/16GB/1TB configurations.
$250CAN to go from 512GB on the $2349CAN (top selection) to 1TB .. yet it's $500CAN to go from 16:32GB RAM eek.
that speed is insane!
Anyone that points to the Dell XPS 13 9300(2020 model) ... keep that junk. I eyeballed it yet seeing the crap quality of that screen ... I'll stick with Apple.
It's possible this is the last notebook update before an ARM Mac is launch, but you're right, I can't see the pro models going to ARM before we get new notebook features on the MBP line. You suspect incorrectly. How much better is the graphics speed on the quad-core MBA vs the lower end MBP now? Or is it better?not sure how to respond except to say I am transparent in comparing the base 2020 MBP which has the same internals as 2019 and since we don't have the 2020 in hand and benchmarked using the same spec 2019 as reference, to the most popular 2020 Air configuration which is the i5 quad core.
i5 quad core 10th gen lower voltage Air against i5 quad core 8th gen higher voltage Pro. Near price parity too, if not a little cheaper on the air (i5 upgrade is +$100 from the base i3/8/256 making it $1099, or you could get the same i5 with 8/512 in a preconfigured for $1299) vs. $1299 for the base 2020 Pro.
If you don't like it, fine. But there has been no deception: I am comparing similar cores, i5, and prices.
i7 Air vs i7 Pro, at completely different price points, when its been repeatedly stated the i7 Air is mostly a waste of money and subject to throttling, is moving away from the main point that the 2020 Pro base models aren't that great.
