What the article misses and no one has yet to point out is that we can now finally LOCK our AirPods Pro with Lost Mode and send a phone number message
This is how I lost my launch day Gen 1 AirPods. The sound doesn’t play if the headphones are inside the case, but if the case could amplify sound or have AirTags support, then others wouldn’t have this issue. This or have the same within 30 feet tracking that the Airtags have. I would really love to see that in the Airpods 3 that are hopefully out this month. I would def pay an extra $30-40 for a case that does one of both of these things.

I dont think so.. Its seems to be really no better than what it was, a gimmick.. You seem to have to be connected via BT for anything to function. If you are out of BT range, or turn BT off, the Airpods wont make a sound, or show up.. They dont seem to use the Find My network at all. Maybe Im missing something, or they are buggy.. But there is no way I am relying on this version of "findmy". I will keep an Airtag on it.So with this firmware I can take my Airbag off my AirPods Pro and FindMy will still work as if I had an AirTag attached?
It's possible to hear the beep from a different floor, if there's no sound proof and it's quiet.Interesting, it’s not supposed to work that way. How are you hearing a beep from a different floor?

The Air Pods Pro inside a case is the opposite of "super loud"It's possible to hear the beep from a different floor, if there's no sound proof and it's quiet.
It uses the speaker to play a super loud beep so you can hear it without wearing it. It could also bring deaf to someone when he/she's placing it near his/her ears while you are doing so.
Ah, I only tested on AirPods Max so not sure about the Pro. Stop using the Pros a while ago as its in ear ANC seems to result in otitis externa for me for some unknown reason. It never happen when using in ear headphones of other brands. The Air Pods Pro inside a case is the opposite of "super loud"
It doesn't. It's just the same rain dance-like ritual of opening and closing the case within close range to an iOS device and plugging and unplugging the AirPods from your charging cable.Think it must require iOS 15.1 as not showing here.

You mean unpairing and re-pairing it to your iPhone?I got it fixed by resetting the Connection.
Definitely me being a doofus!Come on all - it's a forum I don't think we need to be policing anyone's grammar on here, its juvenile and so boorish.
It does work when they’re in the case with this update. I’ve been able to see the location updating in real-time all day today.Absolutely pointless if you lose them when they're in their case because they stop communicating when they are.
Any time I've lost or misplaced mine they've been in their case. All the Find My tells me is where they were when they were last out of the case. One time, it took nearly a month to find them (they'd somehow fallen into a bag I rarely use).
Same thing happened to my daughter - and for her they turned out to be in a pocket in bag she uses all the time. But all Find My told her was when it had last seen them out of the case.
With no way to track the case or make it play a sound, tracking is useless most of the time. Ironically, I could buy an Apple tracker and attach it to the case. 🤦♂️
It’s pretty good. Not AS good as AirTags, but a really worthy addition.Yes but not as precise as it does not have a U1 chip.
How do I force my AirPods to upgrade? I had them connected to power while on Wi-Fi for two hours and didn’t update. Restart iPhone?I believe the update is for the 2nd gen too but the Find My feature is limited to the Pro and Max
And that is the whole point of this update to add that.Absolutely pointless if you lose them when they're in their case because they stop communicating when they are.
