I wonder if you could try to just partition the drive (do not use bootcamp) format it as fat32 then try booting into Win 7 installer. I wonder if it is specifically something with bootcamp. Windows 7 should be able to install on an EFI system (so bootcamp is only really needed for the drivers).

mine is 2.66 Hz 320HD
ive been trying to install window7 on mine but i got no luck

first, using boot camp, then i got window 7 installed but the problem was that the drivers werent working, i got no sound, no right click, no brightness control, only wifi works.
IF you guys figure it out PLZ PLZ let me know

Any news about this issue. Would like to buy a 13" macbook and upgrade it with an Intel X25-M ssd but don't like the bootcamp issue :(

I'm curious about this too. There's plenty of programs that will partition a drive.

have you inserted the snow leopard installation disc 1 that came with your mac? and have you installed bootcamp support in windows?

I have a new MBP 13" 2.4 and I installed my Intel X25 G2 160gb and I was able to Bootcamp it fine with no problems

Nice, how much more faster is your MBP with the SSD. I'm going to buy the exact same machine you have maybe if the 15" MBP problems takes too long to get fixed. :)

This is great news. Can you confirm that you are working with the : Intel 2.5" 160GB SATA, X25-M Postville version and which firmware are u using?
Bootcamp and which OS. Default partitioning of the SSD?

I have a Intel X-25 M G2 160 GB SSD inside a 13'' 2010 macbook pro...

Never had a problem.

I have it like this for a week now.

I have the latest intel firmware but it worked as well before I made the update.

How did I install everything?

1- Using the mac osx installation disk I partitioned the disk in 3 partitions:
1. Mac HD extended...
2. windows ms-dos fat
3- extra ms-dos fat

2- Installed mac osx.

3- Inserted the windows 7 installation disk and when the blank screen comes up after rebooting keep alt pressed.
Wait a moment until the windows installatin disk appears and select it.

4- When configuring the windows installation reformat both ms-dos fat partitions I have created earlier.

5- Choose the 2 partition and install windows 7.

I would stick with the 15" if you can afford it. I think the 15" is the perfect mix of portability and performance. I am loving my MBP with a SSD. I've used computers for years and this is the single best upgrade I've seen for day to day computing. I only went with the 13" because I'm a student and I'm very limited with money.

I've read that this is the possible workaround to the problem. However, I think most people would prefer to use the bootcamp assistant and get everything working. Thanks for posting your results though. Either way, the end result is the same

@Martini-man :

Thanks man! Now I know that the Intels can work so I'm buying one.

is there much difference using the way the guy used above, rather than using bootcamp? what would be the main differences?

thanks

None...

Except I have a 3rd partition...

Once you install bootcamp through the CD that came with your macbook pro it all stays like it should be...

oh wow, so you absolutely have not run into any problems, such as not seeing the partitions or anything? and everything works fine and dandy? this is great news if you could confirm this

just curious..why is it necessary to create the 3rd ms-dos partition? some type of backup?

No problems at all...

The only problem I get is that my macbook pro 13'' 2010 can't make more that 4:30 hours and it runs hotter than 50º C.

A replacement is on its way but that doesn't have anything to do with bootcamp.

Just the way I do stuff since ever...

When I want to format the windows partition I just have to backup some folders.

All the other stuff is on that thir partition which is D:\

You can still do this with 2 partitions only.

I know that Win 7 creates a system partition that about 100MB. I do believe boot files are stored in that partition.

If there is no space left it doesn't create that partition.

Only if you delete the partitions you have previously created and you create new ones with the windows installation feature.

has anyone else been able to replicate this procedure successfully?

Any updates on this, or anyone able to replicate what martini man did?

I can confirm that a Windows 7 installation to a SSD placed in the OptiBay using an external USB DVD drive can be done. I successfully completed installation of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to a Crucial SSD C300 256 GB drive loaded in the OptiBay, albeit with some difficulty. The Western Digital 750 GB HDD remains in the HDD bay and is loaded with Snow Leopard as well as all my media and documents. I access the Mac OS X drive using Mediafour MacDrive V8.0.5.31 and it seems to be reliable up to this point.
During the installation I was forced to restart several times before the drive was recognized. The first installation made it through 2 reboots before I received a "Bootmgr is missing" error and had to start over. I also received an error that the USB DVD driver needed to be loaded, but I just restarted again a couple of times and it finally worked. I also have rEFIt installed on the Mac OS X drive just in case, although I'm not sure if it was necessary.

Would love to hear anyone confirm these instructions work. Work as in never any issues with partitions not being seen on the SSD.
