Is the color gamut the same as the iPad Air 2?

Also, will we now see a price cut on the iPad Air 2 from third party retailers?

Best buy cut their price by $100 on Air 2 I believe. All of the 32GB models were checked out a few minutes ago when I looked. Most other retailers have been out of stock on the Air 2 for a while now.

I'd go for it! I almost pulled the trigger for my grandparents, but I decided to hold off because I was wanting to give them this one once the new iPad Pro 2 comes out. Seems like a waste of a device. The new iPad should be a decent amount faster, but my Air 2 is also free and in perfect condition, lol. Their 4th gen gets them by but my grandma did put a crack through the screen, then had it repaired somewhere without telling me and that place really jacked up the home button, which makes it sunken in and harder to press. The main thing that made me back out was learning that the new one is a little thicker like the original Air, so I couldn't just give them one of my nice protective cases, so I'd have to spend some money on a really protective case since they're prone to dropping it. I just wish Apple would come out with the new Pro. I'm really hoping for WWDC, and maybe they could show off some of the new features coming in iOS 11 that will make it even more professional, but Apple hasn't announced much hardware then lately.

Most iPad Air 2 cases say they will fit the iPad Air 1 also, so I'm thinking they should fit the new iPad as well.

Wow, you're right. Looks like they're completely sold out of the 32GB model. I was thinking of getting a used 12" MacBook for some upcoming travel but the low cost iPad may be the better way to go now.

I can't decide, iPad Air 2 for $299, or iPad for $329 with a $25 gift card (both at Best Buy right now).

It's for my wife's grandmother. I'm not sure the weight or screen differences would even be noticeable to her. Right now she is borrowing my 4th gen iPad to see how she likes having one, and if she will use it.

Grandma's not going to know the difference between the A8X and A9, so buy the iPad Air 2 before they run out and use the $10 to reward yourself for being a good grandson-in-law. ;)

I noticed something odd today when I tried to order an iPad Pro- none of the Verizon stores in a 50 mile radius have any Pros in stock. Hmm

I have to wonder how much the retailers pay attention to rumors vs. what they actually know. If I was a buyer for a large company, I'd be hesitant to load up if an event seemed imminent. And this one seemed super imminent before evaporating. The whole thing was really weird. Anyway, IDK how it works—like if they can send some stock back or get some kind of reimbursement from Apple for clearing old stock at a lower price. Would be interesting to hear how it works from anyone in the forums who might know? Either way I'm really hoping that we can get new iPad Pros soon—or at the very least a new iMac.

got my order in

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And here are my top 3 reasons why:

1) Apple doesn't do anything with the larger screen. It's a big iphone.
2) No Apple Pencil support.
3) Lack of reason to upgrade. Old generation ipads still functional to browse the web and watch videos.

1) Yes they do. You might have gotten away with that reasoning a couple years ago, but not anymore.
2) The vast majority of people don't need the Pencil, and excluding support partly explains the $270 cost savings vs. the Pro.
3) So if my '07 MBP still functions to browse the web and watch videos, you don't think there's any reason to upgrade? WTH?

Agreed. At this price point, it will attract those who wanted an iPad, perhaps who couldn't afford or appreciate the features on the Pro line. And it gives The user the opportunity to be drawn into the ecosystem of Apple and further invest in other products if they so choose.

Excellent point about the reduced costs for the display, if it becomes damaged.

I got a couple i32G Pad Air 2s around black Friday for $272 at Target. $299 is a steal while supplies last.

I never had an iPad, so I'm toying around with the possibility of picking up a 32GB model. It's not something I need (I'm not really a tablet guy), but it'd be a good replacement for the old Kindle that was a hand-me-down from my wife.

Kindle offers a way more superior reading experience. You can take your Kindle to the Apple Store, open something up in iBooks on a demo iPad and look at them side by side. Modern Kindle screens have no glare, so happier eyes. If you are mostly into reading, Kindle is great.

For a bit, til its smudged up from regular use or cracked from its first drop.
Otherwise, if you get a case ... so much for all that 'beauty'

Just dont get the whole fixation on phone color. Do you know how
many people besides you give a crap what color your phone is, beside you? hint: absolutely no one.

But as the only consumer of the device isn't his, my, or your opinion of what we carry all that really matters? So what if somebody else has a preference for a certain color? The individual buying the phone gets to have that choice.

Also, there are a lot of people who don't encase their device. Not everybody drops their phone or needs to have it fully enclosed for protection. I am still using a 4s and a 6 that are in very good condition despite never being covered. Some people value design, when form meets desires without trading function then we'll buy and don't always need to cover the form with something else.

Kindle is, indeed, a great device, especially at its price point. Unfortunately, it's tightly locked into the Amazon ecosystem and runs on a heavily forked version of Android, which restricts overall user experience. Of course, no one ever accused Apple of being unrestrictive!

My only upgrade was a sapphire leather case for my matte black iPhone 7 which is still my phone of choice. :)

Why would you ask somebody to tell you why you should upgrade? Only you can make that decision. But there's more than enough reasons to upgrade for the generation you're using compared to where the iPad is now. It's rather you agree with the reasons it or not.

You don't have to use every single feature the iPad offers to necessarily "Get your money's worth.". That iPad will suit everybody differently and everybody will use it for their personal task sor work related needs.

Stop trying to degrade the iPad for what it is and making it seem like it's an antiquated device on this thread. I don't believe you're influencing anyone, Other than yourself.

Just come back from my local store (they replaced 2x frayed Lightning cables for free) and my opinion of the red iphone is Meh. Seems to be only a decent red at some extreme angles. Most of the time it looked like a dull burgundy/berry colour.

EggPlant, you make it very difficult to take your posts seriously. Like others have said, you're on these threads spreading bittererness about Apple and all their products. You're not fooling anyone pretending like you actually want to upgrade, when I personally don't believe you want to. And if you're looking for personal advice on upgrading, there've been plenty of excellent posts on this thread about why somebody would consider the differences between the different models of the iPads to upgrade.

Also, You can reference the iPad forum for a plethora of useful information on their as well from experienced forum members.

If there was anybody being insensitive on a topic regarding anything Apple related, it would be you. You Don't have to like or appreciate every Apple product, but You consistently berate ALL their products.

Really? The Air 2 is thinner and has no mute toggle switch, so I'd not want to believe that about cases being interchangeable.

Relentless.. Apple has been going through a downward spiral. My dissatisfaction is echoed with many many users on this forum. From macbooks, to ipads, to watchbands, etc. I speak for many apple fans.

So i ask you to sincerely tell me a compelling reason why i need to upgrade my "new" ipad 3rd gen?

Honestly, it is up to you to find a compelling reason to upgrade. If you are happy with the performance and capabilities with your current iPad, keep it and save your money. For many people, there is dissatisfaction with their current iPad. I have a 32GB original iPad. It runs iOS5.1.1 and cannot be upgraded. Does it still work? Yes. I can read books and do simple surfing of the web and can watch movies on Netflix. But it is heavy and slow. Do I "have" to get a new one? Nope. But I am currently dissatisfied with it.
If you are dissatisfied with your current iPad, many have pointed out good reasons to upgrade; whether those reasons are material is up to you.

I am wasting my time here, but...

Significantly thinner and lighter
Brighter screen with oleophobic coating
Newer processor by four generations (about 8X faster)
Twice the RAM
Embedded motion coprocessor
Much-improved cameras
Touch ID for better convenience and security (and Apple Pay)
ac MIMO WiFi (much faster with better range)
Battery life surely much better than a 5 year-old model
Stereo speakers
Lightning connector instead of technologically-ancient 30-pin

etc.

Glad I found my Sealed 9.7" iPad Pro for $460 a couple weeks ago.

I think this Budget model is geared towards the Education Market.
It really is a great price point. Only time will tell if Apple cut corners enough to make it a low quality product.

i like more batteries yes - very unlike apple iphone
stereo? a few inches apart really make a difference?
hmm - my lighting cables break more than the ancient 30 pin.
