glad to see someone was able to duplicate the problem. i was able to get it to work, but it was complete luck. try restarting the windows installer a few times. Eventually, it should recognize the ssd

I was able to install windows 7 after a few restarts, and it did work for awhile, but then eventually when in trying to get in windows 7, I would get a folder with a question mark, it only recognizes windows sometimes, I'm not sure if you are gettig similar problems

Yes, I got the same problem. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the machine still not being able to recognize the SSD under bootcamp. Me thinks an updated boot camp version should resolve this. I noticed that the more I tried to boot into windows, the less often I saw the folder with the question mark.

Yea I really hope they will issue an updated bootcamp soon, but it does seem like it's only happening with the new 13", the best I've done was being able to start windows 7 succesfully 5 times before consistently seeing the folder with the question mark, do you think apple will even care about this problem enough for them to resolve it?

Only if there is enough people reporting the problem, which is why I created this thread. You're right in that it looks like the problem only exists on the new 13" MBP.

To everyone else who plans to install a 3rd party SSD in the new 13" MBP, please try to set up bootcamp and let us know how it goes. I hope we can gain more support and make this more public.

..

Hi guys
Im considering budying a new 13'' 2,66ghz and then replace the stock drive with a Intel X25-M g2 160gb SSD disk

If my only wish is to use it in OSX and in Windows Xp/7 only through VMWare Fusion, will i be accfected by this "problem"? or is it only when you're using bootcamp?

the problem should only occur when using bootcamp...

i don't really think that it's the bootcamp drivers, because you didn't even install them; the only thing the bootcamp-assistant does is partitioning the drive. That can easily be done with another application

do you think it would help if we reported our problems to the tech sites such as engadget? maybe they can take a closer look at it and maybe it will become more publicized?

yes it would. can you report this thread to engadget and gizmodo for us?

do you think it would help if both of us sent a message to gizmodo and engadget? so it seems like the problem is happening to more than 1 person? or should they already assume its more than 1 person with this thread?

Yes, the SSD was formatted using GUID partition. I would try to get those mounting screws out of the stock drive to mount the new drive.

i have never used bootcamp, but i am wondering if the windows partition needs to be formatted as master boot record, while the osx partition is GUID.

same issue here, just got the 13" MBP 2.66GHz and replaced the HDD with an Intel X25M. Disk shows up fine in Disk Utility, created MBR partition and tried to install windows but no drive is showing up.
When using the standard drive the laptop shipped with, everything works fine.

Has anyone found a workaround for this issue yet?

Problems like this will probably have to be solved by intel and Apple working together. Hopefully it gets some attention.

of course it'll help if more than 1 more submitted the news. i just submitted

no, it doesn't have to. i used the stock hdd and performed the same steps as i did with the ssd and bootcamp works fine on it

i wouldn't call it a workaround, but if you keep restarting your windows installer, it will eventually recognize the ssd.

hmm that's unfortunate. I've also posted this problem on the Apple support forums and notebookreview.com. The only solution at this point is to make the problem more aware.

I just got the drive to show up. I was just restarting the machine over and over again until it finally found the drive. Not sure if it made a difference but that time I accidentally clicked on the Upgrade Windows menu first in the Windows installer, then hit back and restarted it and selected to do a fresh windows install, after which the drive showed up just fine

with the new 2010 13" pro is anyone experiencing no audio coming from the headphone jack in bootcamp? seems to be a problem quite a few owners are experiencing.

You guys just saved me $750! I'm still waiting for my 13" MBP and have already ordered the Select Bay HDD adapter with the intention of removing the DVD super drive and replacing it with a 256 GB Corsair SSD. I think I'll wait on that one...in the meantime, I suppose another HDD will do. Got plenty of those lying around, and having multimedia and office files on one drive makes clean installs a lot quicker. Let me know how it goes with the SSD!

Oh, by the way: Can anyone here upload the nvao.inf configuration file (or copy and paste its contents) from the Windows 7 64-bit Boot Camp installation folder? You'll probably have to extract the NVidia .cab file to find it...I'd like to modify the 320M configuration prior to receiving my laptop so I'm ready to go when it arrives. The only way to get my hands on it is from the installation DVD that comes with the 13" models, since the NVidia website doesn't provide any drivers for this GPU. I can alway wait until my notebook arrives and extract the .inf file myself, but this would give me something to do while I'm waiting.

So I'm not the only one

Hey guys,

I have the new Macbook Pro 13 and intel X25m G2 160GB SSD. Absolutely the same issues as everyone else. Anyone found a solution yet? I have had a pathetic chat with apple technical support who blamed it on the windows DVD and the SSD but refused to acknowledge that the problem may lie with the macbook pro (both the dvd and SSD work perfectly in my windows laptop)!! The gent in question eventually refused to help altogether and told me to remove the SSD and just use the HD that came with the laptop. Nice...guess that apple protection plan is really paying off.

Has anyone successfully used a 3rd party SSD with bootcamp and the new macbook pro 13? Any ideas why the problem doesnt affect the bigger macbook pros?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I also seem to have this issue.

Also, what kind of battery life are you guys getting in Windows 7? I get only about 3-3.5 from the advertised 10 when just doing online browsing and reading pdf's on a medium display brightness setting...

This is directly in Boot Camp by itself?! This isn't good. I agree this seems to be an ongoing problem and I feel ALL should submit to Apple's BootCamp feedback page ... however another user with similar SSD but direct from apple is getting VMWare Fusion 3 with Win7 over 6hrs with other use.

Definately a BootCamp revision is required ... possibly a firmware update?! Still a great machine.

Got my new 13" on friday and got on tuesday already my new intel g2 160gb - works all fine with bootcamp / VMware F3 / Parallels..updated the firmware and used the SSD on a normal PC before i got my MBP..installation-CD was an windows 7 x64 (german)

but i will delete the partion again because parallels made it really slow and set up MacOS SL new too, so i can report if i'll works again
