This or have the same within 30 feet tracking that the Airtags have. I would really love to see that in the Airpods 3 that are hopefully out this month. I would def pay an extra $30-40 for a case that does one of both of these things.
This is how I lost my launch day Gen 1 AirPods. The sound doesn’t play if the headphones are inside the case, but if the case could amplify sound or have AirTags support, then others wouldn’t have this issue.

I can connect, locate and beep the Airpod Pros inside a closed case. Even from a different floor.
Interesting, it’s not supposed to work that way. How are you hearing a beep from a different floor?

Updated, but FindMy hasn't. The new findmy features aren't available..Rebooted etc.. This experience is getting more and more common with Apple updates that's for sure.. I guess I will have to wait for another point release??

I placed my closed AirPod Case with AirPods inside them on the lower floor and used "Play Sound." Inside the case it makes a sound and my device gives a notification that a sound was played on AirPod Pro - right
iPhone 8 plus, updated airpod pros, iOS 15.1 beta

This was mentioned at the Apple WWDC event,

"With iOS 15, you can locate your AirPods Pro and AirPods Max using the Find My network. Your AirPods simply send out a secure Bluetooth beacon that can be detected by other Apple devices. They can relay your AirPods' location to the network and then back to your Find My app. And if they're nearby, just choose Play Sound. Listen for the chirp, whether they're in their case or out."

So with this firmware I can take my Airbag off my AirPods Pro and FindMy will still work as if I had an AirTag attached?
I dont think so.. Its seems to be really no better than what it was, a gimmick.. You seem to have to be connected via BT for anything to function. If you are out of BT range, or turn BT off, the Airpods wont make a sound, or show up.. They dont seem to use the Find My network at all. Maybe Im missing something, or they are buggy.. But there is no way I am relying on this version of "findmy". I will keep an Airtag on it.

Still shows this old FW version. (3E751)
It's cool, I'll wait I was thinking about getting one of these and another AirTag..but good, no need now.

It's possible to hear the beep from a different floor, if there's no sound proof and it's quiet.

It uses the speaker to play a super loud beep so you can hear it without wearing it. It could also bring deaf to someone when he/she's placing it near his/her ears while you are doing so.

For AirPods Max it's super easy to upgrade. Just take it off the case, plug in the charger and have it connects to your iPhone (make sure you have the latest iOS). Wait for an hour and check back.

The Air Pods Pro inside a case is the opposite of "super loud"

I can definitively hear the sound quality is now inferior on my Air Pods Pro. The frequencies have changed. They have a less punchy sound... Anyone else felt the same?
Edit: my bad.. for some reason the update put them on Transparency Mode by default, much better with Noise Cancelling on 😅

Ah, I only tested on AirPods Max so not sure about the Pro. Stop using the Pros a while ago as its in ear ANC seems to result in otitis externa for me for some unknown reason. It never happen when using in ear headphones of other brands.

Think it must require iOS 15.1 as not showing here.
It doesn't. It's just the same rain dance-like ritual of opening and closing the case within close range to an iOS device and plugging and unplugging the AirPods from your charging cable.

I understand there may be hardware requirements that prevent location direction via bluetooth. But come on. Play a frickin chime when they’re in the case.

Absolutely pointless if you lose them when they're in their case because they stop communicating when they are.

Any time I've lost or misplaced mine they've been in their case. All the Find My tells me is where they were when they were last out of the case. One time, it took nearly a month to find them (they'd somehow fallen into a bag I rarely use).

Same thing happened to my daughter - and for her they turned out to be in a pocket in bag she uses all the time. But all Find My told her was when it had last seen them out of the case.

With no way to track the case or make it play a sound, tracking is useless most of the time. Ironically, I could buy an Apple tracker and attach it to the case. 🤦‍♂️

Come on all - it's a forum I don't think we need to be policing anyone's grammar on here, its juvenile and so boorish.
Definitely me being a doofus!
That naming convention is a hangover from my daughter constantly stealing them and changing the name to her own - realised only after I’d posted!
Renamed them “Stephen’s AirPods Pro” but not entirely sure that’s correct 😂
Great shout though @gussic, focus on enjoying the update, not my grammar!

It does work when they’re in the case with this update. I’ve been able to see the location updating in real-time all day today.

Yes but not as precise as it does not have a U1 chip.
It’s pretty good. Not AS good as AirTags, but a really worthy addition.
Presumably the functionality could have been there all along,… (Hardware wise it was baked in)

Odd of Apple to add it to the APP 2 years after their October ‘19 release.

I’m not complaining tho.

I believe the update is for the 2nd gen too but the Find My feature is limited to the Pro and Max
How do I force my AirPods to upgrade? I had them connected to power while on Wi-Fi for two hours and didn’t update. Restart iPhone?

And that is the whole point of this update to add that.

Another poster topdownjimmy posted this and it worked for me.
At first I couldn’t get it to work only by opening the case it would then find them, but obviously what’s the point of that.
As another poster advised, shut down the phone twice and tried it and at last it found them, but had the wee swirling dots for about 30 seconds just about to give up when it found them lying 3 feet away:rolleyes:

Nice feature, but has this update changed the sound quality of AirPad Pros for phone calls?

For me (and also other people I know) it is nearly impossible to have calls on the go, as the slightest noise makes it impossible to hear what I’m saying for the person I’m calling.
*Only* in my house without any background noise I can use them to call people.
