OCZ uses a Samsung controller. If you got it working- that's good for me cuz I bought a Corsair--also Samsung.

The Vertex uses a Indilinx controller, not a samsung. I have the 128GB version of this drive awaiting the 13" I might buy this afternoon.

Hello fuzzielitlpanda
I think that this is a bit offtopic, but here goes. I just notice that you have the low end of the new Macbook Pro's. If possible you could do a test with GeekBench and send me the results, or posted here. I want to buy one, but I would like first to know the outcome of this test.

Greetings and sorry for the inconvenience.

amazing apple can't answer this. if they are blocking 3rd party drives now -- that is really extreme. Tons of people use those intel SSDs. Did you try intel support?

Apple already stated that they don't care. They just won't try and keep it working nor 'block' it.

I confirm bootcamp installs no problem.

I have basic 15" MBP just got today, first thing is swap out HDD with 160GB Intel X25-M G2.

Installed OSX with DVDs, smooth. Partitioned using bootcamp for 32GB for Windows OS, installed Win7 64bit, smooth.

Only one issue, magic mouse gestures (2 finger swipe page back/forward) will not work in Win7.

EDIT: I did upgrade the SSD firmware before I install all software, if this makes any difference, I don't know.

Awesome, thanks for sharing.

That is good news. super odd the other guy had problems...maybe he has another model Intel?

well i just tried it again with no luck. it's either a problem with the X25-V or the 13" MBP and 3rd party SSDs. anyone with a 13" MBP try it yet?

To the OP:

Congratulations on the new laptop. Could you please comment on the temperature/heat during heavy use? Some iStat readings would be awesome!

I currently have a 2.53GHz last gen 13.3" and it gets up to 100 degrees C in heavy use. I am looking at buying the new 2.4 instead if it's any cooler.

Did you try creating a partition? I was reading somewhere that you do the wipe of the disk. then create a partition. choose gguid (not sure about intials but something like that). Then clone.

My corsair 256 worked perfect. The only problem I had is I didn't have the tools to take out the mounting screws on the stock drive. Do you guys think I even need them for the SSD? it seems so snug?

Yes, the SSD was formatted using GUID partition. I would try to get those mounting screws out of the stock drive to mount the new drive.

I thought the problem was my Intel X25-V not being compatible, so I went out and got an Intel X25-M 80GB G2 that has been confirmed working by others in this thread. Set up everything as normal and the same exact problem occurred; bootcamp partition successfully configured in OSX, but once you get into the Windows 7 installer, no drives are detected. At this point, I think there is a problem with 3rd party SSDs and the new 13" MBP. If anyone can confirm this for me, that would really help.

Any success yet? This worries me, can I buy the intel ssd for my new 13" MBP?

I figured it out. Use a 32 bit version of Windows 7. I had two oem copies, 32 and 64, the 64 didn't detect any drives while the 32 did. Though, I might wait till this issue is fixed unless you don't mind a 32 bit operating system.

UPDATE: Never mind, I can't replicate the results again. I'm just gonna try rerunning the installer till it shows up.

both 32/64 bit should work fine. I decided to retry the install again. After a couple of failed attempts of recognizing the drive, it all of a sudden started working. Although I was able to install win7 on bootcamp, there is still a problem with recognizing the bootcamp partition: if you set bootcamp to reboot into windows, you may get a flashing folder with a question mark on it. this indicates that the machine doesn't have a designated boot partition, which means even if you're lucky enough to get windows installed, there will still be problems. NOTE THAT IS IS ONLY FOR THE NEW 13" MBP.

@Fuzzie,

I don't why you're a glutton for the fustration dealing with Boot Camp in the first place. IF you're issues are with teh 3rd party SSD & Boot Camp drivers for Win7 then forego using Boot Camp all together.

Use Parallels 5 Desktop; install it, then install Win7 (all will take you less than 1.5hrs) and you should be all set. Yes you can install antivirus on the VM - use Windows Security Essentials (its must less overhead than Symantec/McAfee/etc and it has the spyware/trojan removal built-in).

I've done all the above in my post and I have no issues ... except for my trial version of Win7 Enterprise driving me insane with registration reminders. Also I don't have an SSD drive in my uMB (aluminum) - which uses 9400m but the same P8600 C2D as your 2010 MBP 13". I too have 4GB RAM and my 5400rpm 320GB may not be comparable but its worth a shot.

I thought about using parallels or vmware, but they don't fit my needs. I didn't buy a mac because of OSX. Sometimes, I'd just prefer to use windows. Having to boot into OSX just to start up a virtual window doesn't work for me. Bootcamp worked great on all my previous macs, so I want to stick with it.

Problems don't get solved by ignoring them. If it really is a problem with all new 13" MBP, I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate a solution. If enough people are able to duplicate the problem, a fix is likely to be pushed out quicker.
