Except that Apple has released multiple upgraded products within the last few days, including the Airpods, without raising their prices. So, not every upgrade costs more. You're literally just being dishonest so you can bash Apple.
[doublepost=1553128572][/doublepost]

One quick question:

Why? Why on earth should Apple feel obligated to release improved versions of products with new features but not charge more for those improvements? Where did that entitlement come from in consumers?

Do you think wireless charging costs nothing to add? Or do you think Apple should just be forced to eat the implementation costs because we would like that better? Don't blame a company for being a company. They've already offered updated features with no price bump. An optional $40 increase is already quite low by Apple's normal standards and is worth it to most of those who want wireless charging anyway.

Complaining that Apple isn't offering you more free stuff is, to be frank, childish and entitled.
You really think these updated air pods are going to be really any real improvement than the first gen air pods? They have renamed the W1 chip to make it sound better

It has better talk time and a bit better battery life but that was never an issue anyway.

From all reports sound is about the same. There are no extra features that you can customise so what you can change is the same as the previous version and no new colours either

If people's air pods are breaking down and sound isn't good or battery has got worse I completely see why people would get this and upgrade but if they work fine then this seems a rather pointless upgrade from first gen. Maybe what rumours say that a brand new improved version is coming next year

If Samsung can make their Buds with wireless charging as standard so should apple seeing as there are said to be better sound. More features and an assistant you use on it that's not stupid

You think this chip is going to be any different to the W1? These are headphones at the end of the day. Just apples great marketing make it sound better

The H1 is clearly different. It’s lower power, enabling 50 percent higher battery life. It has higher computer power, enabling “hey Siri” support. It has 30 percent lower latency. It switches between devices in half the time. These are all real world noticeable improvements.

So, instead of addressing my points, your argument is now just "they didn't really change anything"? 2nd Gen is not a completely different product. It is, however, an improvement on the first in practically every way. You can't just say they didn't change anything when they did.

Also, while Siri isn't as good as Google Assistant, Bixby is far worse.

I mentioned it before I think in another thread, but this updated version of the AirPods is more of an ‘S model’ incremental update. I think Apple has bigger things coming for the AirPods, and likely that technology isn’t refined or mature enough to introduce them quite yet.

At minimum, I think it still would’ve been somewhat more relevant for the second version that AirPods launched yesterday, if they would have included a secondary color option, maybe even some type of water resistance rating, those two features alone would be compelling enough for consumers to see the improvements. The wireless charging case option is nice, but only to the advantage for those who actually want that feature.

Of course it's an improvement but a very mild one my point is there is zero reason to upgrade if your first gen air pods work fine

Google assistant works on the Buds and as bad as bixby is it's still just as useful as siri

Hey siri would be useful on the air pods if siri was useful

Do tell. Let's look at the two companies.

Revenues for 2018
Apple - $261B
Samsung - $215B

Number of employees
Appe - 132000
Samsung - 320000

Now, please, define "tiny"

Most people will buy new AirPods because the old ones are dying.

revenue vs employees yea...samsung is doing "great"

market cap....

how much is samsung taking home of that 215B paying 3 times more employee's ?

lets look at what they take home....not the NET...find those numbers for me

Market Cap :

Apple : 750 B
Samsung : 250B

yea....samsung is tiny.....and inefficient.....

Good to know you were able to get those little buds to give you an accurate answer. I run about 50% on my iPhone XS iPad Watch4 and Macbook. How did you get an advance set of buds for this test?

The first generation of AirPods support Siri as well if you press the home button. Tried it several times and it worked flawlessly.

Very impressive if accurate. Stuff like this gets overlooked all the time, but it shows that Apple are still innovating in many ways. I wasn't so impressed by this release (on paper), but I need to give them a try first.

I agree that certain technical specifications get overlooked, but you have to ask yourself a logical question, does the average consumer care about some of those technical specifications that was listed in that Twitter link? I don’t think they do. (Nor do they understand most of it.)

I mean the extra 50% talk time with the battery is great and the H1 Chip, but these improvements really don’t stand out to me to the average consumer would care about something like that. Things that flourish the popularity of a product, are things that consumers generally understand, like the (new wireless charging option case, additional colors, added water resistance, even noise cancellation). Now, I gather those features are likely coming in the future, but those are the things that sell a product and show the improvement, I’m not necessarily saying the AirPods needed to change dramatically, but if anything, I would say some of the core specifications could’ve been updated/introduced I mentioned, but unfortunately were not.

I would agree, most consumers don't think about or care about such things. I think that has always been Apple though. Not really about specs, just a really solid product/experience. Reading through that thread, one guy said "the audio quality and latency has really improved" which hopefully means much better sound. Pretty much the main thing I was looking for (aside from a black color). Yup, some of those features should have been considered for this version, but apparently it won't hurt sales in any way. I was a little disappointed with the release myself, but I want to actually give the product go before making my assessment.

Can we charge this using the iphone x/ xs max?

Nope, that feature is being introduced in 2019 phones across the industry. Apple releases their phones in the Fall, so we will have it then.

Apple AirPods H1 chip (SOCs) has the processing power of an iPhone 4—in each ear!
Class 1 Bluetooth 5.
H1 die size is ~12mm2.
Parts: H1 Cypress SoC
Maxim audio codec
Bosch BMA280 accelerometer
STM 3 axis accelerometer
STM regulator
TI data converter
Goertek MEMs microphones
The beamforming microphones in AirPods-2019 are far more optimized for Siri. There is better sensitivity with the MEMS and a generation ahead in how beamforming will work. I also suspect that LiveListen functionality will be greatly improved by this, as well as other uses!
Great find! I'm curious how it compares to the 1st gen?

Not yet, but apple has already patented this and I expected we'll see it on new phones in the fall.
