Do you actually use your laptop as a professional, or more of a web browsing and social media laptop? I use my computer for photo editing and quite often Photoshop alone consumes 15-20GB of RAM.

Sigh. That doesn't mean Photoshop will STOP WORKING if you do not have 15-20GB of RAM available.

We have a few people where I work on computers (desktops) with only 8GB of RAM and they do a lot of Photoshop work on images for clients. 8GB is fine for them.

When will people get it? Your use case does not equal everyone elses. Neither does mine, or Joe Somebody walking down the street. Get what system fits your needs.

Actually, yes. Plenty of functions I do on Photoshop don't work with only 16GB of RAM. Plenty of times I get an error message from Photoshop saying I don't have enough RAM to complete that action.

My point is that 32GB of RAM is required by many professionals, not just for bragging rights.

And? 128GB of RAM is required by some professionals too.

So don't say 32GB of RAM is just for bragging rights... That was the quote I was replying to.

Where did I say that? I didn't even have the word bragging in my post. I have 32GB of RAM on my desktop, and I need that since I need to run several VMs.

You get what you need.

You quoted me for some reason, when I was replying to the person who said "who needs 32GB of RAM besides for bragging right?". I never said everyone does, I was so Oly saying why people like myself do.

Wait, what? You only have 8GB of RAM? Your memory pressure is in the green too. How are you having issues?
Mine is the MacBook Pro that I bought two weeks before they bumped the baseline to 16GB. And since the RAM is soldered, I am stuck with 8GB. Pretty salty.
As for your question, I don't know why it's green. I guess the OS uses SSD as virtual memory and thinks that it's OK. But using SSD as RAM is going to shorten its life not to mention it's slower. Besides, MATLAB stopped responding after this SS. And that's my problem with the RAM. I just wanted to inform the ignorant guy that people who need huge RAM do exist.

Mmmh. Now we just need a chiclet keyboard and function keys again!

I recently went to a store to try out the tbMBP and it's a joke! Those butterfly keys are so flat and not great for typing at all. The touchbar is useless too. Unless somebody uses Apple's Pro Software the function keys will remain useful and be easier to use!

@xSeaside: I'd be happy if they had a physical esc key. Agree with you on the keys and the touch bar. It's a nice gimmick, but could have been a better implementation.

Are you sure it stopped responding due to RAM issues? It was probably something else. Look, even with your screen shot, 64GB is not enough RAM. It was using 66 GB. More than 64 GB. So even if Apple included 32 GB, you would still be having "issues".

I said "issues" because, your memory pressure is green. Even with an SSD, if there is a lot of swapping, your memory pressure will NOT be green. I do not think you are having any issues due to RAM. And BTW, your swap used was only 21 MB, NOT 60 GB.

See, this is the issue people have these days. They take what they see in Task Manager or Activity Monitor and treat that as 100% true. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY that 66GB of RAM was used if you only had 8GB installed WHILE HAVING green memory pressure. Windows and macOS do a lot of different memory optimizations now. We are not running Windows XP or Windows 2000 anymore. You cannot reliably "add up" all the processes RAM. Your screen shot is proof enough. You need to look at memory pressure instead.

I also find it very VERY frustrating hearing people complain "Well I got 64GB of RAM on my computer, and just booting it up it is taking up 8GB of RAM!!!!"

Also, there is NO way to prevent swapping. Even with 128GB of RAM, I notice some swapping. Some programs are programmed to do that.

And the punchline is it seems a few Apple pro software users like older way too. Looking down to see where the touch stuff a new step. Vice fingers flying like they have for years,

Well since apple is still advertising and vying for position in the video editing world with FCP.....Yes. Or they say well Adobe and Avid work on us too....come to our hardware to make your mark in the creative world.

And its not just video here....I know others more into graphics arts who are coming to realize being on a windows box does not have their graphics world come to a dire end.

And believe it or not, some who keep on about this stuff are thinking of apple long term. Heard the well I don't do hard core video. many will eventually to some degree. See with 4k a thing now...and even some going man 5k or not worth my time some will be seeing their video file sizes shoot up up up. Even on point and shoots.

Check the file sizes on these filmings for 4k. Usually will be in mb/s bit rates. I'd post a link..some zealot will say I posted loaded data. So find your own if you'd like. I use semi/pro standard codecs like apple pro res 422 for my shooting of 1080p 30 FPS (non 4k shooting what I do). This uses the same bit rate (actually a smudge less iirc) as most of your most compressed 4k codecs out there. The 4k codecs used on most consumer P&S hand cams when you press the record button.

Hard numbers: 45 minutes of video to me can be 75gb of file(s) created. This can easily be the same output as a best buy special "point and shoot" 4k video cam.

See here is where we see issues. And why we harp on say memory and video card choices. In time as some out there go beyond the 2 minute clip of Happy Birthday singing time at a party and expand...they will find in short order where things like video cards and 16 gb can be limiting. Especially as 4k grows with 5k coming in right behind saying don't get too comfortable man...I want your job.

And this is coming fast. I am considered old and updated by many at work because I don't have a 4k tv....and they go you don't shoot 4k? why? No need for me yet really...yet

See apple is hitting a bad spot. It can support 4k and 5k content...but when compared to other offerings out there its slowly becoming not the ideal choice to actually create that content for a growing number.

And its not because we are cheap (my favorite zealot defence). I have the money for a pimped out 2016 MBP. even the money for a decent MP. Thing is...I am seeing that money better spent elsewhere more as time goes on. Its the hardware options that is teasing me here. To the point I am not caring as much I have to ditch FCP and buy new licensing for video applications and plugins. If lucky if I do this I can write some plugin devs and plead to get a license conversion and get it. If not...yeah some are good enough I'd rebuy them. Would not be ear to ear smile happy about it but is what it is.

Calling people who don't buy Apple products 'cheap' is meaningless nowadays. It meant something in the past when most Windows laptops were cheaply made and you needed to spend around the same price to get Apple quality, but all Apple does nowadays is raise prices while quality laptops on Windows side gets cheaper and cheaper. You could argue 'MacOS is better' but MacOS has done nothing but get buggier and buggier as they simply add more features from iOS as well as strip functionality to make it 'easier'.

What features were stripped from MacOS to make it easier in your view?

Not sure what angle they had in mind...here is mine

the base Darwin core is gutted for one. I rely heavily on the homebrew project to get back convenient and easy CLI application functionality. A design trend I never really saw the point too. Guessing one angle is apple didn't want you doing "bad " things. Catch here, for me anyway, is...by and large people who work in CLI tend to know what they are doing. Or if in new territory we do it with due diligence.

Apple's safety net not really needed here imo. They can give us the full power, features and functionality of a FreeBSD CLI. As anyone who uses CLI knows sometimes bad things can happen when you press enter. risks accepted and move on. Most research and understand what they are typing and its impact before they press enter.

For the rest of the Mac OS users they never even go here so the CLI gimping a bit confusing at times.

I'm a programmer, I work with servers and the apps. I need to run virtual machine servers with the iPhone simulator so it's imperative to have lots of memory for this use. Really 32G is good, 64G great. I don't care at all for thinness. It would be great to have a 17" screen -- PLEASE have the option of a 17" screen, PLEASE Apple. A laptop with a 17" screen allows for bigger batteries, and it would be really great if the batteries would last days!

I broke out my old 17" PowerBook G4 to hook up an old airport express to my network (new airport utility won't even recognize it). I didn't realize how much I missed that screen.

In the article, it says production will begin in Q3 in July and Q4 in September. At the end, it says it'll be released in Q2. So, which is it?

FYI, the rumor is that this is set for 4th quarter release. Not really screwing existing customers if the release is one year after the previous generation.

The iPad 3 understandably has created a lot of FUD around release schedules.

I'm about to start a new job, I need to either let them own a 13" MBP for me to use, or share cost on any model I want. Need to figure out if I can wait for this refresh or not, and use my 2009 MP until then. Probably not :-/

Give me the option to get rid of the stupid touch bar, and make the keyboard better by increasing key travel, and I might consider it.

I upgraded from a 2011 MacBook Pro to a 2016 MacBook Pro with touch bar, and while I wasn't worried about the all usb-c design, I was worried about the new keyboard. playing with it in the store the key travel bugged me.

Now after using this for a bit over a month I can say that this is the best keyboard laptop I have ever used. I tried typing on my 2011 machine and the keys feel squishy and inaccurate. Up until this keyboard my 2011 MacBook Pro keyboard was the best I had ever used.

And it will cost $3000.

You are either behind the times or not in the Macbook Pro market: I've been paying ~$3,000 for my Macbook Pros since 2007, but I had to pass on the 2016 Macbook Pro with touch bar, because that actually came to $5,000 with a 2 TB hard drive, sales tax and Apple Care!!! So instead, I got a left over 2015 Macbook Pro for just $3,000, and it still had some legacy ports and an awesome keyboard.

$3,000 was already hard for me to stomach, and I might have gone to $4,000 for the 2 TB drive, but $5K for a cheap throw away notebook that can't be upgraded or repairs and probably breaks frequently? First time I simply HAD to draw the line at price.

Why would you pay sales tax? Depending where you live, ordering from Amazon or B&H avoids that.

15", 2.6GHz, 2TB lists at $3799, AppleCare is $349 for a total of $4148.
