Everybody saying things like ‘I have no use for 4K, won’t be buying’.... why are you acting like that’s the only new thing? Somehow everything’s the same but they’ve upgraded the HDMI port? It’s like refusing Mac mini because it can output at a higher resolution than your monitor.

I hope it has a power button! I love the fact that I can control my volume on my external reciever, but it would be nice to be able to turn off the tv and the amp from one remote too.

I think this is one instance where the customer would prefer an apple product that is not thin. Ours is constantly falling in between couch cushions.

Just watch, we're gonna get hosed.

$199 for 32GB 4k Version
$249 for 64GB 4k Version

Prices will likely be the same as the current ATV4 (with the ATV4 getting a price cut). I think the bigger question is whether they'll offer a 128GB version or not.

Why is it called a "Siri Remote"? It's a remote that has a microphone on it. Nothing to do with Siri happens on/in the remote. They could just have easily added the microphone to the ATV itself.

I like what I am seeing about the new 4k apple tv. One thing I reallly wish for is a gigabit ethernet.. But I have feeling it will not have it.. :( hate wireless for these sort of things and would love to be able to wire apple tv via gigabit..

I hope Apple doesn't think haptic feedback will solve the symmetry problem, because it won't.

I like my Apple TV but the remote is easily the worst thing about it and the ultimate example of something Steve would hate if he were still with us. It's such a poor design, incredibly unintuitive. Let's hope they got it right with the new one.

It's bad but it's far from the worst input device Apple designed. That probably goes to the hockey puck mouse.

The Guilherme Rambo Workflow:

1. Find a bunch firmware information.

2. Release one piece of information.

3. Wait for interest to die down.

4. Goto 2.

I think you underestimate the amount of strings there are to go through. There's a lot of trudging through lots of boring stuff before you get to interesting bits.

Anyway, there's not much longer til the keynote, so not much point in doing that.

Because it's the interface you use to invoke Siri.

I use my Apple TV and the DirecTV Now app and I hate the current remote. If I'm watching something and need to pick up the remote to move it (sometimes sitting on the couch next to me and making room for my wife) or to adjust the volume too many times my finger lightly brushes the touch area and the channel changes. Having a dedicated "previous" or "last channel" button to flip quickly between 2 channels is something that is missing too. Hopefully if they have a redesigned remote it addresses these two issues.

That's mostly the fault of the DirecTV Now app, it's really horrible. The other apps I use on Apple TV work very well with the remote. I see the scrub bar pop up sometimes when I pick up the remote and brush the touch bar but I never have any adverse affect on what I'm watching.

What would be the point? The AppleTV's new CPU is only useful as far as viewing 4K content goes. Somehow I don't think there are going to be amazing AppleTV apps that take advantage of it.

The only other way it could (should) be improved is the remote, but that doesn't (or shouldn't) require a new AppleTV

I gave up with Apple TV. The only Apple product I hate, it's pathetic and the apps suck on it. I use Nvidia Shield and it is LOADS better.
I use a Shield for its Plex Server capabilities, but still use Apple TV's for Plex Client. There are some pretty nice apps and games for it.

We have a lot of Apple TV's and I'm very happy with them. Except for the remotes which are very prone to scatter in pieces after a simple drop on the floor. Fixed that with rubber remote casings and since - fingers crossed - there hasn't been a broken one since.

My guess is that it the taptic engine will also ditch the physical selection button.

I like the remote app on my phone and now with iOS 11 on my iPad Pro I love the Apple TV control center widget. To bad it doesn’t have a Taptic Engine.

Wow, only two pages into comments and overwhelming hate for the remote. I must be the only person who likes it. I liked the Gen 3 remote better but to support the touch pad items it had to expand slightly. I think they've struck the right balance, I like the small remote, I like the minimalist approach, other than a junk app design (I'm looking at your DirecTV Now) I'm very happy with how this remote works and prefer it greatly to all the other stock remotes my devices have and the universal options I've experienced. I must be in a small minority though if the comments are representative.

The A10X is an SoC, which means it also has a GPU built into it. Any app that makes use of 3D graphics can benefit, regardless of whether it's a game or not.

You have to understand, some people are trolls, some people are stupid and can't figure out a simple remote and some people are more interested in complaining than figuring out that you can use any remote you want.

Again, I don't see the AppleTV App store taking off to a point where buying the new AppleTV would be worth it unless you had a 4K TV.

It doesn't matter if you can use any remote you want. The remote is $79 by itself; you're paying for it whether you want it or not, and a remote in a $129 box should not be as terrible as it is.

Not even close. Have you used a modern DVR remote?
[doublepost=1505153366][/doublepost]

That's a shame. No one should ever feel this way towards any mega corporation.

Why? For making slick products that I really want instead of shoveltech I couldn't give a toss about? How bizarre.

Has there been any rumors about how many HDMI ports this will have? Many/most of the 4K blu-ray players have one HDMI just for an audio out for those of us that don't have 4K pass through receivers....the other HDMI going to the 4K display.

If this only has one, I guess I'll need to upgrade receivers sooner than I'd like, as Dolby TrueHD/DTS Master HD won't pass through a TV's optical out cable.

YOU CANNOT RESTORE APPLE TV FROM CLOUD!

If I upgrade to this new Apple TV, Apple in its infinite wisdom does not allow iCloud backup for Apple TV. That means all apps and settings must be RE-DOWNLOADED and RE-INPUT from scratch. What a PITA! Apple are idiots lately.

Or you can use any remote you want but i guess it is easier to complain

It is good, what is even more ridiculous is that people come here to complain about something that they don't need to use.

I am assuming you are referring to the remote learning feature, which is a really kick as feature on the ATV 2, 3, and 4. I use IR remotes with all my ATVs that I still use.

The IR remotes work perfectly with the ATV2 and 3, but it is limited on the ATV4. The Siri remote is still needed at time.

For example, some apps do not support IR remotes, or that have limited support. Also, there is no home/TV button for the remote learning, which is totally stupid. This means that you cannot close apps if you need to.

That said, IR remotes are used by my whole family, and I am the only one that uses the Siri remote. Well, my kids would use the Siri remote, but I don't allow them to. They kept on losing it in the couch.

I can use the Apple remote or the app. Kinda missing what other remote you're speaking to in your post.

I think IR remotes is what is being referenced.
