They do have such a program. Applies to macs and macbooks too. Not sure about airpods.

Edit - no, it does not apply to airpods. Just about everything else though.
I recently used it to recycle an old imac that didn't work anymore. They aren't going to give you a credit for an old broken computer but they did provide a free shipping label to send it off to get recycled so I was happy about that.

How did u confirm that AirPods won't apply to this program? Not doubting u just curious

I’m a little disappointed with this release. I was hoping for a black color and some major sound improvements. They’ll obviously sound better, but I’m thinking it won’t be anything dramatic since Apple didn’t highlight it as a feature. That said, there is something about AirPods that make it one of my favorite Apple products. Really well made, great battery life (for my use, gym or run daily), sound good enough for their size and weight, and the touch controls are really convenient. Their simplicity kind of makes them. They cost a lot, but I’m happy to upgrade and give my old pair to a friend or family member. I’m kind of surprised seeing complaints about costs so often in this forum though. Apple products have always been expensive. If cost is a big factor for you, then it’s great there are plenty of other solid options out there.

I very much doubt they have a W1 chip as that's apple only. But there have been a ton of clones out there for a long time now. They don't have all the features though. Close, but not all.
This model actually prompts the airpod animation to pop up on the iphone. I can't really confirm it's the exact W1 chip but it looks like it's catching up if not surpassing the OG airpods in functionality. They already look identical from the outside. The case is compatible with airpod accessories and uses a lightning cable to charge.

Pretty disappointing. It seems all Apple can do most of the time anymore is slight upgrades and even then they tend to be delayed. Makes me wonder what all those many people do all day in that spaceship campus. Certainly not hitting it out of the ballpark anymore that’s for sure.

The airpods 2 release should have came when the next iPhones with actual reverse charging were being released. Also, the airpods should have featured water resistance, customizable EQ settings, noise cancellation, a black color choice, much improved sound quality, and a much better design. APPLE can do better than this. These silly product launches have not been amazing at all. The boredom from Apple and the lack of excitement keeps increasing.

Hello H1 chip, the renamed W1.....lol

Imagine waiting this long for the rumored upgrades just for these to be announced :D I’ll wait until they add sweat resistance, true longer battery life, black finish, and more gesture controls on the body to upgrade. Charging case seems neat, but isn’t necessary until iPhones can charge the case ala galaxy buds imo.

No space gray option :(

$79 for the wireless charging case. Yikes.

Normally I’d balk at the separated price yet:

Wireless case plus iPods are only $40+ increase from generation 1.
> best to sell or gift gen 1 you have and do a full upgrade.

Competition: only Samsung has true wireless with Qi charging case for cheaper with as good or close quality for music and calls. Everyone else (B&O, Sennheiser, etc) or over $299 US and you can’t ONLY pull the Left unit out of your ear to continue music or call playback because those others STILL follow the Master + Slave principle for Bluetooth headphones.

So this is a VERY good deal. But still in white?! Ridiculous.

Back in the day it was considered normal to upgrade your products every year without raising the price. Nowadays it seems every upgrade somehow has to cost more, what happened to providing a good product that people will buy?
Except that Apple has released multiple upgraded products within the last few days, including the Airpods, without raising their prices. So, not every upgrade costs more. You're literally just being dishonest so you can bash Apple.

Wireless charging case should be standard not an extra cost

One quick question:

Why? Why on earth should Apple feel obligated to release improved versions of products with new features but not charge more for those improvements? Where did that entitlement come from in consumers?

Do you think wireless charging costs nothing to add? Or do you think Apple should just be forced to eat the implementation costs because we would like that better? Don't blame a company for being a company. They've already offered updated features with no price bump. An optional $40 increase is already quite low by Apple's normal standards and is worth it to most of those who want wireless charging anyway.

Complaining that Apple isn't offering you more free stuff is, to be frank, childish and entitled.

1) I wish I would have posted my prediction yesterday: new iPod released Wednesday was actually a mistake for new AirPods released Wednesday. (AirPod mistaken for iPod). No new iPod touch this week (ever?).

2) This is exactly the update anyone who follows Apple should have expected. Only firm rumors were the wireless case dating back to the AirPower announcement and “hey Siri” functionality from the iPhone event video. I purchased immediately to replace my tired 2+ year old gen 1s. They have easily been my favorite Apple purchase since my first iPhone. Daily use. Battery degradation with that usage and physics is completely acceptable to me.

The tech improvements are good, but basically nothing is said about audio quality. This wasn’t a strong point of the original product, so I had expected to hear that the listening experience had gotten some attention in round 2.

Looking forward to a new set (ordered early this morning). My originals are tattered and worn, but my teenager has gladly accepted them. Best gadget since the cell phone.. Sorry smartwatch fans.

If I wanted sound quality I’d have something else and do. But that something else doesn’t fit in pocket. Or is so convenient to use.

There’s only so much they can do here with battery life. I think Apple is right to push the features that they have.

You could always give them to a family member lol. Niece possibly a nephew

I generally do that with my older Apple devices but the AirPods are a bit different in my opinion because they are in your ear headsets. I would personally not purchase or accept used headsets of any type. I would think other people would feel the same but now that I see posts of other people passing them along to grateful family members I’ll definitely give it a shot.

Just tried it out of curiosity and I got: 'Getting directions to Starbucks'
And I'm not a native speaker..

I know it's all funny and an easy laugh, but it's also misleading because it's simply not true.
Good to know you were able to get those little buds to give you an accurate answer. I run about 50% on my iPhone XS iPad Watch4 and Macbook. How did you get an advance set of buds for this test?

I ordered mine this morning and it says "Preparing to Ship"

It's now the evening. My account info on apple.com has my order number, payment method, and correct address. Everything looks fine... but it still says "processing"

I used ApplePay on my iPhone to order these AirPods. Weirdly... the Wallet app on my phone lists $0.00 as the purchase price.

Could something have happened with my ApplePay?

ApplePay works fine though. I use it multiple times a day in physical stores. So there shouldn't be a problem with my debit card.

I guess I'll wait longer.

TBH I think they should have released only the wireless case version but at a $20 increase in price instead of $40 and nixed the lightning only option.

I just noticed in the website that they claimed the pre-production of 2gen Airpods was just a month ago. It's weird considering we only get a minor upgrade during the two year gap. Make me wonder if the rumoured health-monitoring functions faced some problems so they had to push it back?

Ridiculous to not just include the charging case for 159. Too many choices - consumer confusion and frustration.
The charging case is included for $159.

But since when does two qualify as “too many choices”? Consumer confusion and frustration? You can’t be serious. Are you posting from some kind of script or something?

$159 with the wired case, $199 for the wireless. A real head scratcher, right?

How do people choose what to have for breakfast in the morning? Which clothes to put on? What to watch on Netflix? Which restaurant to go to? Which way to turn at an intersection... left? right? straight ahead?

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!... too many choices... can’t decide... maybe I’ll just put it in reverse and back up... nope there’s a car behind me... brain exploding... WHERE’S MY SAFE SPACE!!!!????... why is there smoke coming out of my ears? YIKES, I guess I’ll just turn off the engine and order door dash... I’m sure they deliver to Central and Elm.
