yes i did...but only after finishing the installation of windows 7...so i dont think it had anything to do with it. I did remember to check the version of my bootcamp prior to installation. it was like 3.0.2 or something like that, but not 3.1

i was able to install windows 7 via bootcamp on my 13" new macbook pro with 160gb intel SSD.

Did you follow normal procedure? Just making bootcamp partition disk and then do a plain Windows 7 installation?

And you had no issues with finding SSD partition, neither during install or boot thereafter?

What revision/part# for the 160 GB Intel SSD? Could it be a new series / different firmware.

And it is a 2010 model of the 13" MBP?

-Yes

-Actually I had a small problem finding the SSD partition right after creating the windows partition via bootcamp. Heres how i got around it. After taking a chunk of space from my MAC OS partition for my windows partition, it asked me to begin the installation of Windows 7. However by doing this, my computer would restart and then Windows 7 installation would not be able to find any partitions at all. BUT, for some reason if you instead canceled the installation for Windows 7 at that point, closed out of bootcamp, and THEN went directly back to open Bootcamp again to begin the windows installation, I was able to see all the partitions created and my MAC partitions.
-Also each time the laptop rebooted during installation, i had to hold "option" key so that it would boot to the windows partition to finish the installation

-Im not exactly sure which revision/part# the SSD is, but using XBENCH, the drive type is INTEL SSDSA2M160G2GC, bought it about a month ago.

-Yes

For the people who have managed to get windows installed, do you have any problems switching over and using it? or does the partition not always show up?

Edit: I ask because I have other ways to get windows 7 on the ssd, but its rather pointless if I can't get to reliably boot

Well, I didn't use Boot Camp to install Windows 7 and my SSD (Crucial C300 256 GB Firmware V02) is sitting in the OptiBay as a separate hard drive, but I've never had a problem "seeing" the drive when starting. I don't need rEFIt to allow access to the SSD upon rebooting; just pressing the ALT key is enough. However, when the Mac OS X HDD is restored from sleep mode (lid closed then opened), I often receive an error pop-up that the "external drive wasn't ejected properly" and the SSD is no longer visible in Finder, requiring a restart. Also, I've noted on several occasions that the Mac OS X disk requires a repair (incorrect number of thread records reported) which can only be performed either from the installation DVD or the Windows SSD (using MediaFour MacDrive). I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my accessing the Mac OS X drive (read/write) from Windows or if the HDD itself is at fault (although the Western Digital drive is only 1 year old).

I also noted that if you want to start up using the Mac OS X installation DVD, you must have the Mac OS X disk selected as the start up disk for the DVD to be recognized. If you want to boot from the Windows 7 installation DVD you need the external USB drive connected via both USB connections to ensure adequate AC power (the MacBook Air drive WILL NOT WORK). Booting from a USB Flash disk works only with the Mac OS X installation image; the system will not boot from a Windows 7 installation image loaded onto a USB flash drive!

ive seen the windows partition there upon bootup pretty much 100% success so far

I am trying to install Windows 7 via Boot Camp, it does not seem to work. I have Intel X25-M 80GB G2. Nothing shows up when I have to choose the drive / partition.

Here's an update:

I just managed to install Windows 7 on my MBP 13 2.4

When I used the Boot Camp, no drives will show up during the installation. Then I tried pressing alt right after I turned on the MBP and choose the Windows Installation DVD. It worked! All the partitions showed up. After installation, I was on OS X, and chose the startup disk to be Windows. Once it reboots, I get a folder icon with a question mark on the screen and cannot boot into Windows 7. So I turned off the computer, turn it back on, pressed alt right after power comes on, I chose the Windows partition, then I was able to boot into Windows.

I hope Apple fixes the Boot Camp soon. I am pretty sure the problem comes from the Boot Camp.

Hi,

I actually did not finish the entire Windows installation, it locked up at the second part of the installation, where it says "Completing Installation..." After that, I restart the computer and have to delete that partition and create a new partition and try to reinstall Windows again. I tried installing more than 6 times now and I cannot get past the second part of the Windows installation.

Do anyone have a similar problem?

So i wanted to comment on this. I was able to install bootcamp on my machine with some minor glitches but it worked and i didn't have any issues until windows updates started installing. Now whenever i try to select the bootcamp partition, i get a flashing folder with a question mark. Anybody ever run into this issue?

Yes, a lot of people have seen this problem. The quick fix is just to shut down and then turn it back on. Unfortunately, the problem won't be fixed unless a bootcamp update comes out.

So I guess the consensus is, that I cannot bootcamp on my intel x25m g2 ssd for now...

So windows 7 goes on vm fusion i guess? that is lame..

I was able to install Windows 7 64 bit to it's own OCZ Vertex 2 SSD and then dual boot on my new 13" MBP. I'm using a MCE OptiBay.

Only issue I have is Windows 7 doesn't seem to be running at SATA 2 speeds so installing Windows on a Vertex 2 was kind of a waste. At these speeds could have bought a lot cheaper SSD.

I'm getting the impression if you want to do Windows with an SSD the 2010 13" MBP is not the way to go. I seem to have found workarounds for most other MBP models to get SATA 2 speeds working.

Definitely call up Apple. I have no boot camp problems with an intel G2 SSD on my i7 15" MBP

GRR...why can't i get mine to work then?!?!

Set up freezes after loading files. I have a retail windows 7 professional disk too. I thought that it was because I had the drive in the optibay but after moving it to the original bay, it still did not help.

I really don't know. Most of the reports of boot camp/ssd issues have been with the 13" model (that i've seen.)

It should work. Call up Apple and have them help you out.

It's because the 13 still uses the nvidia chipset. That might be the culprit . Of course it works nicely with the intel chipset. So any 13 inch users got it to work? I'm stuck as well =/

UPDATE 2: I thought the problem was my Intel X25-V not being compatible, so I went out and got an Intel X25-M 80GB G2 that has been confirmed working by others in this thread. Set up everything as normal and the same exact problem occurred; bootcamp partition successfully configured in OSX, but once you get into the Windows 7 installer, no drives are detected. At this point, I think there is a problem with 3rd party SSDs and the new 13" MBP. If anyone can confirm this for me, that would really help.

UPDATE 1: Swapped the stock HDD back in and bootcamp install seems to work fine. Partitions were immediately recognized by my windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. Could Apple have blocked support for 3rd party SSDs somehow with these 2010 MBPs?

All those who have a 2010 MBP and a 3rd party SSD, please try setting up bootcamp and let us know if it works.

Has anyone successfully setup bootcamp on any of the new macbook pros? When I use boot camp assistant, I am able to set up the partitions. However, once I enter the windows 7 install, it doesn't detect any partitions at all (not even my mac partition).

I've tried both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 (home, prof, and ultimate). The SSD is an Intel X25-V 40GB

Confirmed working:

17" MBP with OCZ Vertex 256 GB SSD
17" MBP with Corsair 256GB SSD
15" MBP with Intel X-25M G2 160GB

Even my stock HDD did not show at first in the windows installer for 7 x64. I to use the built in Disk Utility in the windows installer to reformat the bootcamp partition. After that it all worked great. Not sure thats what you are seeing but I know that I did not see any available drives before i ran the disk utility in the installer.

I've just picked up a 13" MBP, so this thread makes interesting reading - thanks for creating it fuzzielitlpanda.

Is it possible to create a poll of people who have got a 13" 2.4Ghz mid-2010 Unibody MBP model to work with Bootcamp (Win 7) on the Intel X25-M G2 160gb SSD? (It seems that other sizes 15"/17" are fine, and other SSD drives can work in the 13")

I note that the following 13" owners all have problems:

RichieGP

Have you guys managed to resolve the problem?
Does upgrading the firmware on the SSD fix things?

I think there's 4 people who posted to say they got it working:

BASTI51 (Apr 26, 2010): "Got my new 13" on friday and got on tuesday already my new intel g2 160gb - works all fine with bootcamp / VMware F3 / Parallels..updated the firmware and used the SSD on a normal PC before i got my MBP..installation-CD was an windows 7 x64 (german)"

Akira81386 (May 3, 2010): "I have a new MBP 13" 2.4 and I installed my Intel X25 G2 160gb and I was able to Bootcamp it fine with no problems"

Martini-man (May 3, 2010): "I have a Intel X-25 M G2 160 GB SSD inside a 13'' 2010 macbook pro..."

undisturbed316 (Jun 2, 2010): "i was able to install windows 7 via bootcamp on my 13" new macbook pro with 160gb intel SSD."

----

Narse77 said it worked but didn't state if he/she has a 13" (?)

ssn637 used a "Crucial SSD C300 256 GB in an Optibay"

and a couple who stated it worked but didn't have a 13" MBP

Does the version of Windows 7 make a difference? (Home/Pro/Ultimate and 32/64-bit)

Hi there hobbsy,

It doesn't look like I can edit my post manually to add a poll. I may have to request a mod to do it.

No, I haven't been able to figure out the problem and I don't see a solution coming any time soon unless Apple is aware of the issue and working on a new bootcamp version. Upgrading the firmware did not help. It's not a big deal though; if I start up the laptop and see the question mark/folder icon (this is after having win7 installed on bootcamp already), I just shut down the machine and start it back up and it boots into windows just fine.

As an aside, if you look at all of the people who had success with their Intel SSDs in the new 2.4GHz 13" MBP, they all have the 160GB version. I don't think anyone with the 80GB version has had success with a smooth bootcamp setup.

I tried several versions of Windows 7 (Home, Professional, and Ultimate, 32/64 bit), but they all had the same result.

I just wanted to post that I was finally able to get my computer bootcamped with the Intel X25M G2 160gb SSD in a core i5 15" mbp.

I have read that my particular model is unaffected by the bootcamp issue, but nonetheless, my installation would hang every time it got to the end of "windows is loading files". It would hang for hours on end. After a number of different workarounds, I found that bootcamp simply does not work. I performed some serious research about this problem...and a lot of people on the net have had the same issue of windows 7 installation hanging (<---there I put in those keywords to help people find my post).

So what I did was simply
1. take out all my drives (I had my ssd in an optibay).
2. Plug ssd into main bay
3. remove all usb devices etc
4. use diskutility on the macosx disk to make 2 partitions: 1 macjournaled, 1 ms-fat32
5. put in windows 7 disk, ran the install and believe it or not pressed enter repeatedly (and this is what got me past the loading screen to the "windows is starting")
6. select the msfat32 drive and format it when it asks you which drive should windows go on
7. after the format just install as normal

outcomes
no issues with windows 7 at all. consistently shows up in my bootable devices. I installed a retail windows 7 professional 64bit.

what i realize now is that when you have multiple devices or drives plugged into your computer, windows, and your mac does a complete search of the drives etc...and that is what is causing the hanging at the apple screen and the windows installation. I am sure this does not relate to this thread, but I hope people who have issues can get some solutions from this post.
