What in Wifi 6 will help you in the next 5 years?
Do you even know?

Which are much thicker where the camera is located.

WiFi 6 is in the iPhone 11/11 Pro/SE and iPad Pro right now.... so....

I'm ok with it being a little thicker to accommodate a better camera.

wow, they still selling 8th gen processors for base/mid level option as "new" options. At least the keyboard will be improved. $1800 min for the 10th gen i5 processor option... Ouch
There is no “mid” level option. There are two models: the less expensive ($1,300), less powerful two Thunderbolt 3 model, and the $1,800 four Thunderbolt 3 model. Only the four TB3 got a CPU upgrade today.

The model you’re calling mid-level is just a standard config of a 512GB SSD model.

Any thoughts on 10th gen i5 vs i7 performance? My most intensive use would be a few CPU-hungry VST instruments (U-he) but in general would prefer cooler operation and longer battery life if the difference isn't that stark. i5??

I7 faster in term of Hz
I7 cache lv 3 = 8 MB as I5 cache Lv 3 = 6 MB. but I don't know the influence of this difference

Damn - I was ready for this but wanted a 14" design like the 16". Now I wonder if it's worth this over the MacBook air. I want 16gb of ram...touchbar looks more annoying than useful to me. How much better would an entry level MacBook pro be over the Macbook air with the same ram?
Pro has better cooling I think

I honestly don't understand everyone's obsession with bezels. What's the practical difference in a couple of millimeters? It's certainly not going to affect my purchasing decisions.
There's space on the lid and they don't use it, for no good reason. Your display is your main point of interaction with the device and yes it matters. Having even an inch more screen can mean that suddenly those two applications you often use together can now go comfortably side by side. That can increase productivity substantially. In my experience my exact display setup is the single most important factor when it comes to that. That's why people obsess over Apple wasting away valuable space to make sure you have half an inch of black plastic to stare at.

Whatever Apple had done with these 2020 MBPs there would have been an avalanche of anti posts here, we all know that. Touch Bar doesn't appeal to me and I would have liked to see an SD slot, I use the one on my 2015 MBP for on-board Time Machine backup, super convenient. But you know what? I think the 2020 range are the best Mac notebooks for years, I think feature for feature they're price competitive with Windows machines, and I'm sure the vast majority of buyers will be delighted and (most important this) stay delighted for year after year. I almost wish my MBP would start giving me trouble so I could justify a new one!

This is dumb. No company is going to hold something back for a possible future sale if that something would result in a sale now. There will always be something to add in the future.
A few..
- Like they core that was disabled on the A12 and only recently have the technology to unlock it for the new iPad A12x
- Apple doesn’t have the ability now to put in higher quality cameras?
- MBA has the best panel available?
- 2 1/2 years to update airpods and over 2 1/2 years still for AppleTV. Don’t think could update sooner but chooses timelines.

What planet are you on? Spec for spec, with similar construction, the Windows laptops are all about the same prices. What can be found are even more expensive 13” laptops with Nvidia GPUs for much more. In my opinion, Apple is missing something to compete with the Razer Blade Stealth. It’s a beast. Also more expensive with its Nvidia GPU.

razor is notorious for it’s horrible customer service when you need support. Sure you get USB-A ports and a dedicated GPU ~ which I WISH this years 13" MBP finally would have ~ it's all in the old 2012-2015 MBP design case. That's needed to accommodate the heat threshold by the dedicated GPU.

I don't know why I keep hoping for a dedicated GPU in the 13" MBP lineup since 2008, when I know that Apple has NEVER granted such a card in any MBP lower than 14". The predecessor being the 12" MBP I think had 1 iteration for a dedicated GPU unless I'm mistaken.

And they significantly lowered the trade-in values of existing Macs.. I have a 2017 15", Last week the trade in was $980, today its dropped to $800. I'm going to keep what I have, if it was a 14" I might've considered it, but to go back to 13" and lose almost $200.. Sorry!

NOBODY should be using Apple's, outsourced, trade-in service if you expect to have decent value for your well cared for used Apple product. It's outsourced by Brighthand which for years prior has always underhanded trade-ins. Apple should purge the middle-man, offer better trade-in value to customers (reasonably of course/close to grey market value), and take control of all the shipping and disassembly internally or via Foxconn).

I suggest trying your hand on local kijiji or similar market - after a few backups - then order today's kit and be fully into joy joy.

The horizontal difference between a 13.3" and 14" screen is less than 0.6". Is that going to be a critical factor in whether two applications can be displayed side-by-side?

Sure it can be, I actually had this really annoying issue with an application that just wouldn't resize to a width of 640px. Also many websites switch to their mobile view at that width. The real question is: why settle with less than what is possible? That's the logic I don't understand. Why defend Apple here? Would you also argue it doesn't matter if they put a 0.6" smaller screen inside in the next generation?

Can you explain to me what exactly you want from the WiFi 6 standard for your home?
I got myself WiFi 6 router to increase download/upload speeds from my home NAS which is connected via 10Gbe interface. Benefits are huge, as I can download using my iPad Pro 2x faster over 802.11ax than ac. So isn't it enough good reason ? I'm totally disappointed I cannot have MacBook Pro with the chip which will allow me to fully benefit from my expensive router.

Lots of people posting as if Wi-Fi 5 routers all over the world are going to stop working or disappear and suddenly be replaced with Wi-Fi 6 ones. What is the obsession here?
LoL, keep in mind some of us already have WiFi 6 routers and we want end devices which can fully benefit from it (like higher download/upload speeds).

Sigh, I see there are still folks out here who don’t understand chip yield. The 8th core was not intentionally held back. It was disabled due to chip yield, as is common place in processor manufacturing.

As previously mentioned, the $1799 is now a much better value vs the previous few releases. Space Grey of that model is what I will likely get this time.
